A Place for Kids to Love I’m a fan of the breakfasts here with all their pancake and meaty goodness. I even enjoy the occasional dairy based treat. My son would say that this is where you get the chocolate chip(AKA Tie Dye) pancakes. I would say it’s where I bring my son to breakfast just to get out into the community of Morris Plains. I get the sense that the team here really does want you to enjoy your experience but they will get tripped up on something occasionally. Like, returning a check without the credit card in it because the credit card holding sleeve is broken in the book. Definitely not done on purpose, but will probably give your forehead muscles a workout. The food and service here are hit and miss in an amusing way. They are both good enough to be appropriate to the bill, but when either is really good or really bad you will definitely notice. So ride those highs and weather those lows and consider it all part of the Friendly’s Experience.

So much advertising for the $ 5.55 lunch… thought I would try it. Got there at 1:20 or so. Four occupied tables getting ready to leave and one guy at counter. Stood inside door for 7 minutes and then went to find a table… not one clean table in the room. And some of the dirt has been there a LONG time. I sat at the cleanest table I could find. I sat there for 17 minutes. Then I got up and left. On my way out one of the waiters said, «have a good one!» So I did… went right down the street and had lunch at carmel haifa! I can’t comment on the food obviously. I can’t even really comment on the service since I didn’t see any… overall…friendly ’ s in morris plains? Don’t bother.

This friendlys is like a roller coaster. They get great staff who is amazing and then they leave and get replaced with staff who barely have any training and are rude. They need to learn what customer service is. I know many have gone to the bernardsville location which seems to do good. I have also been in there many times when they are out of things so I drive to Acme to buy ice cream to make sundaes at home. The owner Will should really keep his eye on this location.

Never had a issue with Friendlys. Family is always happy when we leave. But they need to fix there hours on google. Saturday the hours state they are open to 11 but they close at 10. I was heartbroken to make the trip at 10:10 out there only to find that the door were locked!

This restaurant has streamlined its look it seems. The pictures have been replaced with scenes of Morris Plains and Morristown holiday parades and those horrible dividers have been removed from tables so now you can see everyone in the restaurant and balloons have been placed where the dividers used to be. It does make it look brighter. Sunday’s breakfast was very tasty. I ordered a large egg omelet which was filled with ham and came with a side of home fries. I topped this off with coffee(which was a bit lukewarm to be honest). It was not too crowded and it was a leisurely breakfast, no rush here!

Worst establishment I’ve ever been to. Became sick from food that looked poorly prepared but I ate it anyways because I was hungry and couldn’t find my server. I was surprised that my server could disappear completely inside such a small restaurant but I never saw them again after they brought the food. Service was terrible, rude and unprofessional staff. Bathrooms were disgusting, rest of the establishment wasn’t much cleaner. Never going back. Everyone is better off buying the friendlys brand ice cream at the acme down the road and making their own milkshake.

Like all Friendly’s, this place is fucking jacked. Looks like I am back in the 1980s… but not in a very good way. Food was okay.

What this place lacks in interior design it makes up for with wonderful service. My son and I just stopped in on our way home from a show at MPAC(a tradition of ours) and we always have a fantastic server. Tonight we had Kyle who was a rockstar. He was seated really rapidly but totally kept his cool. He got our orders perfectly, forgot nothing, checked in regularly, and was nice enough to accommodate my son with a freshly blown balloon because they didn’t have any in thr color he wanted. I had the BBQ& Bacon burger with waffle fries and my son got a hotdog with apple slices. The apple really surprised me because its was a freshly cut apple not the pre-sliced preservative coated ones you get at other restaurants. Our meal was great. My sons ice cream was adorable. A+ I only took off a star because this place really needs some TLC. It’s clean but getting pretty run down looking. Thanks for a nice end to a great day Kyle!

Thank God there are still some left. When I was a kid they were everywhere. Now they are few. Tonight I was happy to drive 30 minutes to go to one. Great service, great mushroom bacon cheese burger! As usual it was followed by a Reeses Pieces sundae! Hands down one of the greatest ice cream combinations ever devised! I hope this one stays open for many years to come!

The booths here are rather small and I’m rather large. This meant I either had to eat at one of the two available tables or feel like Gulliver in Lilliput in a booth. Fortunately, I was able to find a free table. Wife and I both had their lobster roll sandwiches. Nicely prepared on a toasted hotdog bun with the lobster in a mix of mayo and celery. My wife really enjoyed it and I thought it was surprisingly good. So good she vowed to make them at home. With drinks and a side salad, lunch came to over $ 40. The lobster rolls were $ 15 each. They also have a $ 5 lunch menu that looked intriguing. Last time I ate at a Friendly’s was in the 80s, and I was very pleased to see they have Coke-Cola products instead of their(awful) Friendly cola. Service was friendly and polite, although the wait for food was a bit long. I would have taken my review down a full star if there was no adult-sized table and with only two(as mentioned) that was a close call. Not likely to eat here again, but those lobster rolls were quite yummy and fresh-tasting.

The ice cream is good, let’s start with that. Plenty of toppings, favors and all sorts of shakes, blends and malts. The food is concession stand at best. Tonight I didn’t want to cook, save my family the hassle of going out for dinner and wanted mint(green) chocolate chip ice cream. Well, I’m enjoying it right now. It is good. However, I wished I cooked. I ordered online for my husband to pick up. Online didn’t allow to customize anything(ie no onions, no peanuts, add anything I wanted). The menu was preset and I could only pick from what was listed. It asked about allergies but didn’t allow any place to list what they were. Odd. I craved loaded waffle fries. I didn’t get loaded waffle fries. My husband came home with lots of boxes but not a lot of food for $ 45 for 2.5 people. The fries were not loaded-what’s the point of all this anyhow at that point! The salad was large but the romaine was wilted in spots. The chicken tenders were dry. The waffle fries were not loaded… it stings. When we eat there again, and we will, it’s local, we won’t order online(although it’s really convenient but executed poorly). The ice cream is good :-)

We passed it by yesterday and decided to get an ice cream. Since it’s our first visit, the girl nicely introduced to us their menu. We did not sit and ordered a $ 4.25 ice cream at the counter. After reading Kimberly’s review, I think it is better to order at counter if you just want a bite. Overall, the owner and the staffs are very friendly as the name of store. BTW, the mint flavor ice cream is just OK.

My daughter and family from the UK wanted to go to Friendly’s. I warned them of poor service. My daughter asked, «How bad can it be?» They showed us: 1 hour + 40 min for 5 lunch items and 3 ice cream cones. Burger ordered rare was delivered gray from being so overdone. Fries were mushy. Free soda refills? Only if you could find the waiter, which you couldn’t. Truly awful.

I don’t know why every Friendlys on the planet hires the absolute slowest moving staff, but they sure do. My daughter and I came in to get a quick ice cream. We were seated, waited 10 minutes to order and then waited 25 minutes to receive our order. This was puzzling since there were only 2 other tables being waited on in the entire restaurant. When the ice cream came, my daughter’s was perfect(Yay!) but my order was made with the wrong ice cream flavor. They were apologetic and gracious bringing me the correct one…15 minutes later. So, my daughter was almost finished while I just began. The ice cream is always yummy, but the staff really needs to be more attentive and faster in getting the orders taken and served. Getting the bill settled took another 10 minutes at least. Simply too long. Luckily my daughter and I didn’t have anywhere we were in a rush to get to!

I had to go back twice for the clam strips. They are superb at this low key chain. Great comfort food as it was a big treat during my youth to dine here. very friendly and accompanying staff. They let me sub broccoli for fries. great diner food in a clean environment.
