This place is delicious. The buffet is great and even my boys ask for the«red chicken.» and nom it all up. They do an excellent service and for mother’s day gave me a beer or wine with my buffet lunch(a nice touch). Easy parking, nice servers and child-friendly. With lots of choices around here, I would highly recommend Tava.

I went to Tava on a Tuesday night, and despite some of the reviews here, found the service prompt and very attentive. I was extremely pleased with the lamb vindaloo I ordered, which was respectably spicy and very tasty. If you like your food on the mild side, they can certainly accommodate you. Just let them know when you order. Right now I would consider this my favorite Indian restaurant. A very pleasant place to enjoy a meal.

Oh my God. I am leery of reviews that are over the top but this restaurant is phenomenal. I came here with my husband and his cousins. Every dish we ordered was delicious. Other Unilocal reviewers said that service tended to be slow so we had the«Tava Signature Sizzlers» as an appetizer which had a nice variety of kabobs and samosas along with warm and fluffy garlic nan to tide us over until we got our entrees. It was large enough to share among the four of us. They have an extensive menu including a lot of vegetarian dishes. I’m not a vegetarian but I think I could become one if everything tasted this good. I had Malai Kofta, vegetable balls, in a creamy almond and cashew sauce. The name doesn’t do it justice. It had an earthy texture and a velvety sauce, perhaps a little too sweet, perhaps not. My husband had Lamb Vindaloo, very tender and spicy HOT, which he loved but we were too timid to taste. One cousin had the Indian staple, Tandoori chicken, which was tender and succulent. Our other cousin had Chicken Shahi Korma, chicken in a creamy almond sauce. I thought it was too bland but she ordered it extra mild and liked it. They had a nice selection of desserts but the portions were generous and we were too full. We came on a Tuesday evening. The restaurant was empty so we were seated right away. It did start to fill up and get busy. The servers were very attentive but our dinner took over 30 minutes to arrive. Everything tasted as though it was freshly made so we didn’t mind the wait. I can understand why you would have to wait an hour for your food on a very busy night. I recommend ordering appetizers. Our bill came to $ 160.00 for the four of us including a 20% tip. That was with two glasses of wine and a few beers. We thought it was well worth it for the food, ambience and service. This is officially my favorite Indian restaurant now.

Our experience here was characterized by(our own) confusion and unexpectedly long waits. We decided last minute on a Saturday night to indulge in some Indian food for dinner, and living in the neighborhood and liking to support local businesses, I suggested Tava. We didn’t have a reservation, but as we came to observe, you’ll still have to wait even if you do have one. Arrived, and it took almost 10 minutes for someone to come over and take our name and quote the wait time. I guess there is no official host, and the staff can play multiple roles at this restaurant. Got quoted a 20 – 25 minute wait time, which for us was fairly accurate til the time we were seated, but a party who arrived after us was quoted a 15 minute wait time by another staffer, so that didn’t make sense. As we were waiting for our table, we had plenty of time to ponder over such topics as whether to have 1 or 2 entrees of the butter chicken, dining in suburbia, and the organization and efficiency of how parties were seated at Tava… or lack thereof. Each arriving group was asked if they had a reservation or not; most didn’t. The really confusing part is that throughout our visit to Tava, there ranged anywhere from 5 – 7 open tables. How does that make sense? I’m curious to know what the business rationale is behind that, especially with 3 – 4 groups waiting in the doorway area at prime time dinner time. We noticed that both a couple arriving early for their reservation AND a couple who arrived over 10 minutes tardy for theirs had to wait a good 10 – 15 minutes before being seated… yep, even with those 5 – 7 unoccupied tables. A few parties bailed after learning of the wait time. That’s lost business, if you ask me. Ordered our food at 7:40pm, but the cold cracker(sorry, don’t know the official name) basket didn’t come until a good 10 minutes later. Thanks to Unilocal,we cashed in on a complimentary plate of mixed vegetable pakora(like battered, fries veggies), and we noshed on those around 8:00. But geez, the food was FINALLY served a full hour after we ordered. Food wise, the star of the night was definitely the piping hot, flavorful and soft garlic naan. Chicken makhani is a favorite in our household, but this version was too sweet and tomato-y for our taste buds; we wanted more butter! Saag paneer(spinach and cottage cheese) was standard, and as for the chicken jalfrezie, I got a lot more peppers than I was bargaining for and was searching for the chicken. My comment on the basmati rice is that it was barley lukewarm, which was disappointing. All in all, we won’t return. Service was minimal(just the standard take-your-order, one check-in once food arrived, and bill delivery visits), and I can tell you 3 other Indian restaurants I’d visit before this one again in the blink of an eye.

