Boy was I excited to find a dedicated embroidery shop in Mount Horeb! I found myself a wee bit disappointed that they focus on cross stitch very heavily over other types of surface embroidery, but the supplies they offer are generally good for any style. If you are into cross stitch they offer what appears to be a truckload of kits with varying difficulty and size. I love this place because it offers SOMANY types of embroidery floss! Surface fabrics! Tools! Notions! It’s a beautiful thing for those who wield a needle. The women who own and staff the shop are friendly as can be, and full of information. If you have a technique question, or want to chat about your project, they’ll happily accommodate you. The shop is clean and well lit but maybe a little crowded. Still, it’s amazing how much time you can spend just looking at all they managed to pack into a relatively small shop. Even after two visits I’m sure I haven’t noticed everything they offer. I haven’t asked yet, but I’d be surprised if they couldn’t order something specific if it’s not in stock.(I’ll try to remember to ask and update after my next visit — as well as some cost comparison.) They do have a clearance area as well. Without having done a serious cost comparison I can’t say for sure if their prices match the place where I tend to pick up most of my other crafty things. However, the wide variety of supplies beats any other option that I’ve checked out in the surrounding area, including some specialty options that I’d otherwise have to order online. Maybe the large chain stores in Madison have similar offerings, but I try not to give them my business if I can avoid it. So, while there may be other options in the area for basic embroidery supplies, I prefer to spend my dollars at a small shop that offers a great variety. Unfortunately, I can’t give you any suggestions on how not to give them more of those dollars than you may have intended. I find it difficult to resist some fun and new thread that I’ve never played with before, or some interesting find from the clearance bin.

I love the store and the people who run it. There’s a wonderful older lady who can always answer my questions about needlepoint or cross-stitch. They have canvases, yard, perle cotton, embroidery floss, patterns, etc. Worth a trip if you cross-stitch, embroider, or needlepoint.
