Midori is a blessing if you need a quick sushi fix and want something a step up from Meijer. Their strategy, however, seems to be «we’ll make really good cocktails and no one will notice how limited the sushi menu is and how mediocre it is.» There’s something to be said for this strategy. The drinks are good and the interior is appealing. It’s a nice place to sit for a cocktail and they have some good appetizers. The sushi, however, doesn’t hold a candle to either Maru in Midland or, the top, Sansu in Lansing. If what you are after is really good sushi – not cocktails and atmosphere – then you are still going to have to drive a bit. It’s nice to have Midori in Mt. Pleasant and I wish them well. The sushi menu however could be expanded(a lot), more innovative, and better made.

I don’t eat seafood or sushi BUT I love all the food I’ve ever eaten at Midori. The food is a little pricey but maybe sushi generally expensive, IDK. The best part about Midori is that you don’t realize you are in Mt. Pleasant. :) Between the menu, the drinks, & the atmosphere it is a real treat! Portions are on the smaller side, especially for the price but it is a nice indulgence a few times a year.

Dined here last night with my business partners and all thoroughly enjoyed it. Star of the show had to be the firecracker(?) shrimp — spicy and flavorful… sushi rolls hit he spot. only disappointment was the Kobe beef which is served raw and you sear it on a hot rock-delicious but the rock cools quickly and by the second piece you’re not able to get a real good sear. Our server, Ann Marie was terrific and managed our boisterous behavior rather well. Will definitely return.

I give Midori 4 stars because of the place and design. It is in downtown, always quite and has this sophisticated ambiance. The food is a bit over priced for the taste.

I don’t write reviews often, but I don’t get why this place doesn’t have significantly more stars than it does. I ate here on a quite Monday night after the university kids were gone because it was really my only dining option here. The food was really good, and of at least as good quality as I get in Chicago or SF. Service was great to boot. I was hesitant because of some of the bad reviews, but this place is really good and would definitely hold its own in any major city.

Terrible service. When asked to speak to a manager we were told there wasn’t one on duty that night. 90 minutes in the restaurant and our water was not filled once. Once we got the food it was delicious… But unfortunately half the party ordered sushi and the other half did not– which meant our food was brought out 30 minutes apart. Half the party was done eating before the other half got their food. I won’t be going back– if you decide to go I hope your service will be better than ours.

Very bad first impression. I will try this place again but will order completely different. The firecracker shrimp were very good. I ordered the omakase for my meal. Very dissatisfied. I think they confused omakase with nigiri. The whole thing was nine pieces of fish. When a sushi place has omakase on the menu, most places don’t, it is so the chef can make something interesting that is not on the menu. Giving him the power to express himself with his dish. I’m be had it a lot of other places around the country and this place doesn’t know what it means. I strongly advise you to not order that. Do get the Michigan role. That was very good.

Great service and excellent appetizers. Definitely recommend! Everyone was so accommodating and made our party a new drink to meet their taste. What more can you ask for?

DELICIOUS! EXCELLENTSERVICE! This beautifully done restaurant is an absolute gem in the Mt. Pleasant area! The lettuce wraps and fresh rolls are wonderful! If you don’t care for sushi there are fantastic alternate entrées. They make the best cocktails and recently made a custom creation for a friend and me! AWESOME! Can’t wait to go back!

Midori provided an experience that exceeded my expectations on all fronts. Being a Central student, I had only heard great things about Midori from people that have gone there, but I wanted to wait until I was 21 to fully grasp what Midori had to offer. My girlfriend and I went for dinner and cocktails, and everything was amazing. The miso soup we had before our meal was some of the best I had ever had. The sushi was phenomenal, but I have had the same quality of sushi from places that were a bit lighter on the pocketbook. I guess you’re paying for the atmosphere. The cocktails were the best part of the night. I had the white peach martini, and my better half had a pomegranate mojito. Both were a tad strong, but very tasty. I strongly recommend midori, and plan on going back soon!