I called around 1.30pm to say 3 of us were coming in for buffet and enquired what time they close and I was informed last seating will be 2.30pm. Our conference went overtime and I absolutely wanted my bosses to try Tavas Indian food. So I got there around 2.45pm and Deepa was very sweet and had me seated; can you believe the entire staff stayed overtime to accommodate my request to let my workmates dine there??(hats off to the team and owners!!) I preordered so when the others joined me, it was about 3.30pm and they served us the delicious warm food without delay. Everyone loved the food. Will be coming back for more!

Very poor customer service. It’s a shame because their food is quite good. My entrée came 25 minutes later than my partner’s entrée and only because I had to push for it. It came about 50 minutes from when we originally ordered. No one checked on us after his entrée came, we kept waiting, and my nan and his food got cold. I had to flag our original waiter down, who gave me a surly ‘Yes? Oh, your food is coming.’ It turns out the food wasn’t coming. He had never placed the order. The hostess came over to blame him: he forgot to enter my order into their computer. Bottom line, there was no concern for the customer or the status of your meal. And you still pay in full. I told them I was disappointed as we exited, but they just stared with blank faces. It almost seems like they were asking for a Unilocal review.

If there was a place for ten stars, I would’ve given it to @Tava. Tava is by far the best Indian food in the area — perhaps the nation. Each dish was flavorful and complex. All I can say is this is an incredible find. «I will be back» as Arnold says.

A blowout of savory spices, oozing with delicious flavors and an explosion of appetizing aromas… This is how I describe every dish I have tried at TAVA tonight. It’s my first time at TAVA and I’m glad that my friend mentioned this place to try out for a Friday dinner. I called to make reservations a day before and I highly suggest to make the call. There was a line of people waiting when I got in at 7pm tonight(Friday). They have an extensive menu of dishes ranging from Vegetarian dishes, Chicken, Lamb, Goat, Tandoori and the Rice & Naan choices as well. They also have set menu dinner for 2 people, 4 and more. My friend and I decided to choose dishes from the A la Carte Menu because the dishes that are included in the set menus are mostly sweet(accdg to our server), and we both wanted hot and spicy dishes. Here are a few dishes I’ve tried: COMBINATIONBIRYANI $ 17 — I thought I was already in heaven… I kept saying«Oh my God, this is so good». That says it all. The basmati rice grains were mixed with big pieces of lamb, chicken and shrimps. The spices mixed in with the rice were spicy and savory. This dish alone can stand on its own. This is served with a cucumber raita yogurt on the side. VEGETABLEVINDALOO(Volcano Hot) $ 13– I wanted heat in my dish… Man oh man, did I get that heat! Delicious and hot! TAVACHILICHICKENMASALA $ 14– So flavorful and this is definitely a dish that will tickle your taste buds. I heart this! Overall, I loved all the dishes that I’ve tried. We also ordered Plain Naan and that was delicious…“wiping” off the sauce from my plate using the freshly made Naan, then savoring all the flavors. It was so good! 4.5 stars(if I had that choice) because of the so-so service. It was okay but it was slow. It was a busy night so it was really slow when we were seated and when my friend and I were busy chatting after an hour or so, we were approached 3 to 4 times to be asked if we were done. We felt rushed at this point. Maybe because there were still reservations that needed to be fulfilled for tonight. Other than that, I was very satisfied and happy with the delectable dinner I’ve had at TAVA. P. S. Orders will take between 25 – 30 minutes before the dishes are served to your table so don’t come here expecting to eat right away. The dishes are worth the wait though:)

