My husband, son and I come to cornerstone every Sunday for breakfast it’s a family tradition at this point. Two weeks our breakfast was not warm and our waitress forgot about us and made us feel that our order was not as important as the big table beside us, but we chalked it up to a busy morning and a bad day. This week I and two of my friends went in for lunch, I ordered waffle fries. What I got was not what I expected. I explained(or attempted to explain) to the waitress that I messed up and did not want the fries(due to them being under cooked and not seasoned) Without saying anything she took the fries from the table and threw them away. She proceeded to talk to a coworker about me while I could still see and hear her. She didn’t come back to our table for a while and when she did my friend asked for more salsa. The request was met with a snide snort and«sure» where she and her coworker again within site and ear shot of us talked about us and pointed. When the waitress(a different one) came back she noticed we had Unilocal open on our phones and suddenly everyone was very kind and our waitress was MIA. This was the last straw. My family is done with this restaurant.

Had been a regular of Cornerstone for the past two yrs. This is the second time my home fries were half cooked, over medium eggs under cooked and the toast was hard. After a few bites I complained. They offered to take $ 2.00 off. I only saw the waitress once. My husband’s potatoes also undercooked. Really disappointed as I thought we had finally got a decent restaurant in town.

Good down home cooking, not a lot of low cal stuff here! If you like fried bologna, eggs, bacon and home made puddings and cakes, this is the place.

Sausage gravy and biscuits hit the spot this morning. Service was quick for a busy Sunday morning.

My husband and I drive 25 minutes to go to this café. This is a no frills small town restaurant which is what we like about it. The staff has always been very friendly and the food is good. We have tried a lot of different things on the menu and we have enjoyed 95% of our choices. They serve breakfast all day and their omelettes are great and they’re bigger than the plate. Our favorite sandwich is the patty melt with a side of onion rings. Try it, you might like it!

What one should expect from a small town, mom and pop diner. Friendly wait staff. Great breakfast available all day at a decent price. It was relatively busy on a Saturday evening, but they seemed to keep up with demand well. I would visit again.

A seat yourself diner, took a moment to get service. Once we got service, everything was fast and super friendly. Appetizer was out fast, food was out fast. Clearly homemade, they use iPad order taking system to make things super efficient. Food was top notch. Wife had club sandwich and potato soup. I had pork chop platter and baked potato. We shared beer battered zucchini appetizer. It was fantastic. Will stop here again.

Food is usually good. However the wait staff needs training and direction. Usually have to wait awhile to get service as well.

Cornerstone has been one of my favorite stops since moving to the area. There are no frills to be sure, but this is a comfortable, homey diner that serves giant helpings of delicious, from-scratch cooking. Breakfast is my favorite time to visit, and I always get the same breakfast for $ 4.79: 2 eggs, home fried potatoes, and a biscuit with sausage gravy. It’s just that good. The biscuit is hot, light and tender and the sausage gravy is just like your grandma made, if you were so lucky. My son likes to get a big bowl of oatmeal with all the fixings. I order coffee or hot tea to drink and my cup is always full. My husband took the kids one night and told me that the $ 9.99 Prime Rib dinner, which is legendary around here, was one of the best he’s ever had. If you go, make sure you have enough cash on hand(there’s a Chase ATM right across the street). They don’t accept credit cards for orders under $ 20 and like many small-town businesses, it’s preferable to pay cash because of credit card fees. One more thing: there’s a table of regular gentlemen and I always enjoy catching snippets of conversation. It reminds me of my grandpa and the town where I grew up.

Stopped back in for dinner, and was pleasantly surprised, there was some local people playing guitars on a open mic night. They had a good variety of music, it was very relaxing .The pizza was delicious. The server Gina was busy, and had it all in control.

As a new resident to this beautiful small town — I just knew we had to find that perfect down home breakfast place — and Cornerstone is our new weekend tradition. The breakfast skillet, breakfast sandwiches, Crème Brûlée French Toast, and traditional biscuits and gravy are all amazing — just to name a few. If you’re having a cheat day — be sure to order a Cinnamon Roll — they cut them in half and warm them on the grill so they have a delicious slight buttery crunch. Ask for Michelle — she was so sweet and one if the best waitresses we’ve ever had. It can get crowded, especially on the weekends at breakfast — but there’s always a group of older gentlemen regulars that will squeeze over and lend you a chair :)

4 words: Crème Brulee French Toast. Stopped by after visiting the State Park and was very happy we did. We chose to eat breakfast for lunch. I had the Crème Brulee French Toast and it is delicious. My boyfriend had the ribeye, eggs and hash browns. Ribeye cooked properly and seasoned wonderfully. Would go back again, worth the drive. Staff very nice and informative.

If you rate the place by the breakfast service which gives you a good picture of the«cooking» that goes on — fail. Under cooked eggs, way under cooked eggs and undercooked hash browns means there are much better places for the meal that starts the day. My favorite thing — ordering scrambled eggs and they come out as a ‘sheet of eggs’, kinda like a rubbery pale yellow dish rag. Who in the hell serves eggs like that? One time the owner happened by and was pissed i sent the eggs back and then got basically bitched at or schooled about the ways to cook eggs in the different styles. Here is the trick, cook them correctly like other diners throughout the land and i don’t give a rat’s ass about cooking styles. He really does determine the overall mood here and it not very welcoming. Period. If you wander around the state, you can see a pattern — the little mom/pop restaurants are ‘food places for the elderly’ and therefore, the food is not seasoned at all which is typical here. i was told once they are not allowed to salt and pepper the food. That AMAZES me, like the point of stunning. Props to the wait staff, pleasant, cool(like GIna) and like to get things right and you can tell their frustration with the back of the house and the basic vibe.

I had to attend a meeting and this place went from a «lunch of convienence» to a place I’ll be visiting whenever I happen to be in Mt. Gilead during lunch or breakfast. This is one of those kind of place you just love supporting because everyone associated with the restaurant works there. The owner makes the soups fresh and the Chicken and Gnocchi($ 1.95) was downright amazing. The gnocchi was frozen but the broth was so good that it was very easy to overlook that. Talking to cook he strongly recommended I come back on Friday night for the Prime Rib($ 9.95) meal that the owner is also known for making. Well I’ll be back to give it a shot for sure!

Great service in a typical small town atmosphere. I come here with my grandfather every time I am home. They know everyone by name, their food is great, and the prices are decent. Places like this make me miss being home.
