was craving for indian buffet on a nice weekday afternoon. Unilocal said it would open for another hour or so. therefore decided to try it out. horrible! the trays were practically empty. TIP :check the food availability before sitting, no matter how rude it may look. Details: upon arrival, we noticed the restaurant was practically empty except for another table. the server took us to a table. With our irrational hungry stomach guiding us, we went straight to the buffet table, took a plate and got a good heapfull of rice on our plate . went to the next tray. empty. next one. empty. next tray 3 – 4 pieces of cold pakoras… next few trays had pathetic excuse for vegetable curries… then came the«chicken tikka masala» with no chicken in sight, only orange gravy(but the server did add some bits of chicken later after we requested) …and they had a very unappealing goat curry which I didnt try. and then everything else was empty. no deserts no appetizers.(unless you count that one piece of cold pakora left on the tray) We had already grabbed a plate and had some food in it so it would’ve been very rude to just leave. we ate the buffet, or what was left of it atleast… and paid the full price. the«chicken» curry and naan(which they served fresh. thank god) was good. and they had chai tea too but it wasnt that good. I’ve sworn to never come back again. After a horrible experience with Rajbhog and now Flavors of India, I am not sure if I want to try out new Indian restaurants around south Jersey :( dissappointed beyond comprehension.

don’t use the Belly app to get points. IT’S A SHAM. I get enough points for a free buffet and they scan the app all of a sudden all the points disappear but it’s says the buffet was redeemed but they would not give me any credit for it. I called back several times but he says no manager is there. Go to Mosoon people. The food is better.

Highly recommended. Great flavors, really nice spices, fresh food. The buffet was excellent. Chai tea came with the meal as well! The price was very reasonable and the service was very good. I will definitely be back here again when I’m in the area! 5 well deserved stars.

For novice Inidan food eaters, this was a perfect place to try some of the cuisine. We came with a friend who steered us in the right direction and our server was also able to answer all of our questions. We immediately got water and these little crisps with 3 chutneys. Our favorite, hands down was the mint chutney which left a very pleasant spicy tingle. Appetizers were vegetable samosas and chicken pakora(like the tastiest chicken nuggets ever!) I kept dipping the food into the chutney to add even more flavor. We all ordered our dishes thali style which means our main dish is surrounded by 5 – 6 little dishes of sides(daal, white rice, tomato soup, fruit pudding, chick peas and oh my lord, plenty of naan.) I had the chicken masala, my friends had a huge shrimp byriani dish and I think also a fish curry. We ate ourselves silly and had enough to bring home some leftovers. Service was attentive but not intrusive. It wasn’t terribly busy on a Wednesday evening(no buffet that night) but there were several larger parties that came in with beer or wine. I would definitely return.

My husband and I love Indian cuisine and hadn’t been to a place around here, and this got decent reviews so we checked it out last night. I’m allergic to dairy, so I told this to the waiter upon arriving. In what was a 5 page, lengthy menu, he pointed to one app I could have, and 3 dishes. One, chicken curry, another was warned to be super spicy, and another that said the chicken was marinated in yogurt(so that was obviously out). I pointed to a few I’ve had before that at other places didn’t have any dairy, and he said they all have it, even the side of vegetables that came with he said are cooked with milk, and all of the bread. I found this to be confusing since I’ve eaten a lot of Indian food with no dairy, and he pointed out so few dishes I could have. My husband asked if I wanted to leave, which I should have said yes, but I knew he was starving, so I just ordered the app(veggie samosas) and chicken curry. My husband ordered some spinach and lamb dish, which when he brought out, said I could eat some of the lamb, just not the sides. Which just means he didn’t tell me all the dishes I could/couldn’t have, which was disappointing. Other Indian restaurants don’t just tell me which ones do or dont have dairy(most dont in Indian cooking from where I’ve eaten), they then have gone through a togo menu and starred which ones I could have and then gave it to me to take home, so I could order take out from there as well(makes me wish we still lived at our old place!) Both of our meals were bland. Not a lot of spice in terms of flavor, and even though we asked for medium, no heat flavor either. Neither of us finished our meals or packaged them to go, we just left and ate at home. My husband ordered the meal that came with the sides and dessert, and they didn’t bring out the dessert. Sadly, we won’t be coming back here.

Buffet was great, always a steal at Indian places. Got chicken 65 for dinner and it was AWESOME. Very generous portions for everything. Coming from the Edison area, I had some high expectations for Indian food, but this place really held its own! Very happy to have it so close by.

