All I can say is, eh. Not impressed. They have a decent beer selection, so if you’re super into that, maybe it’s worth it to go here. But I wouldn’t go out of my way. I admit I have a bitter taste in my mouth, and not from the IPA. I came here with a group of friends one time for dinner and drinks, and we all ordered separately. I got a veggie burger, identical to the one another friend ordered, yet mine never came out after waiting and waiting. I eventually told everyone else to go ahead and eat, and had to go up to the counter multiple times to ask about where my food was. After everyone else I was with was completely FINISHED with their food, I finally got my burger, but only after going up to the counter AGAIN to complain. I didn’t get any kind of apology or explanation, and had to scarf down my food since my friends were ready to go by that point. Also, as a default, they serve the veggie burger with a salad instead of fries, like they do for the rest of their burgers. Do I have to be super healthy just because I’m vegetarian?! It’s always pretty crowded here, and I don’t really understand why. I’d say this is a fine place to come for the beer, but don’t recommend getting food here too.

If I could do ZERO stars I would. The website says grass fed beef and gluten free buns. LIES! So after spending 30 minutes in rush hour traffic and then searching for a parking spot in downtown Mountain View, I finally got into the noisy restaurant. The girl at the front didn’t know anything about grass fed beef and so she said she«believes» the beef is grass fed. The guy who brings me my food says that they don’t use grass fed beef anymore. I told him that his website said grass fed beef and gluten free buns. So much for the website being accurate. Now what do I do? I don’t want to give them the burger back because they will throw it away. Now I am stuck eating an unethically and inhumanely grown nasty tasting burger. Per my brother: the fries tasted exactly like Jack in the Box fries. He also ordered the schnitzel. He said it tasted exactly like the chicken sandwich from Jack in the Box. Coincidence?

I usually come here for birthday celebrations or work parties and it’s one of my favorite spots in Mountain View. They have great beers(this coming from someone who doesn’t usually enjoy beers), a fun atmosphere, and lots of classic board and card games. I usually come here with nice company and have always had a fantastic time. For one, I know like nothing about beer besides the fact that cheap ones taste like ass water. But the staff is generally pretty friendly and gives you some advice about what you might like and give you samples so you can figure out what you like. They’re definitely not pretentious or obnoxious by any means. I personally recommend the Asam-Bock lager. The dry cider is also very nice if you’re not a beer drinker. If you’re looking for something adventurous, try the oyster stout… it has a weird chalky taste to it because it’s actually brewed with oysters, but hey if you’re want something different(or aaphrodisiac-al?). It can get a bit rowdy here on Friday and Saturday nights and tables can be hard to come by if you don’t get here early, but then again it’s a beer house so what do you expect. The bathrooms are clean given the volume of the weekend crowd they get. The food here is also good… I love their garlic fries and sampler plate(but I typically only get those if my boss or someone is treating). The kitchen closes at 9:30PM though so get your food before then. My first time here, I came with a pretty big group(last day of my internship so a big group of interns were celebrating). I ordered a burger but it never came despite the waiter coming back twice to tell me that my food is on its way. Eventually everyone else finished eating and my burger still never came and I was pretty pissed. But then the manager came out with my food, apologized to me, and offered me a free beer and a 20% off deal for my next visit(which I used the next year). I was really impressed! Overall I will continue to come back here with friends if we’re looking for a fun night out!

This is a place which takes its beer drinking seriously. There will be about a dozen tap selections ranging from the usual overpowered california IPA’s to cider’s to very solid german/czech style pilsners and lagers. Sorry sour beer fans you’ll have go get your terrible vomit flavored beer somewhere else. Seating both inside and outside is what I’d call mid to late euro beer hall. You’ll prolly be sharing a bench or table at some point in the evening. The outside section very strongly reminds me of munich in the summer, seating wise. The beer comes in sizes ranging from a half pint all the way up to two liter. Yeah that’s right. Two liters. For one person. Ordering is done at the counter, and for us that’s also where we picked up our drinks. This is a two fisted, happy go lucky, two liters of happiness beer bar. Oh, they also serve food and stuff. Be warned nothing good will come of drinking liters of anything and eating spatzle mit meatballs or curry wurst.

