For only being open during the week, you would expect the best of quality and best of service. I frequented this place off and on throughout the years here while going through school. It was a good sandwich shop, but that is all really I could say. The service was moderate, but when they were busy, the wait could become quite long quite quickly. The sandwiches are really nothing remarkable out of the ordinary, which is good if you are looking for a standard sandwich to have in case your forgot to make lunch. The stax sauce, was also fairly disappointing. It was a mixture of mayonnaise and horseradish, but unfortunately a little too heavy on the mayonnaise percentage. This place is good, if you can get to them while they are open. I am giving them three stars simply because they truly were ‘A-Ok’ not better nor worse, but a good place for lunch.

Delicious! I put off trying this place for a long time because I thought the prices were a little steep, but once I did, I realized it’s because the sandwiches are HUGE! A large sandwich practically feeds two. The Vandal Club is my absolute favorite. I get it every time. Be prepared for a bit of a wait, though(and no real place to stand waiting). The staff make the sandwiches a bit slowly and sometimes stand around chatting. I once placed an order by phone and they said it would be ready for pickup within 15 minutes, but when I showed up 20 minutes later, they hadn’t even started making it yet(and the restaurant had only two patrons inside). The taste is definitely worth the wait, though. Yummmmmm.

Great sandwich shop to stop by for lunch. I used to go here for lunch while in college and loved it. It was all freshly made right there. My favorite was the Vandal Club — I never picked anything different. It was a hot sandwich with turkey, ham, bacon, mayo, and a couple different cheeses. I now live in Seattle area and wish there was a place this good close by. Staff was always friendly and outdoor seating was great to sit in during the sunshine. Minimal chairs inside so you have to wait a couple minutes sometimes but go a little after noon and you’re set to go!

If you happen to be in Moscow, ID, this is a great place for lunch. Everything is made fresh. I had a crab and swiss on sourdough & it was so good I wanted to go back and have another. The folks I was with also loved their food. It is a small restaurant but if you had to wait in line, it would be well worth it!

this place is tiny but the sammiches are mongo sized. i couldn’t eat it all. i should have gotten a half. i went with the gobbler, which was dang tasty. it’s a good deal, but there isn’t much seating inside and the layout makes the entrance pretty congested. i’ll have to remember stax the next time i’m in the area and needing a quick bite.

I’m obsessed. If I could I’d eat the Skinny Tinny all day every day! Love the small space, the outdoor seating is perfect, and the servers are always friendly. I’m never disappointed when I order to go because there is always a smile drawn on the bag! :)

Tried this place today. Ordered a club and my wife ordered the gobbler. Staff was friendly but I’ve never seen someone work so slowly! The price was also a little steep per sandwich and the giant bread size made for a fairly unmanageable mess when trying to eat. My club was extremely greasy and mostly consisted of meat and some sort of melted cheese mayonnaise mess with no veggies or toppings whatsoever. I tried my wife’s gobbler and it was okay but nothing to write home about. Their potato chips weren’t bad and I always love a pickle spear on the side, which they provide! If, IF I go back, I will order better, and go for the half sandwich. The full size is too big and too expensive. Not worth the trip from Pullman to Moscow however.

So great! Moscow needed a good sandwich shop and you’ve succeeded. Everything I’ve had here is great. Wonderful place to go for lunch.

In the mood for a sandwich, soup, or salad? Stax is the place to go! Conveniently located next to the Student Union Building and a 5 minute walk from downtown Moscow. The sandwiches are the finest I have tasted in Moscow! They are made with locally baked bread from a Moscow bakery and loaded with fresh ingredients. My favorite is the Skinny Tinny or the Holiday, which both include cream cheese as a dressing. A small sandwich is equal to a regular sized sandwich. The soups though are what I crave! The taco or chili soup will never let you down. Served with a side of bread and made with fresh ingredients every day. These daily rotated soups will add a variety to your lunch plate. I gave this restaurant a four due to prices as a small sandwich with chips and a pickle averages around $ 6 to $ 8. Also, it can get crowded at times as it is a small location, but I have always found room to sit with friends.

I’m going to give them another chance, cause I’ve rarely heard anything bad and perhaps I caught them at a bad time, but my sandwich left much to be desired. Especially when it says it comes with turkey and there was very little to be found. I had the Holiday sandwich, which just sounded like the most amazing thing ever. It had cranberry cream cheese and turkey and tomato and lettuce and sprouts. However, I barely could find any turkey. And the sandwich was about three or four inches tall… but it was all«fluff». The entire sandwich was sprouts! They were a little slimy and funky and I did not really enjoy the sandwich much. Maybe if it was on harder bread, because it did get soggy very quickly. Or if it was toasted(and the ratio of sprouts to turkey was reversed). I’ll be going back to try other things, especially because the size was pretty darn good(my sandwich was ginormous). However, I don’t suggest the holiday if you don’t like a morbid amount of sprouts.

The owners are really nice, and the service is great. Delicious soups, salads and sandwiches, all served with chips and a pickle spear. The place is pretty small, so expect a little bit of a line if you go during the lunch hour. The space is bright, cheerful and clean. My favorite lunch spot in Moscow. It’s a little on the pricey side, but for the service, I’m willing to pay. The only thing that would improve it would be some gluten-free options. Unless you plan to split your sandwich, order a small. The sandwiches are HUGE(and delicious). For a healthy option packed with veggies, try the Skinny Tinney.

This place is friggin’ delicious. The fiancé and I wanted a quick lunch between classes one day, and friends recommended this place. Now, we’re not usually the type of couple who splits things. We both eat a lot so splitting plates normally is dissatisfying. So when our friends told us we’d be fine splitting a large sandwich, we were pretty skeptical, thinking they must not understand our appetites. But the sandwiches here are HUGE. We split a Vandal Club, and our ‘halves’ were bigger than a whole sandwich you’d make yourself at home, by far. And it was jam-packed with warm meats and melty cheese, and the bread was all grilled and buttery… and oh good heavens, it was amazing. And it came with a pickle spear, which gets major credit in my book.

Sandwiches are huge, but the store is tiny. Very clean and well done. A great place to get a sandwhich if your hungry. A half size sammy is larger than most regulars. And a full size is a warrior. Try the Fat Tenney or the cranberry turkey.

For the price the sandwich was really bad. I asked for toasted bread for the BLT and got it grilled. They didn’t warn me that toasted meant grilled. It was too greasy. The bacon was not tasty and undercooked. It was a big sandwich but really bad. The vandal Club that my husband had was also grilled & I thought a club always had tomato & lettuce. This had too much meat and it wasn’t quality meat either. We’ll never go back.

Stax was desperately needed here. Like Jay says, it is a bit pricey, but the portions are huge. The French dip is great, perhaps the best I’ve ever had, and the Ruben decent, but I’m picky about Rubens. All of the other sandwiches I’ve tried are good, too. There is popcorn to munch on while you wait(or to put in your soup), and service is friendly without being intrusive, and reasonably quick, even when they are slammed. The newish outdoor seating is ideal on a student-free summer day.

Stax has great service and awesome food. When I first visited and checked out the menu, I thought it was a little pricey for a sandwich place; but you totally get more than enough food for what you pay. The sandwiches are gigantic and come with chips, and the homemade soup is great. Awesome new addition to Moscow!
