This place is average at best. The burgers aren’t anything special. The fries are pretty good. I have heard horrors of the soft serve machine not being cleaned and there being mold in it. I used to go a lot in years past, but it’s has really declined in recent years.

This place was DELICIOUS!!! Went to try based on a Seattle Eatery article for suggested restaurants near the tulip fields. Food was fantastic, service was wonderful and the price was awesome. The milkshake was amazing. Highly recommend!

Some of the worst customer service I have encountered in years. I can look past the layers of grease, the smell(not pleasant) and the tacky décor. My family enjoyed a meal we had here a couple of years ago so decided to treat my daughters to a milkshake after a sporting event in the area. The milkshakes had a nasty taste so my daughters(17 and 13) went back in to have them remake them and were told no, «this is how we have made them for years and you are wrong.» Even after politely asking them again they were very rudely told no again. We won’t be back. Ever.

Great burgers, including buffalo burgers. My fav is the fishwich. Though the prices are a bit steep for essentially fast food, the service is always friendly.

Pretty good burgers, pretty good prices, great milkshakes. No big long review needed here, food is always good, service always friendly. The reason it isn’t 5 stars? The burgers just aren’t 5 star good. Love the train going around inside, fun place for the family.

Great place to get a milkshake and burger. Fries are well seasoned and a decent size. Very friendly serious, and the ambiance of the classic western trains makes for a very fun experience.

A little pricey compared to the chain burger joints, but you can’t beat the peanut butter milkshakes. They’re amazing. And everything that gives this place a finishing touch are the western miniature trains passing by above you while you’re eating. Gotta go to this place just to experience this style of dining. The Teriyaki sauce dipped burger, and topped off with a pineapple is really damn good. Americans overall could however improve the quality of bread used. It’s hard to find bread that’s not so spongy and fake. But this place makes it all up with nice customer service, the atmosphere, and their outrageous menu.

Next time your eating here take a look around at all the caked on dust, grease and grime. Sitting at your table look above you and take note of the nasty dirt just waiting to fall down on your food. Who cleans this place? My hunch is no one does or ever has. No one wants to eat at a dirty restaurant. If there’s no pride in cleanliness whats to say there’s pride in hygiene? The food is less than mediocre. I would rather eat at Burger king which isn’t saying much.

Sat next to the drive in window for 45 minutes waiting for sometime to take my order, however, there was a curtain… and no one came. Very open parking lot, lots of wiggle room, it was dark so I ended up peeing in the back. ended up going in for a fry and some nice conversation, Great place.

Burger and was OK, I probably will nor come back. Service was good and food cooked to order, didn’t mind the wait. Probably best to remove ‘voted best burger in 2006? How about improving what you have, guaranteed they could be more busy.

I love burgers! All kinds of burgers. I love Anthony’s happy hour burger, I love Dick’s drive in, and I love homemade burgers, too. I work in Mount Vernon, but live in Bellingham and have passed by the chuckwagon many times. for the last three year the glow of the chuckwagon neon signs have tempted me, but I have either been in a hurry, or just not hungry. Well, this last sunday I happened to get off work early and as I was passing through Mount Vernon –hungry– I thought, «I’m going to check out Chuckwagon and find out what the hooplah is about.» Now, as the saying goes, people love to complain, but forget to praise, and though I wish I had written the review while the flavor The Chuckwagon Deluxe still lingered in my mouth, I just got busy. First things first, the atmosphere is unbelievable — REALLY — you have to see it. Don’t go up to the window, don’t EVEN waste your time outside. The inside is great, it’s like a burger-wild-west-time-capsule. Secondly, the burger honestly tasted kind of not-that-great, but like, WHATEVER?! presentation is half of it, anyway. Thirdly, the service was STELLAR. I mean, they were just great. The girls working at the counter were nice and friendly and told me all about the shakes –which I ending up getting despite the fact that I never get shakes. we chit-chatted and I asked about dipping sauces — so let me delve into that for a bit: The dipping sauce is called, «goop.» and it’s like tartar and ketchup mixed together to make a perfect union. I believe this was on my burger and it added a well needed complexity to the semi-bland burger. Go to the Chuckwagon, get a burger — don’t get cheddar on it like I did, it is total white noise on the burger, instead get American or Pepper Jack, or something. Get a Pineapple shake if you like Pineapple, I hear the blackberry is good too. The fries are great, nice and crispy with just the right amount of salt. imho, Chuckwagon is far far far far far better than Big Scoop — TALKABOUTWHITENOISE.

Just for the milkshakes: had I known about the prior reviews on burgers, I actually may have been tempted lol and see where it’s at, reviews seem to be everywhere. Was in a mood of chocolate milkshake, and say this totally rocks. Thick too. Interior-wise, it’s not exactly date worthy; heck, even the outside would scare off most, it’s a bit run-down. Kinda reminds me of a saloon for some reason, or a western theme cowboys, but you get the picture, it’s antiquated, but the whole idea. Lots of spacious seating. Reasonable prices for their burgers, most were in the $ 5 range.

Great burgers!!! If you are in Mt. Vernon and want a nice burger with many different choices of burger styles and add-ons I will recommend this place! The staff was very nice as well and the ambience is neat and reminds you of a place that has been around a while and developed a clientele plus it is always busy. We only had a few different types of burgers and fries but enjoyed them very much. The sautéed onions were nice since a lot of burger joint put raw onions on burgers which is not tasty. I will go there again when we are up in Mt. Vernon next year.