Pretty damn good. One of the losses that my wife and I mourned when moving to the suburbs was close access to a wide variety of quality restaurants. Indian food was a high favorite, so I was happy when a colleague strongly recommended Tava. My experiences justify the recommendation with rare exceptions. I’ve had takeout from the dinner menu and the lunch specials, as well as the dine-in lunch buffet. First off, the chicken makhani is ambrosial. It’s so good that I don’t even mind that the dish is three-quarters sauce(when ordered a la carte). Soak that stuff up with rice or naan. On the down side, their fried calamari is atrocious. No flavor, rubbery, greasy. Blech. The tandoori chicken is good in the restaurant but even better cold from the fridge the next day. I also give a thumbs-up to the chana saag, the chana masala, the chicken tikka masala, the yellow dal, the plain saag… really almost everything is good. The buffet is better than you might expect; none of the food is too heavy or seems like it’s been sitting out. Vegetarians should do fine, as more than half the dishes eschew meat. Also, the second-best thing I’ve ever had from here was green beans in a coconut sauce. Mmm mmm mmm. It’s a little pricey to order off the main menu, especially for takeout. So I advise the buffet(obviously) or the lunch specials(for takeout) to capitalize on value. The latter comes with two small entrees, a boatload of rice, and a giant piece of naan. So either way, you get a ton of quality food for your bucks.

Really a gem of a restaurant among the lack of options around the area. More on the expensive side, but I think you are paying for the whole experience, so I say it’s worth it. Be prepared to wait. Worth the wait. I know a few people who have visited this restaurant complained about the wait because it takes time to cook it fresh. The food is really good. Spicy and flavorful. The tikki masala is well-made. Good naan. The atmosphere of the restaurant is lovely and calming. They sometimes have soft live music playing in the background which add to the«fine dining experience.» If you don’t want to eat there, they have an option for take out. I use that all the time. Service is attentive. I continue to come here time and time again.

Every entrée at this restaurant is at least $ 16+, it does not come with rice or bread. So just for some meat/vegetarian beans/spinach/potato it costs over $ 20? I am sorry but I can get a very nice meal somewhere else for that amount of money. I called in to the restaurant to confirm, I strictly said, «Hello, I’d like to verify if your entrees come with rice/bread please». Instead of answering me, the guy on the phone said«what do you want to order», I said«Lamb Madras», he said«No, it does not come with anything». OK, why couldn’t you have told me that when I first asked the question? Going in a loop. There are plenty of Indian options nearby for great food and a much more reasonable price.

This is a buffet place only. Avoid dinner due to bad service and random food ordering confusion. The waitress did tell us the food would take 30 min, it took 54 minutes so I guess colored people time applies. The food is decent but way too many spices. But as you can tell from my previous reviews, service is above all for me. The host was rude, even though I called the reservation ahead of time. The waitress seemed annoyed at all our small requests. We even went around her and asked the buzz boy, who rightfully seemed confused but then the waitress came back and said, well now he is getting it for you. Needless to say we did not get what we asked for. So again, buffet is ok but do not go to dinner.

Tava represents a tiny easily missed restaurant(visually) with excellent food inside. It’s a south indian style/himalayan/nepalese mix restaurant that represents some fusion of a few specific styles of indian food. On the awesome side, they have an AYCE buffet — a unique one with a few different options than are available on the menu. Their masala tea is pretty good, and all in all the choices here are delicious. Food here is indeed a little bit pricey, but quantity is beyond what people can conceivably eat — so there is that. Not only that, but it’s the kind of menu that is vegetarian friendly — which is crucial for me. This isn’t the #1 best Indian I’ve had because of the number of excellent options on Devon(Uru Swati/Udupi/Hema’s), but it definitely gives them a run for their money. Should you want good indian that’s not downtown, I think TAVA can handle that.

Best Indian food I’ve had in recent memory in the NW Chicago area. I had the Tava Spicy Lamb Masala, and tried the Boti Kabab(lamb), both of which were delicious, a great balance of spice and flavor. The lamb was tender. The Brad’s naan is excellent; I would recommend it. Garlic naan is also good(as always). There is a short bar with a granite countertop. Minimal beer selection(about four or so), but plenty of wine and several coctails that look delicious. The Indian Tart was very good(if you enjoy tart things, obviously). The lighting is perfect; not too bright, but a nice relaxing soft light. Tava is a small restaurant, so it develop a waitlist fairl quickly, but I have never need to wait more than 20 minutes, and you can usually get seated immediately.

