I’m an allergy induced asthma sufferer. Unfortunately, I’m very affected by smoke whether it’s second hand or just residue. When walking up to this hotel, the smell of smoking is so heavy it hits you from a good 10 feet away. The first room we were given for a «non-smoking» room had an ashtray in it and REEKED of smoke. Opening the door was like blasting a cigarette right in your face. It was incredible just how much it reeked of smoke. Our second room – and reportedly the only other one they had available – did not smell like smoke but after a time in the room it was clear that someone had smoked in it previously. In addition, there was an ashtray in the room. My daughter was so distraught about how bad the room was that she begged for us to go somewhere else and I would have too but unfortunately I didn’t know there was a Hampton Inn nearby. To be honest, I’d have paid 6x what I paid at the Super 8 just to get a room that was smoke free. If it weren’t so late, I’d have tried to find a place to stealth camp for the night. To try to limit our exposure, I brought up our own pillows from the car. In the morning, I asked the person at the desk whether«non-smoking» was just a suggestion and explained to him that both rooms had obviously been smoked in and both still had an ashtray. He admitted that Super 8 forces them to have a minimum number of smoking rooms and that when they need more they let smokers stay in the non-smoking rooms and just suggest that they smoke outside. He further stated that they have a spray that neutralizes the odor of the smoke and the first room must not have been sprayed by the staff. Thus… in the morning. my lymph nodes were massive and painful, my sinuses completely blocked, and I was on the verge of getting severe chest congestion if not a full out asthma attack. If I hadn’t had my own pillow, I’m certain it would have been much worse. The staff was nice but I’ll never stay at a Super 8 again. This was utterly disgusting.

This place was great. Clean, very comfortable bed, and friendly people at the check-in. Convenient location right off 81. Of course, we stayed here on our way back from bonnaroo so any place with a real bed and showers would have been amazing to me, but the super 8 really was an awesome find, especially for how cheap it is. If you are driving a million miles on I-81 and find yourself in the middle of nowhere that is eastern TN, stop here!
