We drove by, eagerly anticipating the adventure of discovering a new favorite place to eat from the Unilocal reviews, only to find it is now out of business. :(

Good sandwiches. Cool guys that run the place. Prices are okay. They seem to remember me every time too… how? I have no clue. I am in this shop maybe 1 – 2 times a year. Maybe it’s that ski mask I’ve been known to wear?

It’s in an unassuming small shopping center along old Monterey Road, but don’t let it pass you by! My papaya milkshake was suuuper good, and the pastry I finally picked(out of the veritable multitude that are on display in front) was way beyond good! Fluffy and moist with a crunchy sugar shell.um. I am a gringa when it comes to identifying these things, but whatever it was, it was soo good! and two huge pupusas ricas for $ 5. The owner Mrs. is so friendly, too. And there’s a neat nautical/swordfish décor theme you can stare at while you’re waiting for your huge pupusas. I will find some excuse to visit Morgan Hill, because I AM coming back!

As a reincarnation of The Happy Fisherman, Deli-Pan more than lives up to its prior greatness – which made it a hidden gem in the South Bay Cuban restaurant scene.(Those«Best of ____» people don’t know what they’re missing… but I sort of like it that way. Shhhh!) This is a real Mom-n-Pop place where the owners greet you like old friends, and serve some of the best cuban food I’ve had North of Miami/Key West. I’m a huge fan of their ropa vieja,(shredded beef in a savory tomato sauce) and my husband usually has whatever Jose recommends – be it the milanesa(breaded steak) or chuletas ahumadas(smoked pork chops), or whatever else catches his eye. And don’t forget the moros(beans and rice), yucca or fried plantains! And now, on top of all the yummy entrees and sandwiches, Deli-Pan has a delicious assortment of mexican/hispanic pastries to round out your dinner. I’d highly recommend the orejas(elephant ears) or their colossal macaroons. But whatever you end up choosing from this hidden gem of a restaurant, you’re hardly likely to be disappointed. Remember, though… you didn’t hear it from me! Shhhhh!

Best Cuban food in all of the Bay area! I should know, I am a Cuban from Miami that is missing her food terribly. I found this place accidentally, but it is worth the trip. Not an elegant place at all, but delicious. The owner came up with his own recipe for Cuban bread which is very close to the original that you can’t get anywhere around here. I have had the Cuban sandwich and the steak with rice and black beans so far. I can’t say enough about the place. It is run by a couple 6 days of the week from opening till closing, and everything is made the moment you order it. This place used to be called the Happy Fisherman. They are now called Deli-Pan, and while they still have the same dishes, they now have a glass display full of breads and sweets — so you can finally take some Cuban bread home! This place is so reasonable! The Cuban sandwich was $ 5.75(and it’s a big sandwich). If you’re curious about Cuban food, don’t miss this place!