Great food, friendly staff. Went there for a friends birthday dinner and everyone in the group enjoyed what they ate very much! Food is well seasoned and fresh. It takes a while for the food to be prepared after you order but I’d rather wait for a bit if it means the food is prepared fresh and not just heated and served to you quickly. The veggie samosas were delicious, as well as the Naan. I ordered a lentil dish that I really enjoyed, and the other three people loved their meals as well! We all said we definitely will be back there, my friend even mentioned that she sometimes orders take out from the Thai place next door, but now when she is in the area she’ll be ordering from Tava instead cause she liked it so much. Very nice to find an Indian restaurant not on Devon where it’s always crowded and hard to park. A rare find for a suburban place!

The food is excellent, however the service is hit or miss. It is much better if you dine in. I’ve ordered from here several times by calling in and placing online orders. If you call to place an order, they may or may not understand your order depending on who answers the phone and the wait time for an order is extremely long, so this isn’t the place for a quick lunch pick up. Also, if you are ordering for a large group, you might want to consider breaking up the order into smaller groups and having more than one person phone in the orders.

Really really good Indian food in this area – finally! I came in here expecting to have much needed Indian food fix and and stumbled in during lunch buffet. What a lovely surpise! AYCE for $ 11.99 and the food is delcious. They had brought out sizzling tandori chicken and fresh naan as soon as I sat with my first plate. They provided a good mixture of meat and vegetable dishes, even an array of fresh fruit to finish up the meal. Staff was professional and ambiance is perfect for a nice converstation or even a solo lunch. Definitely recommend.

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE experience!!! It’s really a shame because the food was quite delicious. FOODALLERGY problem. BEADVISED, proceed with caution Here’s what went wrong: Major issue: I’m gluten free and I made it very clear that I’m gluten free. After eating I said to my wife, «I’m extremely tired all the sudden.» Shortly after that I learned that I had just eaten WHOLEWHEAT bread. The bread was gluten free. I was excited to have gluten free /vegan bread. It’s hard to find that. They are lucky I’m not celiac otherwise I would have thrown up but instead the next day I spent most of it in the bathroom. I will never eat there again and I advise if you have an allergy not to trust them because they do not know how to handle it. Other issues: Our server was MIA! He took our order and seriously we never saw him again. The manager who looked like she was 12 and older than everyone else in there waited on us. Who runs this place? It was seriously all kids running it More issues: We got there and the restaurant was ½ full and it took them 60 minutes to bring us our food. We sat down at 7:40, ordered and 8 and left at 9:15. That’s crazy!!! I don’t know if they had an off night or they are always this unorganized. It’s shame about the gluten because there menu is clearly labeled what is vegan, vegetarian and gluten free but clearly they screwed up! My wife loved her food and she was fine the next day. Maybe we will try them again but only as a carry out from them but we will never eat there again! However that next day experience was horrible!

Quite a nice restaurant, my dining partner commenting about how many of the dishes were the best or a favorite. We have a favorite Indian restaurant, but thought to venture out, giving this geographic outlier(for us) a try. We’re glad we did. Our strategy was to order tried-and-true with a few new items. The order included: Vegetable Pakora(compliments of a Unilocal check-in); Tandoori Chicken; Chicken Tikka Masala; Lamb Madras; Aloo Gobi(cauliflower and potatoes); breads: Naan and Roti(gluten free). And all was good! The tomato sauce of the masala and madras was different from what I’m accustomed to: perhaps a little more cardamom or nutmeg is the explanation. Spice? My partner was concerned that it might be ‘too’; the server advised not an issue and all dishes were of a medium spice, pleasing the spice lover and the spice leery. If you want more heat, you might want to put in a request for turning it up. They make a point of identifying gluten free menu items and there are a lot. Bravo on that! The restaurant is nicely appointed with a slightly darkened drama for evening time. And, finally, the bar made a very nice vodka martini. All good!

