I have been waiting 16 years for this memorial to be built and dedicated. I was up there a few weeks ago and was blown away. There is actually two features to the memorial. There is the Cold War portion which is the big granite structure and about 50 feet away is a full propeller from USAF Flight 9068 mounted to a large rock.
I was there on a day one of the Docents was giving tours and telling us the history of the plane crash in 1955 and its secret mission serving Area 51.
Here are some tidbits you won’t know about unless I tell you.
The propeller is pointed directly at Area 51, the original destination of the flight. There are 14 rocks around the Flight 9068 Memorial representing the 14 souls. There are 14 trees around the Cold War Memorial for the 14 souls. There is a vault under the memorial containing parts of the aircraft and personal items submitted by the families. Inside the visitor center there is a hidden U-​2 spy plane.
This is a great historical site.