It is noticeably bare at high lunch on Castro Street. Asked server about what reds/ambers they had. She didn’t know. Well, give the Czech beer, that should be ok. Regular burger, medium. Took 20 min w/2 other people in restaurant. They use frozen burgers, as mine was still fridge cold in the middle. Disappointing. And just look at the pile of crap they put on my burger. Also, if the bun was any bigger, it couldn’t be called a sandwich. No seasoning, w/hot pickles(which wasn’t mentioned on the menu — lots of people have freaking acid reflux you know!). If people in CA ever go to another(any other) metropolitan city and eat at a couple of the well rated places, you will all realize how bad the food in EVERYCA metro area sucks. Especially this place. Gawd. Update: they did refund my money when they saw I didn’t eat even half the burger.

Been here after work on a few occasions, admittedly with amazing company, and in all occasions have had incredible fresh and unique beer. They have so many to choose from and the Beertenders know their beer and love their work. Olga, Amanda and London are the super stars here. Also the food is very good; Pretzel Buns are the bomb! Great patio with heaters, nice to see a place on Castro with good food, atmo and great service.

Service — great Beer — great Beer prices — great Food — great Food price — horrible for the price you pay Food choices — horrible. I’d agree with changing menu… But don’t be trendy. It’s stupid. Stick to what got you here… changing the menu and cutting out the best parts was not cool. I cam here because of Unilocal and all the stuff people posted wasn’t even on the menu. They had spaztle with meatballs and mushrooms… Ordered it and it was plainer than white rice. I was told to order 2 dishes to «make» the Spaztle… Uh. No. Don’t change the menu and literally cut the balls off your food. Portions here. Not as advertised.

I have to say meh to this place. Would I come again? Sure, with friends for drinks it’s a fun atmosphere and good option for a large group. 2 stars for the food. I would not get food again. It tastes like it’s just microwaved. The sausage and pretzel are lukewarm at best and that’s stuff you want to feel hot off the grill and just baked. Kind of disappointing and Stein’s does them better(but is harder to find space at Stein’s). The sausage also just tastes like a let down.

Stopped in for the first time last night while waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant. Was pleased to see that despite being a beer place, they had a handful of ciders on tap including red branch(which is a local favorite) and schilling(which hails from the pacific northwest and is in my humble opinion some of the best cider there is). I ordered a Schilling & boyfriend had a Hefeweizen. Our total came out to $ 17 for the two drinks which seemed a little steep, but whatever. We enjoyed looking through the game shelf before settling on a round of Jenga. Nice to see that they have these options here. The outdoor area also looked really cute but since it was sprinkling we stayed indoors. May enjoy this place a bit more if we were spending more time or having an app or something, but overall it was a little on the pricey end for tap drinks & nothing particularly special.

I’ve driven by this place many time on my home from work. There were just too many people even think about going in. I did manage to stop in during one of the slow time with my wife and we were pleasantly surprised with the service from the staff and the quality of the food was above average. The real reason why you should try this place is the selection of craft beers. Castro St. is stepping up restaurant selection. Bierhaus is one that is likely to stay.

The place itself is nice. There is a large patio with benches where you can enjoy your beer with friends. Inside, large tables are shared among customers. They also offer board games you can borrow to play during your time there. The beer: great selection but slightly over-priced(9 $ for a dark beer). The food looked good. I am thinking of going back to try the sausage plate. But then why 2 stars??? Something happened when I as there: A gentleman came in with a very large dog(Bernese mountain dog?). The dog’s owner walked straight to the kitchen letting his dog loose in the restaurant. There was a toddler with his dad. The toddler walked toward the exit as him and his dad were about to leave. The large dog started to chase and bark at the toddler, not in a friendly way at all(I almost went to immobilize the dog). The staff didn’t move a bit. What was that large aggressive dog doing there? Left alone loose in the restaurant? why was the dog’s owner in the kitchen? Unacceptable attitude form the staff and the dog owner.

A friend had a Bday gathering here on Sunday and It was my first time here. Since I already ate when I got here, I didn’t try the food here. However, I did try plenty beer here and they are delicious. Just FYI — the beer are craft beer so the price is bit higher than say Coors light, but they are worth it. Palo Alto Belgian Porter’s Vow of Silence is my favorite beer of the night The one I had is Chocolate Porter, it is ok, but not the biggest fan of it. The service is great, no complains here. A great place to have a drink after work or on the weekend.