I love just about everything I try from here. My favorites would have to be the Crab Wontons, firecracker shrimp, and the Michigan specialty roll. Sadly all of the above mentioned products are incredibly pricey, meaning I only get my Fauxshi fix once every two weeks. The drinks are wicked strong, and will leave you falling drunkenly off of their crazy high bar tables and chairs rather quickly. All in all, Midori is definitely a hot spot to visit while you are in the Mt. Pleasant area.

Visiting for the 2nd time, but the stars go from five to four. We ordered miso soup, edamame, grilled lamb chops, and a zen roll. The food was excellent as expected, but there were some minor issues(none of which ruined the day). 1) The lamb chops were ordered medium rare, but were clearly medium well to well down. However, it was the juiciest lamb I’ve had and tasted great and I did not mind. 2) There was too much broth in the lamb chop dish when combined with the noodles. If I’d have worn a light-colored shirt, it may have been decorated with broth splashes. 3) My girlfriend is tiny, so she had to ‘deconstruct’ the zen roll because it was too big for her mouth. It tasted fine, but she couldn’t enjoy all the flavors at once because she had to cut each roll in half. 4) While very good, the lamb chops were overpriced by about 6 – 7 dollars. There were three small lamb chops over noodles and a broth for $ 24. For that price, I’d expect two or three more chops, as the meal was not filling. Like I said, the flavors were great and we enjoyed our meal, but portions and prices were.

When you enter Midori you no longer feel like you’re in Mt Pleasant — nice urban/metropolitan feel. Outdoor dinning in summer months too. Best martinis by far in the Mt Pleasant area — and always consistently good! Great service, wait staff and bartenders.

If you’ve had real sushi, don’t bother coming to this place. Ridiculously overpriced for their small portions. If anything, they’re only good for their drinks.

I absolutely love Midori! You can’t go wrong with their Michigan roll($ 14). They have a wide variety of cocktails that are all delicious. Everything I’ve tasted at this restaurant has been fantastic. The specialty rolls are a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. The modern atmosphere is comparable to something you would find in a larger city. I now live in California and have yet to find a sushi restaurant that compares.

Okay yes it is very exciting that Mt P finally has a sushi restaurant. But this one is pretty meh. Service was really bad(although we were there at an off time, late lunch, so probably not their A game staff). Sushi was meh — didn’t taste too fishy or «off» which was a relief, but was really boring, nothing really interesting on the menu and pretty blah when it came. Cocktails were not bad and I loved our seating — just inside the restaurant but with open doors out into the street. If you are a sushi fan you’re going to be disappointed.

I’ve eaten at sushi restaurants in major metropolitan cities all over the country and I have to say that the quality of fish at Midori stacks up there with anything I’ve had from Chicago to NYC and SD. They use Shashimi quality fish in all of their rolls, which is very rare. If you are not a sushi lover, they also have great non fish alternatives like the lamb chops or the chicken Teriyaki. As for the service, I probably eat here once a week and I have never had bad service. I suppose it probably helps being a regular, but even before I was a regular, I always had quality service. If you are looking for great food in a metropolitan environment, this the place to go!

SOGOOD! I cannot emphasize enough how great this place is. We started off with some drinks and small plates. I had the Asian Pear Martini, which may very well be the best cocktail I’ve ever had — the mix of ginger and pear flavors was unexpectedly delicious. I also had a Blood Orange Martini, which was also very good and not too sweet. The small plates were also good: scallops with watermelon salad, and pork and veggie dumplings — yum! We split a few sushi rolls: the Ninja(crab and tempura avocado) was very good. I was also surprised that I enjoyed the Kong roll — eel, banana, cream cheese, and strawberries are an unusual combination, but it really works. The best roll by far was the Fire up! roll — tempura shrimp, spicy tuna, and serrano peppers. If you like spicy, this roll is definitely for you. We finished off the meal with some dessert sushi, so clever! They put coconut in the rice and use fruit instead of fish. Also, you get a bowl of chocolate sauce instead of soy. Clever and delicious :) It was a great meal, I can’t wait to go back!
