Big fan of their green curry. I like both the downtown and the Mt. Pleasant locations.

I ordered the fresh summer rolls and Pad Thai. Both were so good! The pad Thai sauce was creamy and delightful, and I loved the size of the noodles used. It was a very savory dish. Service was great. I was a little off put by how dark the restarant was, especially for a lunch time meal.

I have NOIDEA why I was so reticent to come to Basil(I love Thai food), but I can only surmise I have had bad/gross experiences lately and just MEH, don’t want a bowl of flaccid noodles with Aunt Jemima poured all over it and some cucumbers. That said, this is only for the bar — it is upstairs, guys! Weird but worth the journey up. It was a beautiful evening on Saturday and the view and the ambiance was amazing — fresh air, nice lounge areas outside on the balcony. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a drink while we waiting for our table at Opal and our tender was super friendly, and made JR C. a kickass whiskey drink. I stuck to a glass of Malbec and it was very solid for $ 8. I’ll give you a whirl, again, Basil! Glad I let myself get dragged in!

Basil has fantastic food. Dinner seems a bit pricey, especially since you can get the same portions for $ 5 less during lunch hours. I generally just get carry out at lunch. The waitstaff and the manager/owner(?) are usually attentive. The hostesses are weirdly disinterested and really pressure you to go upstairs for bar seating instead of being seated in the main dining area.

I love Basil! So glad they opened one in Mt. Pleasant a few years ago! The Mount Pleasant location does have a nice outside patio bar area! I always recommend Pad Thai and the coconut chicken soup(can’t remember the exact name of it on menu) but so good!

Yes this place rocks! I must admit I try to Bring my gang here once week to do happy hour. They have an excellent deal when it comes to apps and drinks. The happy hour is from 5 to 7 weekdays. The staff upstairs at the bar are superb! They really are great at taking care of their customers. Upstairs is beautiful with the roll up doors and open surroundings. As every other time the food is stellar from apps to main course! See you all next week.

They have a nice upstairs deck and good drink deals at happy hour. They serve traditional thai food like curry but they also have a good range of «regular» dishes for less adventurous eaters like fried rice, cashew chicken or sweet and sour chicken. Their chicken wings are really good and they usually have them on special at happy hour. My favorite is the green curry or the coconut soup. The soups are big enough for a meal or can be shared with 3 people(or more) for an appetizer.

Preface: I don’t eat spicy food. My normal order: the coconut soup, which sometimes I have to share with others and that’s the worst because I lurve the soup! Usually followed up by pad thai, with generous servings of meat, aka more than 2 shrimps. If I don’t share, there is definitely enough leftover for lunch the next day. I enjoy the Mt. P location better than going downtown based on the parking situation alone. The service is always quick and friendly. We arrived at 10pm on a Saturday night and our server didn’t even bat an eye AND she kept a friendly attitude, even though she would have probably rather have not had to deal with the table who was there till closing. Definitely earned her a bit higher tip. This is one of my favorite asian places to suggest to my friends when they are in the mood for Thai since they have non-spicy options for me… ANDTHESOUP. THESOUPISWORTHTHEVISIT. Even if you just get the soup. GOTOBASIL.

We have been going to Basil in their Downtown, Mt. Pleasant, and Columbia location since we have moved to Charleston four years ago. Last three visits experience has been bad to worse. Primary reason is very poor service. Today, we went to celebrate my friends promotion. Table was set for two when we were a party of three. Waitress had poor attitude from beginning and brought cold jasmine tea. When we were about to start eating our appetizers, she interrupted our conversation and without even asking if we would like to wait to order our main course– proceeded to ask what we would like to order. We felt rushed. The table was still set for two, and had to ask another server for silver ware and napkin. I requested to speak with Manager– who was polite but made excuses for waitress and did not acknowledge the poor service or us feeling rushed. We requested for another waiter who was more upbeat. We ordered our main courses for share. Serving spoons were missing, and my elderly mom still was not provided with either napkin or silver ware. When we asked for Manager again, we got same excuses without her simply acknowledging the«misses». We left feeling extremely dissatisfied and being treated poorly.

Went to this restaurant last night with friend. It’s really in nice location. In a middle of shopping arcade. Inside is very elegant. Hostess was pleasant and friendly. Our server was also very good. I had Pad Thai and my friend had duck red curry. My food tasted really good. I recommend anybody to go to this restaurant. There is another location downtown. I haven’t been to that one yet.

I have to say the pricing for Restaurant Week was phenomenal $ 20.00 for 3 courses. The menu was varied & three choices per course. A definite deal. However, the food was average. I wasn’t wowed. The staff, ambiance décor was awesome & I’m glad I went but as I say it was just ok. Good deal for those looking for what would normally be probably an expensive night.