Great hang out spot! My friend and I met up after work for drinks and ended up spending a few hours there. We enjoyed the outdoor patio. It got busier as the night went by, but it never got too loud. Everyone was there just enjoying their drinks, food, and company. My friend and I shared the bratwurst special and chicken bacon sandwich. Both were good and filling. Looking forward to coming back!

Came in on a Sunday afternoon before heading over to the comedy fest at shoreline. Wasn’t quite sure what to order but the guy behind the cashier was very helpful. I ordered the Tejava tea & a classic burger while my boyfriend ordered an IPA with a belly burger. Our orders came out fairly quick, took about 15min. Fries are crispy which is definitely a plus ! And as for the burger, done just right & juicy too

BIERHAUS! I came here for the first time(mainly because of the patio) in summer 2014, and ever since then it’s been my go-to spot in downtown MV! This place is seriously the most laid back and fun atmosphere on Castro with rotating world-class beers on tap and food menu changes. They have a wonderful patio for those gorgeous days. The long tables and benches encourage people to talk to each other and make new friends. And pet dogs! Some of my favorite food items include the pretzel, sweet potato garlic fries, Artisan plate, which consists of slices of meat and cheese, schnitzle, and the mustard chicken sandwich. As for burgers, I usually stick with the classic burger. You pick how you like it cooked too, which is awesome. Tip: if you plan to have a large group gathering(8 or more), make sure you make a reservation first via email. That way it’s guaranteed that there will be table(s) available for you and your party at the time requested. It’s first come first serve– you order everything at the register, pay, and then seat yourself! Note: Beers are served in .5L and L glasses, and for some that are in high ABV, in 10oz tulip glasses. BIERHAUSSSS!!!

Stopped in for a quick dinner here over the weekend. Nice relaxed atmosphere(for the most part — there was a couple who had kids screaming and running around the patio). Nice touch are all the board games available for customers to kill time while eating/drinking. Many beer and wine choices available. We came for food only — we tried the bratwurst plate to which I added the spaetzle and also the schnitzel plate. Liked both, though the bratwurst is a very modestly sized sausage… wouldn’t mind paying a couple bucks more for a bigger portion. The schnitzel was crispy fried deliciousness. Spaetzle was a nice compliment to both along with the grilled cabbage, though I think I’d prefer sauerkraut on the side instead. The majority of the seating is outdoors and are benches and tables, so you may have to share with strangers… NBD. It’s comfortable enough and the food is good.

Yay! Finally had the chance to try Bierhaus this past weekend. I got to the area a bit before 7 and luckily found a parking spot in a nearby lot — everywhere else seemed to be packed already. Bierhaus was already super busy and the tables were all crowded, save for a few empty spots located in the melting sun. I ordered 1L of the Hofbrau Original Lager(easy, breezy, beer-tiful… so easy and delicious to drink) and a pulled pork sandwich(w/chips). I sat at a table inside to wait for my friends and thank goodness they got here a few minutes later because it was hot inside. We got lucky because a long table emptied outside — we had 5 people so we hurried and grabbed it. My sandwich came out right away, which was surprising but great because I was hungry. However… my sandwich and chips came on the tiniest, narrowest plate ever. A little bit of an overstatement BUT as soon as I touched my sandwich, a glop of pulled pork fell off and onto the table(I still ate it…). Everyone else in our group ordered one of the burger options and theirs came on tiny plates too. Why? I have big hands and a big meal. I’m not an ant. :(Not a big complaint but it was one thing that was hard not to notice. The sandwich was still really good though — so juicy! — and the chips were niiice. Cool place to grab a drink and dinner(techies love it here). Located in downtown Mountain View and therefore close to a lot of other trendy restaurants and bars. Lots of seating too!

BIERHAUS!!! is a name that cannot be written in anything but all-caps and with copious exclamation points, probably due to its Teutonic origins. BIERHAUS!!! proved to be an excellent spot to catch up with some old friends that I hadn’t seen in years as well as chow down on some pretty great German cuisine. While my initial inclination was to go with the wurst, I decided on the schnitzel given that I don’t come across that dish very often, and there’s never enough fried goodness in this world. And, ja, it comes with noodles, err, spaeztle. The jury is still out on whether it comes with wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings, but altogether this would make for a good entry on anybody’s list of their favorite things. The bed of cabbage also tasted great although it was perhaps too plentiful for me to finish before rushing off to the wedding for which I was in town. BIERHAUS!!! also has a fantastic selection of beers. They suckered me in with a taster of an amazing Belgian trippel, and I immediately ordered one.(I forget to write down the actual name of the beer.) The downside is that the beer was pretty pricey, but that’s typical for Belgians at a restaurant, and I would say it was mostly worth it. Summary: BIERHAUS!!!

