60 State Park is the newly renovated, latest restaurant iteration at the Inn at Morro Bay. It has lots of potential, but most of it is, as yet, unrealized. We had made a reservation a week in advance, and although we arrived 30 minutes early and the restaurant was maybe half full, we were not seated for over 45 minutes. The host/​maitre d’ was completely flustered and the whole restaurant appeared to be in chaos. After reminding him 3 times that we were waiting, we were finally seated. This was just a harbinger of things to come, and a reflection of the entire evening. Our waiter, a nice enough young man, clearly had little experience waiting tables, and absolutely NO training — explaining the menu and food preparation, taking our order, pouring wine, etc. Without going on, it just became comical how unorganized and unprofessional the entire experience was. Except it wasn’t funny, because we were there to have an enjoyable, relaxing dinner to celebrate a birthday, and it was anything but relaxing. It became abundantly clear that the staff, from top to bottom, didn’t have a clue.
The restaurant itself is casually but nicely appointed, but is so bright that you feel like you’re eating in a diner. Oh, the food! Decent enough, but completely overshadowed by the overall disappointing experience. It was impossible to enjoy a meal surrounded by such inept service.
All in all, unless the management provides some serious training and professional oversight, this restaurant will fail just like the predecessors in this location. We’ll hold off on returning until we hear things have improved.