I can’t say enough positive things about this place! The service, food, and ambiance make it such a wonderful experience. My favorite dishes are the Pad Thai, Red Curry Duck, and the Three Flavored Fish. The coconut soup and basil rolls can’t be left out either. This Thai restaurant is amazing and will quickly become one of your go to places to dine!

Tragically snobby service. I say«tragically» because the food is delicious, and the ambiance is attractive. But those things only matter so much if the dining experience is otherwise unpleasant. Highly suggest that Basil better screen/train its employees. The hostesses and waitress we had were condescending to my elderly in-laws and treated them as if they weren’t worthy of their patience. Seriously disappointing. I suppose that Basil is more into the«chic, young, cool» crowd… If you are all of these things, I am certain you will enjoy it. If you’re looking for kind service with a dose of humility, I suggest you take your money elsewhere.

We generally like this restaurant but recently had an off experience, and their reservation and seating system needs some work. When calling for a near-term reservation I was told one had to reserve at least an hour ahead of time, but that there was currently no wait. Upon arrival was told there was a 30 minute wait. At the 30 minute mark we were told they were just«waiting for a party that was finished to get up.» I noticed about three tables ostensibly open up in the next 20 minutes, which were slow to be cleared and cleaned. At hour, a party that came after us was seated ahead of us, at which point we left, which drew no notice whatsoever from the apparently oblivious hostess. Disappointing, as the food generally is quite good and the service in the past has been excellent. Hopefully not a trend.

Bar service was absolutely atrocious. Placed an order for drinks and appetizers and proceeded to get both without issue. Bartender seemed to make rounds to everybody else sitting at the bar, and approached us after about 15 minutes. I asked for actual menus and stated we were still waiting on waters. She responded«Sorry doing the best I can for being the only person here tonight.» At this point, I rolled my eyes and shook it off. After 20 more minutes, we had yet to place our order and had empty drinks in front of us. This location used to be so much better in terms of quality and service. Extremely disappointed.

We got our order to go, but I can’t wait to find in next time. The restaurant is gorgeous instead. We had the Pad Thai and the Massaman Curry. Both dishes were excellent. The Curry was pretty mild, great flavor, but if you like spicy you may want to request more heat.

Another excellent lunch at Mount Pleasant Basil. The patio is such a nice place to eat on a sunny afternoon. Service was great, food was excellent, as usual. Elizabeth, the GM, brought our meals to the table — nice touch, and she couldn’t have been nicer — a true professional. Thanks!!!

Delicious AND healthy food! Some friends took me here for lunch last week and I brought my family back so they could experience this incredible cuisine. The food is light and very flavorful! The egg roll appetizer is amazing but slightly pricey. $ 5⁄2 The rest of the menu is very reasonable. My family of four ate for $ 65 which included an appetizer and two Thai Teas. My son loved the tea, which is made in house, but I wasn’t a fan. I got the vegetable delight with shrimp, my son got the Pad Thai(their signature dish) and my wife and daughter both got Pad See-Eu with beef. Consensus of all family members… Delicious!

Amazing food, wonderful atmosphere. Go to the rooftop for happy hour! Awesome drink and app specials. Seriously the happy hour drink prices are unbeatable, especially for the quality drink you are getting. Every appetizer is yummy. Staff is friendly. I’d go everyday if I could.

This place has a cool vibe. It is pretty loud so, I’d recommend coming here for a girls night out or pre-game dinner before going to the bar on a Friday night etc. It reminded me of hip Asian restaurants in New York. We started our meal with Stuffed Shrimp. These were a nice size shrimp wrapped in a thin dough and fried. They were quite good and crispy. For my entrée, I had the Pad Woon Sen. The portion was great, but this was not my favorite dish. It had very mild flavors. I was most disappointed with the chicken. I found the chicken to be dry and almost gritty as if it was cooked in water. For my dessert, I had the Fried Green Tea Ice Cream. This blew my socks off! I think it is the best fried ice cream that I have had. It was a big ball of ice cream covered in batter and fried to perfection. Overall, I found the restaurant to be well priced and our server was friendly. Final Thoughts: Green Tea Ice Cream was amazing!

Food quality is consistently good. The Pad see ew and the Musaman Curry is always on point. Their duck appetizer is really great I highly recommend that also. If youre upstairs at the bar or in the mood for a cocktail they have a version of a dark and stormy which I thought was really great also. I’ve never had a bad experience at the upstairs bar, the bartenders are always awesome. I order take out here fairly often and have been in to eat a number of times. Not one of those times have I not ended up extremely pissed off at the hostess. Tall girl who’s name I don’t know you are always cool and I appriciate the effort you make, keep up the great work. Shorter girl… why the hell are you in customer service? You are obviously superior to everyone around you and at the whopping age of 17 you are of course entitled to talk down to me for you being overbooked and me having to wait for my table.

We were visiting Mt. Pleasant and wanted to take some family out to dinner– this is the place they chose. The location is beautiful! Great décor. We got appetizers and drinks– the food came out quickly(and the place was busy!) and hot. I shared the Three Flavored fish– it was flavorful and a beautiful dish. Glad we were able to try this place on our trip.