The Flavors of India is our favorite local Indian restaurant. We usually go to the Sunday brunch buffet. Try the lamb or the curried goat. Our favorites also include the Paneer as well as the potatoes and peas that are flavored with a coconut sauce. You will be hard pressed to find better tandoori chicken or chicken biryani. Plenty of chutneys and various sauces from which to select and enhance your dining experience. Each delicacy on the buffet is labeled. For the new comer, it would be valuable to have a brief description of the dish, but again it is a buffet and you can have a little taste of any or everything and return to the selections that were most appealing. Service is always prompt and efficient. Servers pass by the tables with ardent attention to keeping water glasses full, and the naan basket refilled. The owner who is always present greets each customer and welcomes you like family. Lots of interesting and beautiful decorations on the walls including a map of India with regional food suggestions. The restaurant is extremely clean, however, the ceiling tiles in the woman’s restroom had quite a bit of water damage. This is a concern but did not reflect on the quality of the food or service. Should you be so inclined, this is a BYOB establishment. The spicy food stands up well to Singha(a thai beer selection). We have also been to Monsoon and Indie Blue, but like Flavors the best for the food and the other restaurants are good but tables too crowded together.

While driving on my way to our childs weekly soccer game I smelt the powerful aroma of curry and my stomach know it needed to find the source. Being an astronaut for space I dont have much time to eat at work so I decides to try out this place. After walking in I was greeted and sat down almost immediately, after ordering It took almost no time for my food to come and I could give them enough praise! Every item on their menu will make your mouth water but there is a few things they could improve on. First being the amount of bees in the restaurant, I can handle a few bees but it was almost unacceptable how many were just sitting there, almost none of them ordering anything. Also the lack of free wifi is the only thing makes this spot not a 5 star location. ALSOREALLYIMPORTANTBEFOREGOING! NEVERGOHEREBEFOREANYTHINGIMPORTANT! Trust me, youll know what I mean, I wish I knew this before coming here… Those soccer moms can be so mean sometimes.

I went for the lunch buffet a few years ago. I went on the later side and they didn’t have a lot of food out. The food that they did have out was decent in flavor, but the ambience wasn’t that great. For Indian food, I prefer Monsoon, which is also on Rt. 38.

Unbelievable! Just when we thought we had tried all the best places in the area(Indeblue, Nimit, Monsoon, Rajbhog) we found this. First, we started off with a masala dosa as an appetizer. It was so flavorful and crispy. The chutneys were fresh and the Sambar(spicy) soup to dip it in was so warm and comforting. I had chicken tikka masala as my meal because, as the most entry level dish, I think it’s the best one to try in a new-to-you Indian restaurant. It was AMAZING. perfectly creamy and indulgent. The chicken was tender. My husband had paneer with peppers and onions and it was very fresh and tasty. The whole meal was delicious and we both left so excited that we found a new favorite Indian restaurant.

Scrumptious… I was in south jersey and my taste buds have been craving Indian food. This place seemed to have some really good reviews… the food was really fresh. I met the manager Chankar he was very nice and helpful. The spices… my tastebuds mmm the mango chutney spicy/salty/sweet should be bottled… tandoori chicken .no skin but good. Curry goat I was excepting to be spicy. Extremely tender but not much spicy… navaratan korma and chana masala is awesome great… and the mango pickle… I will definitely be back…

Based upon first visit for dinner had the paneer and lamb, generally OK — but nothing special as far as Indian restaurants go. Standard strip-mall location, interior is well laid out(better than pictures on their web-site). Staff/service is competent and polite, but nothing special. Food is OK if you’re after Indian, but nothing special for the price-point … frankly, seemed a little(not too much though) expensive for what it was. Will go again though, perhaps for lunch buffet, may upgrade to four stars if I find better options.

In the area for business, and decided to see if I could find some good Indian comfort food nearby. I work in the Edison area, so I’m pretty familiar with what great Indian food tastes like –but this place blows Edison out of the water! I opted for the chicken tikka masala(spice level hot, not Indian hot) and it was amazing! Absolute perfect blend of creaminess from the yogurt, tomatoes and the heat level was spot on! Spicy enough to enjoy the Indian spices, but not too spicy where you can’t enjoy it because your taste buds are on fire. The garlic naan was soft and fluffy, exactly the way I like it. Perfect garlic flavor without having to bite into big chunks of raw garlic which can be very unpleasant. Good portion sizes, and even better prices. Took it to go, and will definitely be returning for some more!

My dining experience at Flavors of India was FANTASTIC! First of all, I’d like to thank the Unilocalers who provided pictures of their food with their reviews. The pics are what lured me in… and Flavors of India delivered! We thought we were going for the buffet, but found out when we got there that there was no buffet that night. We stayed anyway. I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and my fiancé ordered Lamb Vindaloo. We also had garlic naan and mango lassis. My food was phenomenal. I never tasted my finance’s because I don’t eat lamb, but he said his food was excellent as well. The service was excellent. My finance’s dish was really spicy, and the waiter came over and checked on him, almost in amazement that he was actually able to eat it. When my fiancée commented that he loves spicy food and eats it all the time, our waiter challenged him by asking him if he wanted to taste something even spicier. Of course, my fiancée said yes. When the waiter returned(with a co-worker), he had a cup of red sauce with him. He told my fiancée to taste it, but to only take a little bit because it was THAT spicy. When he finally tasted it, we all got a good laugh over his facial expression. It was a lot of fun. The food was top notch, but that kind of service absolutely guarantees that we will be back.

