** Yay I’m the first for 2015 **
I’ll keep this as short as possible. I think it’s a breath of fresh air to have such a happy, approachable, humorous eye doctor. I appreciate how he is honest and serious, but yet jovial, when needed. I like when he asks «what questions do you have for me?» I’ve learned to come in with a few questions, even some that are repeats just to be sure I recall the answers from last visit. It is nerve wracking as no one knows your eyes condition, which can change and reminds one anything can change in your eyes. But I called after hours, not knowing which dr was on call, it happen to be him responding lickity split (under 5 min) I couldn’t text back, so I called and he answered and squeezed me in the next morning. When I walked right at door opening, the front reception already knew of My visit. Although seeing a specialists, can be a bit scary, Dr. Borillo has a way of lightening the mood during what may bring you down. I’d certainly recommend him to friends and family ;)

I had a sudden retinal detachment that needed immediate attention. It was around 7 pm in the evening when my primary eye doctor diagnosed the issue and called Dr Borrillo for help. Upon hearing my case he immediately called me to his office and did the necessary procedure to fix the detachment. I was pretty scared at the sudden turn of events but upon meeting him all my fears were gone. He has such a cool and calm demeanor that makes you feel at ease immediately. Throughout the procedure he kept on providing good information on what he was doing and why. After the procedure was over he gave me his cell phone number to call or text with any emergencies/​questions/​concerns. I did use that number to contact him multiple times and lo behold he has immediately responded back in matter of a few minutes (each time). Every follow up appointment has been awesome. He is very approachable and is willing to answer as many questions as needed. I have dealt with many doctors in my life and so far I must say that he has been the BEST in terms of his temperament and approach to giving care to his patients.

I had some weird distortions and big spots in one of my eyes one day out of nowhere. The Sears optometrist said that I had a vitreous detachment and «oh well» nothing could be done. I did not like that answer, as I was pretty much blind out of my left eye, so I called around and was quickly referred to The Northern CA Retina Vitreous Associates. They got me in the next day. It was a pretty long wait, but I was happy they took me with such short notice. Dr. Borillo did a very thorough exam and determined I had two tears. He suggested immediate laser surgery to «spot weld» the retinal lining back together. He and his staff stayed well after they were supposed to have closed to do the outpatient procedure on my eye immediately. I was kind of shaky after the procedure and they were all very nice and helpful. Bottom line, they got me in and saved my eye. Time is really key and if I’d have waited very much longer there would have been major major issues.
Three things I was not expecting
1. Dr. Borillo gave me his cell phone number to call if I had any reason to think there was an issue
2. I paid cash and he gave me a steep discount since my insurance has a super high deductible. This was the first time in my life anything medical related was less expensive that I thought it was going to be. The post visits were all included in the amount I paid up front too, so I’ve been back in with no bills to pay.
3. I was leaving on vacation two days later and he gave me the contact info for a similarly trained eye Dr. he knew there.
I really really can’t thanks Dr. Borillo and his staff enough for getting me in and spot welding my eye back together! Don’t be surprised if the wait is pretty long. It’s been long both times. The other patients are kind of grumpy sometimes about it, but I’m just so thankful to be there reading a magazine at all I don’t really care how long I have to wait.