Most likely the best Thai food in South Carolina. Everything is made fresh. The kitchen is separated from the dining area with glass so you can see what’s going on and it’s very impressive. Fresh ginger, basil, bamboo shoots, other vegetables and fresh meat. And if you still need more convincing that every single ingredient is fresh the aroma of your entrée will be the proof. So many spices and just the right amount of each make every entrée, specially their curries over the top. The thai iced tea is also fantastic. This is the only place in Charleston that makes it exactly as it should be and not too sweet. The place is nicely decorated. It’s very modern and classy yet simple and elegant. The happy hour is also pretty good. Fairly priced appetizers can be ordered in the relaxing ambiance of the upstairs bar. There’s also outside seating that’s very nice.

Love love the ambience and atmosphere. Sit at the outdoor bar upstairs if you can. We sat right by the kitchen prep window and I loved watching all the food come out. Lots of options for vegetarians and vegans. My husband’s shrimp in the pad Thai was WAY over cooked and rubbery, but we enjoyed our experience otherwise. The service was splendid and our glasses were never empty.

Absolutely love this place! The basil Thai with beef is my favorite. It has the Perfect spicy kick! The serving size is perfect because often times I can take some home for leftovers the next day. The fried wontons are really good too for an appetizer! I have tried the sweet and sour chicken and was not crazy about that. It didn’t have much flavor. I think it was more the chicken then the sauce. Id be open to trying it again with beef. My friend got the pad Thai. I really want to try that next time. Looked delicious! Last night, we went and had their special appetizer which was Thai wings It was really good. The atmosphere really makes it at Basil in Mt.Pleasant. It is located right next to a pond and their is a bar area that overlooks the pond. Along with the interior design, it feels just like you are in Thailand.

I thought the food was excellent and I’m already craving more. We are big seafood fans, so we got the seafood soup, mixed seafood entrée and shrimp w/flat noodles. Sorry, I don’t remember the actual names. All were great and perfectly spiced as they said they would be — medium. We are from up-north and I’ve been craving drunken noodles in the worst way. The flatten noodles were about as close as possible w/only the slightest difference. Delicious! We loved the presentation of the soup, except the cups you scoop your soup into were so small it was awkward to eat, but luckily it was so delicious you got past that quickly. The building is beautiful, but we were bothered by 2 things. When we made reservations(It was Valentine’s Day we were going) several days in advance we were told absolutely nothing would be available until 9pm. We showed up at 8pm figuring we’d get a drink at the bar and the place was more than ½ empty. Also, our seats were so uncomfortably close we had difficulty having a conversation — we might as well have been sitting with the couples to our right and left. I’d go again, hoping the seating was due to shoving more people in for the special day, but if that’s the norm, the seating would probably keep me from going again.

Our past experiences at Basil have been most positive and tonight was no exception. With Restaurant Week pricing of 3 courses for $ 20.00, you can’t go wrong … there were many appetizers and entrees to choose plus a choice of three yummy desserts. There were three diners in our party. We each ordered the Basil ‘summer’ rolls. The order came with 2 plump rolls, stuffed with shrimp, rice noodles and veggies and accompanied with a small bowl of a delightful dipping sauce topped with peanuts. Our guest ordered the Pad Thai, Extra spicy, with chicken and shrimp. The portion was huge and I understand that if was delicious. Our server brought out a small plate with 3 containers of different hot sauces. My husband and I both ordered the Basil Tilapia. It came plated with an assortment of julienne vegetables and was luscious, A large covered pot of white rice was provided for the table. It was ample … we did not need a second helping. Our dessert selections included coconut cream with sticky rice and a tower of chocolate mousse on a raspberry macaroon covered in milk chocolate. Yum! Our server, Alisha, was attentive and timed delivery of the courses, well. Don’t wait for next Restaurant Week to check out Basil. With its stylish exterior and interior, fabulous view and well priced menu selections, you’ll enjoy the whole experience. Be sure to check out the second floor bar.

This Basil location is unquestionably inferior to their downtown location. That being said, it is well suited for Mt. Pleasant in comparison: higher prices, smaller portions, and worse service… but it’s got to be good because it’s in Mt. P and everyone is going there, RIGHT? Service here is generally not so good. Not terrible, but definitely not good considering the price point. The hostesses at the front are always acting overwhelmed, despite the fact that there are usually three of them and only a couple of people waiting. The food is definitely made with the same recipes as the downtown location, however, it feels more mass-produced and made with less care here, and the portion sizes are slightly smaller. The only possible advantage this location has is the fact that they take reservations. The downtown location does not; but it is well worth the wait. The only reason we ever go to the Seaside Farms Basil is because we have some friends who live nearby. I give two stars because I have high expectations for Basil; and this particular location certainly lets me down every time.
