My Dear Old Dad used to say,
«You need FOUR things in this life:
–A good wife.
–A good doctor.
–A good attorney.
–And an honest mechanic!
McLaughlin is THAT honest mechanic and I will never take my car (s) anywhere else.
Case in point? When Toyota quoted me $ 550 to «fix» a dead low beam on our 2003 Highlander a few years back, I brought it to Mr. McLaughlin for a second opinion. He told me to pop the hood and walked into his shop. Two minutes later, he reached in, replaced the BULB and asked me for $ 10.00!
He’s been my mechanic ever since.

I had my water pump and thermostat replaced on a 3351 BMW and they were prompt to give me a quote. The cost ended up being $ 1050 less than the dealership. I dropped the car off on a Friday morning and they called me upon completion at 2:30 the same day.
Many people have suggested that I utilize McLaughlin’s and they seem to do good work at a fair price. I just requested a quote for 4 new tires and bushings… the Freehold BMW dealership wants ~$ 350/tire (stay away from Freehold BMW as they are an insane ripoff with the worst service department). I’m sticking with McLaughlin.

My car was stuck in their shop for over one month to do a head gasket, which is a 5 hour job. I drove the car off the lot and the issue I was having — seemed like low compression — came right back. My money was refunded after I threatened small claims court. Also:
— They are poor communicators. They had me call 1−2x per day, and never provided me with updates other than, «Working on it, call back later.» In fact, they’re rude.
— They’re sloppy. My car was returned with grease everywhere outside, a bottle of Pepsi inside.
— They don’t care. My car was returned to me with low coolant that they should’ve replaced when doing the head gasket.
— My friend had a similar experience here in 2002. I had my car towed and didn’t realize it was the same shop until I picked it up. Stupid on my part.
My only good part of the experience is that my money was finally refunded.
