Was headed to Monterey Bay Aquarium but my gps decided to take me here instead lol! Instead of leaving we decided to go out and explore. The bay was real big. There were more groups of people there, a few fishing. They were many things to look at such as shells, boats, cool rocks to climb on and even things washed ashore. My sister got loads of great shots on her GoPro. Would come for photographs here.

On 9÷26÷2015 went there to catch a whale watching cruise. Plenty of parking and $ 7 is reasonable but I marked it 1 star because the public restroom near Sea Goddess Whale Watching office was filthy and disgusting. Basically, a health hazard. Either switch to porta potties or clean the public facilities.

Great junction right before the 156 and 1 merge to head towards Monterey. Great marina with friendly people, lots of parking, and open space. The boats here are kept clean and the sea lions sunning themselves on the walkways are a fun sight. Given that they are protected, please respect their space. For parking, make sure you go almost all the way down the parking strip and pay $ 7 at the Harbor Master’s office and display the decal on your car. This is also close to the mouth of the Elkhorn Slough so a lot of tours depart from here as well as out onto Monterey Bay.

Strolled here after lunch at Phil’s Fish Market. Saw some people fishing and people hanging about. It was a bit cool and breezy. Suddenly saw a man’s torso half way up from the sand. The man was apparently sitting down but couldn’t see most of his body. Decided to look closer and saw the man with this women lying down below ground level. They have managed to dig out the sand and created a large pit to lie down inside. I guess it’s much warmer that way. Beautiful day, gorgeous weather, just can’t get any better.

We just drove by the harbor to spot some sea lions and take video of them. Our friends were very excited to be this close to seeing something in their natural state of nature. Lovely place to see these animals in their natural habitat.

Great for puppy socialization with sea lions to stand next to(with gate in between), the piers to look at jellyfish right next to us, sea otters very close for viewing… always fun! Right off Hwy 1, near the beach.

The Harbor District spans multiple different areas. I’ve only ever made a stop off at the area where the decorative pot shop, kayak and seafood restaurant is at. Depending on where you stop and how long you are in the area, paying for parking is required. Over by the kayak shop there are public restrooms, a public launch for motor boats and kayaks, and over by the restaurant area, you can park and watch the California Sea Lions. It’s almost a sure bet that they’ll be hanging out there and you get a pretty up close view and it’s usually not very crowded. Definitely a place to stop for recreation if you’re in the area, looks like an awesome place to launch a kayak from too.