Always love Bierhaus. Took my friend here who was visiting from Atlanta and got some beers and food! There is happy hour on weekends too. The pretezel and the curry frankfurter and fries were delicious :) We love sitting outside and just lounging around with our beers. Great vibe and the servers are always so friendly on the inside and are always willing to help you choose a beer that you want. I do wish they had more choices of beer on tap. They have boardgames inside as well and dog friendly!

I’ve been wanting to try this place out for a while now. Seems like a popular place as it’s always crowded, and I heard a few good notes from some friends. Went with one of my buddies in the late evening. Both of us got a burger and a beer. We hadn’t eaten in about 10 hours, so we were ready to chow down. My first thought when the burgers came was that they seemed a little small for the cost, but after eating it, I was at a comfortable full-level, and glad I didn’t get fries or another side as well. With the pricing of the beer, I figured it was close enough to worth it anyways. Everything was delicious, and would come back.

Always a pleasant surprise to see what they have on tap. They’re one of the few places that I have come across that offers Rabbit Cider. The prices are pretty fair, they also have group board games, and I’ve seen impromptu performances here as well. Service has always been stellar and they do have a small private lot in the back of the venue but parking is pretty scarce. Overall the food and drinks will definitely bring me back if I’m in the area, the fabulous service doesn’t hurt either. This place is also consistently packed, there is group seating(like all on one bench/picnic table), and you can enter and exit pretty much anywhere in the outdoor area since its loosely fenced. All in all, I’ll be back and I would recommend this joint as well.

I stopped in as it was a hot day and I wanted to relax for 20 minutes with a cold beverage. I am not a big beer fan, but they had honey-apple hard cider, along with a fairly shaded patio. I generally like outdoor seating, if it is out of the heat. The price didn’t seem too bad, esp. for CA. There was a slight breeze outside which, along with the drink, took a bit of the edge off one of the hottest days of the summer(locally). I briefly caught up on some email on my phone and enjoyed a break. Overall, the place seemed more geared towards larger groups(most parties were around 4) or couples on a date.

This place has a cool vibe right when you walk in. Bench top seating inside and outdoors forcing you to say hello, or whats up to your fellow mankind. The beer selection is decent but overpriced for a small glass, and the burgers are great. I tried the cobb and pretzel as well, and it was all great. It isnt a fully staffed sit down spot so dont expect top notch service. but its ok, and the place is just a little over priced for what you get. Needs about a 20% reduction.

I came here when it was SteakOut and gave a confused and bad review. Now that it is Bierhaus, I had to go back and give it a whirl. I loved it. I had a sausage I cannot pronounce with stale bread and kraut. It was awesome, full of flavor. SMALL, for the price($ 20 with a beer… huge beer though) so I licked my plate to the horror of my co-workers and other patrons. Whateves! Just kidding, give me a little more credit… BUT I was tempted. Great beer selection, open airy, outdoor seating at large picnic tables. I would very much recommend Bierhaus and have to numerous friends and co-workers. What was once a rundown weinerschnitzel… is now more like a classy Weinerschnitzel with no chili cheese dogs/fries and a great beer menu… I just high five’d myself for that one!!! I need friends.

On Friday night, my BF brought me here for dinner. What I saw scared me away until the next day. Crowds and crowds of people, both on the patio(the bier garden) and inside ordering beer. I did NOT want to be part of that obnoxious crowd for dinner…no room for romance in that atmosphere! We went elsewhere. The next day, however, as we drove around enjoying the sunshine, we decided to drive by again. Not much of a crowd? Sunny afternoon? This time we stopped, ordered some beer, and ended up spending a lovely afternoon in the sunshine on the patio. We shared several different German beers and appreciated all of them. At 2 or 3 pm, happy hour started, and when I ordered pretzels, they were half price :) Yum, the pretzels came with a horseradish butter and were delicious! After spending a couple of hours drinking and petting other people’s dogs, we headed out, feeling as if we just experienced a perfect afternoon in Mountain View. We considered doing the same thing the next day but decided to preserve the memory without attempting to relive it so soon. We will definitely be back someday.