For as long as I can remember, my dad would treat me out to Chuck Wagon after my violin lessons and performances. I love the deluxe with either a blackberry milkshake or the peanut butter milk shake. The Chuck Wagon is great for families. And in most ways, especially to me, it’s memorable and it takes me back to some great memories with both friends and family. So whether you live in the area or on your way up north, chuck wagon is worth the wait. I’d name it my ultimate burger joint for life!

The menu here is eclectic and there’s something for nearly everyone: Buffalo burgers for the adventurous, and vegetarian burgers for the weight-conscious. The art of the post-WWII hamburger joint burger is being lost, but we’re fortunate in the Skagit Valley having a couple of places that adhere to that older-style burger – You know what I’m talking about: Thin patty, airy bun, chopped lettuce and mayo served with the most basic crinkle-cut french fry you could ask for. I’ve seen some criticisms of the fries, but I for one appreciate the simplicity of the drive-in style crinkle-cuts. As more places try to make their fries stand out by double-frying, tempura-battering, or shoe-stringing them, sometimes a connoisseur yearns for a taste from the past. Since The Chuckwagon is about a mile from my house, I’m able to walk there with the kids on nice days. It doesn’t look like much from the outside(or the inside, really) but the staff is uniformly cheerful and attentive. A suspended O-scale model train meanders though the kitchen and dining room overhead, while a variety of western style paraphernalia decorate the walls. The cinder-block restaurant hails from another era, and it certainly has seen better days, but the inside is clean and well-maintained. The food offerings are what one would expect from a 70-year-old burger joint: A mix of the old and the new with burger variants utilizing most of the toppings one could reasonably expect on a burger, whether it’s a fried egg, avocado, chili, or jalapenos. I recommend the Ranch BBQ Burger, which is a single patty with the options of cheese and onions(grilled please!) with an onion ring on top and smothered in a mix of BBQ sauce and the house ranch dressing. The single thin patty makes this a hearty yet not heavy meal, provided you don’t weigh yourself down with a lot of fries afterward. A large fry is truly enough to feed two or three people. Their milkshakes and ice cream are courtesy of an Oregon creamery called Cascade Glacier. Their flavors rotate a bit, but they usually have two or three uncommon ones, like Blue Bubble Gum, Black Licorice, or Mountain Blackberry. If you’re a people-watcher, on a nice day, you’ll see a good number of elderly people cycling through(often just getting a shake or ice cream,) clearly enjoying the change of pace from a typical fast food place. The food isn’t perfect, of course, and the price is significantly higher than what you’ll pay for a burger and fries at a drive through, but sometimes it’s worth paying more for a taste of your childhood, or to eat fast food that still feels honest and unprocessed.

When is the first time you heard about a burger with peanut butter on it? Well, I don’t know about you, but the first time I ever heard of it was here – almost 30 years ago. I recently saw a Food Network show with a bar showcasing their«Goober Burger». I thought, «Awwww shoot, that’s been around forEVER at Chuck Wagon! They also have a famous potato burger: two burger patties sandwiching a McDonald’s hashbrown essentially. That was usually the burger of choice for my friends – no one was brave enough as kids to try the PBB. They also serve a few kinds of buffalo burgers. I’ve had buffalo and ostrich at the old Country Café off of Memorial Hwy, and I have to say it’s not my favorite. Too… beef-like for me. I tried their curly fries yesterday, which tasted like a curly fry should taste, but their crinkle-cut fries were always my favorite thing here. I think it’s because the oil picks up the other flavors of food that is cooked in it, which would normally gross me out, but it’s like a special ingredient here haha The words ‘drive-in’ are in the name, but I have yet to see a car actually use the drive-thru. Everybody goes inside so they can sit with the carved wooden cowboys and ‘Indians’, watch the small train circle the ceiling rails, play the old-timey video games, and get a scoop of ice cream. This is also the first place I had ever tasted pumpkin ice cream! They were serving up more creative ice cream before it was hip to have unusual ice cream flavors :) Make that a milkshake please. Chuck Wagon, you were ahead of your time. But I would recommend changing up your billboard. Best burger in 2006? That was a long time ago. I think you have it in you to make something original and unusual in 2013.

A friend brought me here after some serious strawberry picking. We were pretty hungry and in need of some salt, and he remembered liking this place quite a bit when he lived up there. I can see the charm of this place — the small town(is it okay that I call Mt. Vernon a small town??) «mom and pop» burger joint. Apparently, the establishment has had a serious face lift, and I thought the interior was«cute» — what I expected from a place like this. They had trains racing around above our heads(reminded me of Billy McHale’s) and the staff was very friendly. I ordered the brunch burger with onions and a side of fries. The burger was just okay. Everything is better with a fried egg and bacon, but you can’t mask the lower quality of the beef patty. I’ve had much better burgers from other small burger places. Their fries were delicious, but given the crinkle-shape, I’m assuming that they were just out of a bag? Granted, potato in any shape and form are usually okay in my book. I can’t say that I’d come back here again, given that I’d have to drive over an hour, but if I’m in the area… then maybe…
