This place is AMAZING!!! We wondered in when we first moved here & shared a ½ order of the biscuits & gravy — sooooo good! And a huge portion!!! Finally found a good place for it we went the next week & hubby tried the chicken fried steak… OMG!!! SOOO good — the cook came out both times & chatted with us. The waitresses/hostesses are so nice & friendly — unfortunately I didn’t get their names but, I look forward to returning soon!!!

Had a great time with my god sister. Food was good, but the people made it awesome. I had a bass with me and the cook who is in a local band came out and sat with us for quick minute. He even played a few rockin bass lines. I made a new friend, I’ll be back!!!

The food was yummy. I’m vegetarian and has the veggie omelet. Everyone at our table was satisfied. Food came out quick, service was reasonable considering it was very busy, and price was fair. Portions are large.

Good diner food, typical diner price. The chef is super flexible and will pretty much make you anything! Great staff and a good place to get a milkshake.

The Mount Vernon café was an excellent surprise! A friend and I were traveling back to the Seattle area after a night in Bellingham. We decided to give it a try, since it was one of only a couple places open. So glad we did! Excellent food — omelets and steak, bloody Mary’s — service and ambiance. A diamond in the rough and truly one of a kind in a world full of chain restaurants. Keep the business coming to this place. It’s from a by-gone time!

Quaint. Service was great, even though I believe the waitress was the only one working the entire restaurant. We came for breakfast, and it was delicious! Had the veggie omelet, husband had the Joes Plate, And my son had the corn dogs. Generous portions. We were just driving through.

It’s surprising how hard it is to find a good coffee shop any more – the kind of place that executes the diner classics like you remember them, served by friendly waitresses who make you feel at home even if you’re not a regular. I almost never order tuna melts, which can be disappointing or disastrous. This seemed the place to get a good one, and my judgment didn’t lead me astray. Griddled rye, melty swiss, grilled onions, and an over abundance of crispy fries on the side: here is the platonic ideal of a messy, guilt-inducing diner lunch. My traveling companion had a regular breakfast, and if it weren’t for my impossible pile of fries, I’d have stolen a forkful of crispy hash browns. We were only passing through on our way back to Seattle, but I’m fairly certain this will be a stopping place for future road trips.

In the previous times I had been here the food was perfect. Today the ambiance was excellent as the guys, definitely farmers, were throwing dice to see who would be paying for the meals. Unfortunately for us the food was sub-par. Eggs runny, sausage links were under-cooked and my wife’s scramble had sausage rather than ham. Oh well, maybe next time when we are in town it will be better.

Delicious food and friendly service! I ordered the special which was pumpkin spice pancakes, and let me tell you… amazing. So good. My sister had the rib eye with eggs and it was really good too. We had to wait a little longer than I’d like for the check but it was getting busy so it wasn’t her fault. If you’re looking for a quaint place to enjoy breakfast with a friend, this is it.

We would agree with Colby. Might be the best chicken fried steak that we have had anywhere.

My pal and I were in town for the Tulip Festival, because I like going to small-town festivals. Don’t judge me, I saw what you did to that squirrel the other day. Anyway, we decided to eschew the street selection of corn dogs and funnel cakes and hit this joint, largely because of the swell old-time signage in front and back. It was pretty clear that they weren’t ready for the hardcore tulip freak crowd that came out that night; service was almost nonexistent, but I can’t fault them for that because the café was jammed wall to wall with only two servers, who were getting absolutely slammed. The lounge, which I’m guessing is home to Mount Vernon’s no doubt plentiful population of aged alcoholics, had a comically large selection of fried whatnots, but we went all tradish and ordered off the menu. That’s where the surprise came in: there was nothing spectacular happening, but as diner food goes, the Mount Vernon was a solid double up the middle. My friend’s steak was much better than the gristly, overcooked knobs you get at a lot of diners, and I ordered a French dip/patty melt amalgam called a Charlie Brown that hit the actual spot. It’s also a great place to eavesdrop on whatever insanity is occupying the locals, so there’s that. It wasn’t the best diner I’ve ever visited, but it hit all the notes a diner ought to hit.

Good coffee… Local small town café feel. It was clean, breakfast was good. Standard café fare. Sausage gravy was homemade and good.

Don’t let the building fool you, they serve great food for really great prices. This is the best of local diners with very nice people. Not fancy but I can’t find any food that disappoints. And I’ve been back a few times.