Spinach saag… So yummy Met some cousins here for an impromptu dinner and despite my arguing that fab Indian food is oft found on Devon Ave. in Chicago, the family insisted on trying this place. Boy was I glad I listened. The food was so delicious, the spices left a cacophony of flavors on the palate. I had the butter chicken that was so flavorful and moist that I’ve been judging all other Indian restaurants by this standard. I’ll have to try them again to make sure it wasn’t a mere one time fluke, but I will add that EVERYTHING we ordered was very tasty and fresh. WIll make another round here next time I’m in town.

I’m no expert on Indian food. I’ve been wanting to try it for years but the other half is reluctant. So when my loyal companion/relative suggested Indian, I leaped at the opportunity. It was a bit later for a Sunday dinner, around 7:30. But there were several tables occupied. We ordered the samosas, a curry dish, a chicken makhaki, basmati rice, a chutney and some naan. The samosas were flavorful, spicy and piping hot. I knew the food was going to be good when the rice came out. It was perfect! Not gummy nor sticky or too dry. The entrees were delightful and I’m looking forward to the leftovers today! Each was a different spice pallet, so I felt we got a good overview and a good introduction to Indian food. We were already making plans for our next visit before the check arrived. A delightful and yummy evening!

I ordered from this place last week and found it to be, OK. Not, great but not bad either. Chicken 65 was sweeter than expected and Biryani was alright. They said order would be ready in 40−45mins but it took over an hour and when I got home, I noticed they gave me a lamb dish instead of the chicken tikka I ordered. I called back and they offered a refund for chicken tikka, so that was good. I may or may not go back here.

The food is amazing and the service is supurb! We went on a Saturday night when many restaurants typically busy and the wait is long. They sat us right down and had a good amount of staff on hand that our food was to us within half an hour of ordering. The food itself was delicious. Everything tastes fresh, the sauces are delectable and the AMOUNTOFFOODYOUGETISENOUGHFORNEXTNIGHT’S DINNER :) We ordered the dinner for 2 which includes appetizer, salad, small plates of different dishes(similar to tapas) and dessert. This was about the same price as two entrees. Definitely worth an evening on the town. Also, if you are in the area for lunch, their prices are much lower and they offer a lunch buffet.

Feastly. The food, the selection, portions, and sampler options here are incredible. The restaurant is located in a strip mall, which I’m naturally suspicious of, but(fellow urbanites) …don’t let that deter you!!! You can tell the owners and chef/cooks put a lot of heart into this place. Super vegetarian friendly, menu is thoughtful, waiter was even incredible… And so on. And if it’s any indication, I accidentally got here 15 mins before they opened for dinner service and waited in the parking lot for 5:00 to roll around… didn’t see anyone walk into the other restaurants in the strip in that time, but it turns out there were about 15 other people also waiting for Tava to open. On a Sunday evening. Survey says… worth waiting for! :)

O. M. G. The chicken buttery masala is like Christmas in my mouth! I have nothing to complain about the food. Had the samosa and they were not ripped off type(the hollow ones). Price is very reasonable, they even have a Unilocal coupon on non busy days. The place is beautiful as well. There is ample parking too. The only reason why it’s a 4 star and not a 5 is because they don’t have enough staff. Took awhile before we got seated, orders taken and served. But they all work hard and they are very well mannered as well, just that they could use an extra helping hand.

Great food. Have eaten all over Chicago for many years and still find this to be one of the best places in the Chicagoland area. Hopefully management will read this and understand that sometimes the service can be slow here. Everyone is always very nice but it can take sometimes 10 to 15 minutes to get your first drink and everybody seems to be behind the bar at once. If they could just make the beginning part of your experience better I would give this 5 stars. Again the food is great. Great variety. Excellent breads chicken and lamb dishes. Great selections of drinks. Maybe a good idea to have a bartender make the drinks so the waiters are back there making them and throwing themselves down.