Mediocre indian food. The lunch buffet features bland and boring food and the selection is limited. I had no desire to go back for seconds. The naan I received was also burnt so any presence of ghee was overwhelmed by the charring on the bread. Also, management is just rude as they do not honor their own certificates adding exclusions on a whim(the buffet doesn’t qualify). This is not the way you should treat your customers. At least have the decency to specify what you are not willing to discount. I recommend you go to Monsoon instead. Their food is far more superior and they actually treat their customers well.

Goodness, Flavors of India is good. My friend and I had a craving for Indian food and I redeemed a certificate awhile back after seeing all the good reviews(and they gladly took it!). Finally made it to dinner here and what a treat it was. I’ve been to Indian restaurants in Queens, I lived near Edison for awhile and stopped by Monsoon down the road before. But none were quite like Flavors of India. The service was wonderful and food was worth it! Got a sizzling plate paneer and veggie appetizer to share but I don’t think we knew what was coming when we ordered thali! Lots of wonderful small dishes and quite an amazing main course. I love bhindi masala(stewed okra) and they got it spot on. With such an expansive menu, they keep it all too notch. Looking forward to coming back!

We have a three options for quality Indian food in our area. Flavors of India is certainly the most affordable and offers a nice variety of interesting menu options. They have a good lunch buffet as well. We have eaten here about 6 or 7 times now and have never been disappointed. Food quality: excellent. Serving size: you will leave with a doggy bag. Atmosphere: about what you would expect for a restaurant in a strip mall. Staff: excellent, knowledgeable, and helpful(almost too helpful). Price: varies. You can expect to spend between $ 18 and $ 25 per person, depending on your selection of entrée or if you get appetizers. Liquor license: No, and we have never seen anyone with BYOB. Cautions:(1) Expect an overly-attentive staff.(2) They seem overly cautious about your selection in spice level.(3) If you are not a fan Ballywood musicals, you might not enjoy the atmosphere. The local Indian population appears to favor this restaurant. That is always a good sign when selecting a restaurant for ethnic cuisine.

Not bad, but not great. Food selection is somewhat limited, entrance smells quite unpleasant. Water tastes like a swimming pool. OK for a quick stop if you haven’t had real Indian food in a while. Do stop by for the buffet — $ 10 will get you a hefty meal.

When it comes to meeting up with my Vegan-leaning daughter and her man for a meal out it seems that locating a good Indian restaurant is always at the top of our list. This Saturday late afternoon rendezvous was destined to be relatively convenient to the City of Brotherly Love so the search was on. We scratched one place from our GPS menu finder based on a familial stomach churning experience. One never knows but it’s always safe to try something new rather than risk the possibility that a homeward thrill ride might be an added bonus of that one particular eatery. Our roulette wheel of choices was narrowed down to major highway location, intriguing name, and some positive reviews. FLAVORS of INDIA in a typical all American shopping plaza would be the Indian option of the night. It was a cold cold night and we arrived to find the restaurant just awakening to their evening service time. We had made reservations, which were gratefully confirmed and the hostess took us to our round table, which was set for five. Little did we know that within 45 minutes those reservations would make a lot of sense because this is a very popular restaurant. The wait staff were attentive and friendly. But my one major distraction, which also has lowered this rating from a 4 ½ and maybe just maybe a 5 star was the fact that the dining area was dare I say it … cold. And, I never am cold. It’s not that I was shivering but there was a level of debate as to whether coats should be left on or off. Yes, this is a big restaurant and the dining area opens to the cold blustery winds but perhaps heat it up before your diners arrive. Hot tea was ordered and certainly helped! We began to notice amazingly delicious aroma’s from neighboring dining tables as food was delivered. Presentations was A+ and the portions were ample. I know one of the reasons we settled on the Flavors of India is the fact that every meal can be morphed into a THALI for just $ 2.00 more so we eyed the thali’s with lustful enthusiasm. Our dining partners arrived and we opted for two appetizers. Our waiter carefully encouraged a double order of the veggie samosa and we went all out with the mixed pakora. Perhaps the appetizers were a mistake … they were filling and so good! The chutney options were all very tasty with a table wide debate as to which was the best. The papdum kept coming and we were even served a delightfully light version that melted in our mouths. Our entrees plus Thali were all very good … there were some trades happening though since I cannot stand eggplant in any form so I made a trade for the yellow lentils(In my mind an unfair trade that I got the better of but others claimed the eggplant mix tasted good.). The soup of the day was tomato, which had a wonderful taste to it. The meat eaters in the group chose Butter Chicken, Chicken Marsala, and my choice Kadai Chicken. The plant eaters went with the Tadka Daal asking for as much heat at possible but the poor waiter said the Daal cannot be prepared«Indian Hot» but that he would provide hot chilis for them. The entrees were enormous and delicious … the heat seekers were pleased with their Daal’s. The Thali’s creamy lucious pudding dessert was all we needed to complete the meal. And, we headed out into the cold evening bellies full and warmed all over thanks to the delicious food of the FLAVORS of INDIA. * A side note, service was excellent. In fact, they kept apologizing to us that they were so busy and not giving us the attention we deserved but the truth is they were all wonderful to us.
