So, I didn’t write a review on my first visit… it was take-out sushi, and although it was good, I didn’t feel it was terrific or horrible, or that I was actually getting the full experience. I don’t know about you but there’s something different about sushi when you eat-in vs take out. Our first visit was good but again nothing to write about. We decided to give it another shot based on all the positive reviews. Glad we did. We started with some garlic edamame… it’s my first time having garlic edamame, it won’t be the last. It’s your basic edamame but it’s cooked in a buttery garlic sauce giving it a Thai flavor. Great start! We ordered three rolls and some Sashimi. We had the basic Spicy Crunchy Salmon roll, the Makimoto roll, and the Dragon roll. All three were very good… but the two«special rolls», the Makimoto and Dragon were definitely better. For Sashimi, we had Salmon and Tuna; both were large portions… Bigger than most other places give you. Service was good, food was great, atmosphere is what you expect of a strip mall sushi restaurant. Recommend trying it for dine-in.

Very good sushi! The inside is very pretty and our server was very attentive. The rolls were delicious and very generous. Definitely the best sushi I have had in Charleston!

This place was really good. For apps we got the shrimp shumai and the pork gyoza both were excellent. Both had sauce hich was well paired. For mains we got the«sushi and sashimi for two» off the menu, I didn’t really understand from the wording on the menu that it was a chefs choice option, but it was great regardless. The best part is that it came on a completely obnoxious pirate ship shaped basket/plate thing. If you don’t like people looking at you while you eat don’t order this. I would totally stare at you if this was on your table and not mine! Drinks were of course Saporo. Nothing to do with this reataurant but still I want to give a shout out to Japan. Well done Japan, I’m a fan of your beer! Summery: Sushi Taro is good. Go there. Get sushi and Saporo.

Nice little spot. Good food, reasonable prices. They surprised us with a warm brownie and ice cream on the house.

Yum! My boyfriend and I recently moved from NYC and have slightly stuffy opinions when it comes to judging sushi. Sushi Taro was delicious! The service was warm and inviting, and well paced given our order of 3 separate courses. We shared the shrimp shumai, gyoza, and chefs choice sushi/sashimi for two. Side note, that’s a LOT of food! They literally serve it in a BOAT. Everything was flavorful and well prepared. Freshness is my number one concern when ordering sushi, and this was spot on!

The restaurant has nice embiance with large windows. Lots of light is a very small venue. The sushi was fresh and average. The rice lump inside the sushi was too large and loose, such that the pieces of sushi would fall apart before you can get them to your mouth. The service was prompt and curteous. 3.5 stars

Love this place. The sushi is fresh and tasty. My favorite is the Yama hand roll with spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, cucumber and asparagus slices wrapped in soy paper. It is so yummy! The tuna amazing is also AMAZING! It’s special sauce ties everything together and gives it a wonderful flavor! The owner is the sushi chef so everything is handled with such care and love. His wife is often there to help with the service. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very comfortable because they make you feel like family. If you are looking for a great sushi place, come on to Sushi Taro! It’s the place to be.

The sushi is absolutely amazing. Unbelievably amazing. The service however, not the best. There’s one waitress who never says a word and I don’t think I’ve ever seen her smile. The other guy is very friendly but it can take ages for them to come by and take an order or bring you a drink. It took a good 15 minutes to bring me a drink the first time I came here. However, I will continue to come here because the sushi is just absolutely incredible. The Dragon roll in particular is exquisite!

Pleasantly surprised by this fantastic Japan restaurant. The entrees come with miso soup, salad and fried rice. I wasn’t a fan of the miso soup, the broth smelled unusual. They might have used a fish broth but I like chicken or beef broth. I had the scallop hibachi grill entrée and the scallops were prepared to perfection. They even surprised us at the end with a brownie/ice cream dessert on the house. Wonderful, fast service!

For quick Japanese food great place to go in Mt. Pleasant, this is a very clean restaurant, they give good customer service and they are efficient. Plus the food is good and fast! Today we ordered Hibachi Lunch menu shrimp and steak and both came out great. We had Mochi for dessert.

Wow! This place is really, really solid! We’ve been looking for a go-to sushi place since we moved to Mount Pleasant last year, and we’ve gone through Bambu, Fuji, Tsunami, The Oriental Garden, each of which we felt were lacking in either food quality(Fuji), ambiance(Oriental Garden), or were just too damned expensive with generally crappy food(Bambu). With our visit to Sushi Taro yesterday, we’ve finally found our home! First, half price bottles of wine from Monday to Thursday. Second, half price sake Wednesday through Sunday.(I believe that’s correct, but don’t quote me.) We grabbed a bottle of chardonnay to celebrate our anniversary lunch, and an order of edamame. Every sushi place does edamame a little differently, but Sushi Taro does it exactly the way I like it — steamed, yet firm, and with a decent, but not overpowering amount of salt. It was perfect. For lunch, we ordered some nigiri — yellowtail tuna, salmon, scallop, and eel — and a couple rolls — spicy crunchy salmon, tuna avocado, and a tuna amazing roll. Each was amazing! The rolls were large, but not overly massive that you can’t get them in your mouth. The nigiri was incredibly fresh, delicious, and were larger than you’d normally get from a sushi joint. You will not leave hungry! The scallop was so good that I was even able to get Meghan C. to try some, and she really liked it! Ambiance is awesome, prices are good, food is phenomenal! Why aren’t you eating here, yet?!?

So, Sushi Taro… nice to meet you. Prompt service, ½ price bottles of wine M-W, and uhhhh freaking awesome sushi! Insanely tasty, large portions of fish and the prices are not too bad, at all! This is sushi, though, folks, so don’t expect a $ 20 meal. JR C. is home for Veteran’s Day and we couldn’t have found a better way to celebrate our 15 year anniversary while the baby was at school! ALSO, the tunes are from my Pandora station… Massive Attack, Fc Kahuna(this was weird because JR C. goes…“if FC Kahuna comes on next, we need to see if your Pandora is somehow streaming at this restaurant”). Very chill/mellow atmosphere, small and well decorated. Definitely the best sushi I have had in the Charleston area, and for most of the other places I have lived, for that matter.
