I was tired of stylists that don’t know how to cut or work with curly hair. I was terrified of having to get a haircut because I knew it wouldn’t be what I wanted and would take a long time to get the curls back. That is until I went to Monumental Styles and Terri Spells! The staff there was so hospitable that my first time there was like vising with a friend. Terri knows how to work with naturally curly hair, took time to show me how to take care of it myself, and listened to my concerns. It was quite a bit more expensive than I usually spend and farther away(30+ miles) but it was worth every penny and mile. I loved the cut and because I was growing it out, I haven’t been there in six months. I’ve decided I want to cut it shorter again and Terri and Monumental Styles are the only ones I trust. I will be seeing them again soon!

I have very curly(botacelli; google it) hair and am always bringing a baseball hat and scrunchie when I get a haircut. Not anymore– for literally! the first time, I walked out and felt like I could go anywhere. Even took a picture and sent to my hubs(who’s tired of hearing me complain about crappy haircuts that leave me feeling like sideshow bob when I walk out). Cathy is a deva-curl trained stylist who talks about how to style your curls, protect them(since curly hair dries to straw in no time out here in no-humidity world) and generally get the most out of the crazy hair you’ve been given. Since I started using the no-poo from their line, my hair is softer and way more controllable. I never would have thought foaming shampoo was part of the ‘brittle/bushy’ I was just used to. I don’t like all the deva curl products, but they stock them all– the product is expensive but for once, a hair product and stylist actually fixed my hair! $ 50 for cut and style. Since its cut correctly, I don’t need to go as often, which evens out the yearly totals on more frequent, but crappy haircuts. :)

I love my salon. I really really do. I love my stylist. I love the owner. I love how clean it is. I love how friendly everyone is. Yes, yes, I’ll do specifics. The owner, Sandy, was my mom’s stylist for over 10 years before my parents moved away. Upon hearing that Sandy had opened her own place that rents booths to stylists, I was very happy but still going to Aveda salons(though slowly but surely becoming disenchanted with them and their super smelly products). Well, my brother’s wedding was slowly but surely approaching(3÷12÷11) and I was growing out a bad haircut. My mom, being my mom, got her hair cut and glazed with Sandy, which looked really natural and photographed beautifully in the wedding portraits. She also told Sandy that I needed a cut as well, and Sandy immediately matched me with stylist Emily Steiner. Match made in follicular heaven, people. I love Emily. Love love love. She has given me nothing but consistently great cuts that grow out beautifully and actually give me longer time between cuts because I don’t need reshaping. I recently went in and got a full foot chopped to give(not donate… just give away), and after her initial«are you serious,» she gave me the cutest mid– neck A-line with an insane back that, once again, is growing out really well and i’m not having all the weird growing pains I have in the past with stacked cuts or blunt cuts. I’m supposed to be growing my hair out again, but I think I might just go get trimmed up and keep the short for a little while. Emily is fantastic for long hair care and modern cuts, Sandy does fantastic shorter lengths, and another stylist who was my stylist until I moved for college, Rosie, is really fun for funky and functional cuts of any length. I can’t comment on the other ladies, except to say they are warm, friendly, supportive, and if they love your hair they let you know! When I got chopped a friend came with me, and at least three other stylists(between clients) went up to her and asked her about her super cute pixie(that can be molded into a ‘hawk to piss off her mom-in-law, it’s brilliant). And when I say went up, they were inspecting and learning. Nothing but respect for the stylists at this salon, prices are very reasonable, the retail/waiting room is tidy, clean, and has lots of products to pick from. The ladies obviously take pride in the shop and their role in it, and keep the salon in tip top shape. If you’re in Monument or the surrounding area and need a new stylist, please give this business a shot. I LOVETHEM! And you know if I didn’t… you’d know.
