We decided to go off to my. Airy as there was supposed to be some festival according to the events going on this weekend. We had intended to eat at snappie’s for a world famous pork chop sandwich, but sadly they closed at 1:15pm… Hmmmm. So we were hungry and saw Barneys diner! Well, we both decided on the grilled cheese with a bowl, of soup, mine was broccoli & cheese, my husband had the beef vegetable. We were told that they were both home made. Sounds good right? NOT. The soups were Luke warm if that and the broccoli and cheese, well, I saw nor tasted any cheese and my husband said that his tasted like canned soup. The grilled cheese… l Baaahhhaaaaa! Really? The slice of cheese wasn’t even melted into the dried out bread that tasted like it was thrown right on the grill covered in the left over grease, no butter… Not… Will never go there again. Not to mention the attitude of blonde at the cash register, we were in line to pay, she saw us, and right when it was our turn to pay, she turns and walks away… Excuse me!!! Then sees us again, comes back and says can I help you! Well, yeah my husband says, we’d like to pay the bill. Thanks lady. Very rude attitude, very crappy food. Not a stop in our future.

A slightly below average diner. Everything seemed to be of grade school cafeteria quality, simple white buns, frozen patties, what you would buy to feed a lot of people cheap. You’re in a small town with limited options, and it’s what I have come to expect when in that situation. Going in with zero quality expectations and it will be good enough. It beats a Taco Bell or Hardee’s at the interstate, though, that’s why you drove here. It was really inexpensive, though.

We ordered breakfast here, ate one or two bites, paid our bill, about $ 20.00 and left to go find somewhere else to eat… it’s that bad. In fact, its the worst breakfast I’ve had, hands down. I ordered scrambled eggs because no matter where you go, its difficult to screw up a scrambled egg… but they did. It was dry and had an odd taste to it. I ordered country ham. It was overcooked and I couldn’t get the fork into it. The biscuits were old and fell apart in my hands. The grits were so hot they were smoking and I was hungry and didn’t have time to wait for them to cool off.
To top all this off, the waitress, a young woman, was miserable in her life and career and decided we were the fault for all that’s wrong in her life. You know what? Just avoid this place.

The Bluebird Diner was recommended but unfortunately it’s closed and for sale. Since we were in the land of «Mayberry» we decided we needed to eat in Barneys. We ordered hamburgers and they were fresh not frozen patties which were very good. The fries are typical crinkle cut and the onion rings were good. Atmosphere was fun.

Quaint little local place, great if you want a place that’s reliably good every time you go. The food options don’t get too fancy, but it’s like eating at home(if you could cook really well).

Barney Fife never ate here and neither should you. It was packed so we tried it. It’s not awful. But be sure to check Unilocal _before_picking a restaurant in Mt. Airy.

Very quaint & enjoyable experience on Main Street! Classic American diner with cakes on display at the counter. We had friendly service(even during the hectic & crowded Mayberry Days) and we all enjoyed our food. Between the 4 of us, we ordered grilled cheese, a turkey club, a chicken salad sandwich, & a burger. Definitely seems like a place that Sheriff Andy & Barney would have had lunch back in the old days. Also very reasonable prices! If you go during Mayberry Days and the line seems out the door, don’t immediately think you’ll wait forever. There’s some unseen seats in the back and we didn’t wait any time at all, even when the line seemed«out the door.»

A cute little diner. Very reasonable for a quick bite. Only thing it is cash only. I am sure that is why the cost of dining is so reasonable. Food is fresh and hot. It looks like a diner out of the 50’s, 60’s. Brings back childhood memories of what it was about to eat out. Highly recommend for a nice lunch.

Really unhappy with our lunch there. Pricing is super cheap, but still didn’t make it worth eating. French fries weren’t fried, but came out of the oven lukewarm and soggy. The burger was tasteless with the cheese not even melted. The deviled eggs were just sad. Not worth it.

I forgot to review this place when we went there last year but I thought I would go ahead and post it anyways. Great hamburgers. It’s right downtown in Mt. Airy. We didn’t expect much because of the touristy vibe of downtown but we were pleasantly surprised! I got the cheeseburger with all the fixings which only cost $ 3.50! It was a really great burger. Fresh veggies(lettuce, tomato, onions, pickle) as fixings with a nice sized patty. Delicious. We got onion rings as a side and they were also excellent. Large slices of onion dipped in beer battered, freshly fried.
