Calvary Chapel Mountain View

I have lived in Silicon Valley for some 10 years and been somewhat discouraged by the churches I attended as the churches I attended when I first came to Silicon Valley seem to be more into the business and the look at me mentality. My opinion of Silicon Valley churches has changed since attending the Thursday night bible study service– the people are true disciples– they are down to earth– they accept you not regarding the clothes you wear, what you do or where you live. It is so wonderful to walk into a place where there is no need to play a role to fit in or be something you are not. «Come AS YOU ARE all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.» Is what comes to my mind when I think of this church and what it made me feel the moment i entered its doors.

I found CCMV in September 2004, the same month I came to the Lord, via a radio broadcast on KFAX radio of Senior Pastor Rick Franks. I had been searching for a Bible-​based church for about a year and typically listen to KFAX. As I was driving the long drive home from work that evening, I heard and was captivated by what I was hearing. Just what I was looking for, I thought. So I made mental note of the church name and location. Once I arrived home, I looked CCMV up on the internet and made plans to attend that coming Sunday. The website directions were written prior to work being done on HWY 101, so the off ramp given wasn’t displayed on the signs. I drove up to RWC, back down to Mountain View countless times. Finally I took the last exit (Ellis) and drove down Middlefield Road until I found Sierra Vista and eventually the church. Dreading to walk into anywhere later, I found that I was actually early. I was greeted and welcomed at the door, handed a program, and chatted with people prior to the beginning of worship. Worship was so moving and spirit-​filled, I somehow knew I was home. I was baptized the following September by Pastor Rick. This has been my home every since and I thank God for leading me here.

We read, study and learn how to apply the teachings of the Holy Bible (NKJV)…book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse. We have heartfelt worship, encouraging prayer, a wonderful head pastor and his dedicated team of pastors & elders who truly tend, feed and love the church body!
I love CCMV. I’ve since moved to San Jose but continue to go back up to Mountain View because that’s how much I truly love and feel loved and spiritually nurtured in this church body.
Briefly, this is the first church I have ever actively attended. Now, don’t misunderstand, I’ve been to churches: Catholic, baptist, pentecostal etc… and that was prior to surrendering my life to Jesus Christ.
But on that fateful Sunday more than 2 years ago, when I walked into this church in my penguin pajamas & bedhead: angry at the world, looking to pick a fight, weary & lost and not trusting anyone, especially not Christians…
Not one dirty look came my way, but instead hugs and welcoming smiles and faces … and the prophetic Word of God coming through Pastor Rick Franks to pierce my heart and bring me to salvation.
CCMV is all about the Gospel. Come here if you want to learn more about who Jesus is, how to have a personal relationship with Him, and get a solid bible-​teaching jump start on your new faith. Jesus loves you!

CCMV is a non-​denominational Christian Church located in Mountain View but church members seem to come from far and wide to attend Sunday morning and Thursday evening services there. They also have various weekly activities held at the church office or in people’s homes.
The services are held in a Seventh Day Adventist Church building, which can be confusing to newcomers but there is no connection to the SDA church aside from renting space there.
Pastor Rick Franks is the Senior Pastor and his sermons are excellent. He reads and teaches the Bible by going through one book of the Bible at a time, verse-​by-​verse.
Pastor Rick along with the associate pastors, the youth pastor, and the elders all demonstrate a Spirit-​led dedication to serving the congregation.
The congregation is very friendly and once you become a regular, they are like a big family. We meet after service each week for coffee and snacks and fellowship, and there is a monthly agape feast (a potluck lunch) which is also a fun way to get to know eachother better.
I began attending in 2005 and have found CCMV to be a great place to worship and learn to study the scriptures and implement God’s teachings in everyday life.
Don’t be shy to visit if you are new to the area or come from a different religious background. I came from a Catholic background and although Calvary Chapel is very different, I felt welcomed from the first day. More importantly, I have learned more about the Bible and feel closer to Jesus in my daily life than ever before.

I’ll admit it up front — this review is very biased. It’s my home church, and it took a while to find one! I started here in 2003. It is an expositional Bible teaching, evangelical, fundamentalist church. If you are reading this far bear with it for a few more sentences, and following is an explanation if what this means. What you will find in our church are genuinely nice people who have a love for God and a Heart for others. You will hear the Word of God taught straight out of the Bible, and be drawn in by worship music like no other! Now what is all of that other stuff?
Expositional Bible teaching means you read the Bible, study the context and the original language then «expose» how it applies in one’s life. We don’t teach how to make a million dollars using biblical principles.
Evangelical means we take Jesus’ commandment to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28) seriously. We evangelize meaning we promote and verbalize the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It does NOT mean we try to convert you to Christianity (as defined in Webster’s dictionary). That’s God’s job.
Fundamentalist is NOT a dirty word. It has become in some circles equivalent to being a terrorist. The Christian fundamentalist movement actually began in the early 1900’s. A group of pastors formed a convention to confirm the fundamentals of the historic Christian faith. The church was being influenced by very liberal teachings that were not in line with what the Apostles taught (most of the New Testament). So regardless of what Rosie O’Donnell may say a Christian fundamentalist is not the same as a radical religious terrorist.
We meet Sunday mornings at 10:00 AM and Thursday at 7:00 PM. The building is the Spanish 7^th Day Adventist church on Sierra Vista. Check out our web site at

Praise the Lord for such a wonderful fellowship. There are so many nice spirit-​led people at this church. The pastor (Rick) does a wonderful job of teaching through the Word with clarity and sincere care. The people there are so nice, and they even serve coffee, drinks, and food for free. There is also an agape feast on the first Sunday of each month — basically a potluck — and there are a few people that can really «throw down» on the cooking! The worship team is led by a husband and wife that are amazing — he’s the worship leader, lead singer, and piano player, and she also sings. I’ve heard her lead a few worship songs where she really got to open up the vocal chords — needless to say, the talent of this worship team blew me away.
Great place to study God’s word and fellowship. Highly recommended. If you come by, please introduce yourself while enjoying some coffee and food after service.