I HADONEOFMYFAVORITESTMEALSOFALLTIMEHERE! Straight up. Every time my fiancé and I drive by TAVA he has to make a comment about how this is his favorite Indian food so finally he got past just talking the talk and he walked the walk and took me here. I finally see what he means when he said this is the best place to eat Indian. I can honestly say that this would be my go-to Indian gem for whenever I’m feeling that sudden urge for an explosion of flavor. I think that once you all try it you’re going to be saying the same thing so long as you like spice, extreme flavor, rice and some super tender meat. Now this ridiculously amazing entrée that I had the pleasure of inhaling was the Chicken Makhani(butter chicken) which is definitely one of their most popular entrees. I’d never had this before but when looking at the menu it said this entrée consisted of sweet sauce and buttered chicken… um, is there anything better than that? I think not. Trust me, there is nothing better than that. This entrée totally and completely rocked my world — I could barely believe that something this amazing existed and more than that, had existed right beneath my nose the entire time. Although this entrée(like almost all of the others) was around $ 16 — a tiny bit overpriced — there was plenty to keep me full for many more hours especially because I’d mixed it with the white rice we’d ordered. You definitely should order rice with whatever entrée you order because it mixes well and it fills you up for hours. My fiancé got the Chicken Taka-tak(extra spicy) for his entrée and although it looked good, I’m biased and I’m going to say mine was better! I’m sorry, but I’ve fallen head over heels in love with the Chicken Makhani and you will to once you have your first bite of it. Now for the couple of things that weren’t so hot: the service was quite spotty and slow. When we sat down it took about 10 minutes for a waiter to come and greet us and when he finally did he seemed quite distracted. The service remained that way throughout the entire meal which was unfortunate because had the service been better this would have been a five star rating. The only other little annoyance was this musician they had playing there whom absolutely sucked. His awful attempts at playing the guitar distorted the serene environment that would have existed otherwise. They’d be better off to not even have a musician there. Honestly, the service is fine(I’ve had worse) but don’t pay attention to the bad things because this restaurant has great food to offer. It really is a wonderful restaurant with some of the best Indian food and I encourage you all to go eat there!

Ate here last night and what a feast! We ordered a ton of food and everything was fantastic, great flavor and a really great list of choices. Everything was fresh and hot out of the oven. Tried the gluten free roti which was very tasty; its denser and feels multi-grain– it was yummy but don’t expect pillowy naan when you order it. I’m gluten free and the selection was amazing. The gluten eaters raved about the regular naan which did smell amazing. Best surprise: dal taka tak, which was adored by all. Everything was tasty! Portions generous but rice isn’t included.

I’ve been in Chicago for seven years now and experienced disappointment after disappointment when searching for Indian food. I used to live near Lincoln park and visited A popular place on Clark street, on multiple occasions, based on reviews about it being so good… Well no thank u. Not good at all. Now I moved to the northwest part of chicago and by accident I stumble onto this little strip mall and I see this Tava. Lunch buffet??? Why not? I’m off today and I’ve got all day. I walk up to the buffet, get some food, sit down and brace myself to be underwhelmed as usual. I put his fried bread dough with chickpea soup type mixture in my mouth and something magical begins to happen. It’s actually good! Damn good!!! What’s happening?! Must be the fried dough. Everything tastes good fried. This won’t happen again with the other food. I put chicken makahna(sp?). And damn that’s good too. Green beans… My eyes roll into the back of my head. They’re a dream(and I don’t even like green beans!) This keeps going and going until I reach the dessert which is an unbelievable cardamon rice pudding. Amazing! Lord! I kept thinking about that rice pudding for a week until I dragged my husband out to Tava. He had the lamb madras and could stop raving about it. He used to live in the UK and hasn’t had decent Indian food since moving to Chicago. This time it was he that kept raving for a week and couldn’t wait to go back. I’m looking forward to Monday family take out special and I’ll definitely be getting an order of that rice pudding to go with it.

Wow! I love Tava a little more today than I did yesterday! I didn’t feel like sitting down in the restaurant and called to see if they had any specials for pick up during lunch! Ding ding ding. They do! I got Dal makahni and butter chicken with basmati rice and naan for a whopping $ 8. But the price was literally last on my list of amazingness! Their food is so fresh and delicious! The butter chicken is awesome! So tasty. I love dal makahni and theirs is on point! Going to make this a weekly thing!
