This place was a gem in Montrose. Our waiter Victor was fantastic, he was super enthusiastic and made our dining experience that much better. Would definitely come back just for his service, plus the house salad.

Dining at Black Cow is the best decision I’ve ever made. I’s the best place when you are hungry. They have great customer service. Nice place with huge options of food, drinks and dessert. Good place for family get together.

I love this place. Customer service is amazing, setup of the restaurant is amazing. Food is even better. Their blueberry muffins are bomb. Two drawbacks for me which is why I’m taking a star off. One, they don’t serve food on Mondays, only coffee. Two. Their breakfast hours end very early so it isn’t a place to have brunch.

I’ve been here a few times and it’s lovely for a Sunday brunch. Do get here early because there’s a wait for brunch. Atmosphere is nice and family oriented. I 100% recommend their outdoor sidewalk seating! Inside feels claustrophobic and dated. Food come outs in good portions and tasty. I’m having their special of cranberry ricotta stuffed French toast on apricot jam!

Food was very good! The staff was extremely friendly, especially to my friend’s baby cousin. They set aside the stroller for you in order to make room for everyone. Parking: There’s 3 hour parking across the street

The Black Cow is the perfect place to go when you are starving, but you don’t know what you want to eat. They have a varied menu featuring elevated pub grub and in-house baking. We were greeted by a very friendly waiter named Marta who kept us well-served during our dinner. Very nice woman, very helpful. I had the fried chicken. Excellent. Crunchy crust, and very moist inside. It came with garlicky mashed potatoes and gravy and 2 cheese biscuits that all went home with me, including the delicious homemade raspberry jam. The plate also came with cole slaw. It was homemade and fresh and well-dressed. I ate it all despite not favoring sweet slaws. We started with caesar salads that were good, but next time I’ll request dressing on the side. Adding a salad was a reasonable cost. Had I chosen to make healthier choices, the meal salads around me looked wonderful, had lots of different produce in them and were big servings. The burgers at the next table looked tall and delicious on brioche buns. My friend ordered the sand dabs and they were lightly grilled in butter and the side of vegetables was generous, fresh, and very tasty. In addition to other seafood choices, there were Mexican specialties on the menu, sandwiches, and a seafood jamabaya special that I would love to try on the night of the week it’s offered. In addition to the leftovers I took home, they also offered a dessert and I chose the blackberry cobbler, which I had for breakfast the next day. OMG. Insanely good, with lots of whole berries baked in. I looked in the dessert case and the baking at this place is amazing. They also have a hand-scooped ice cream counter with intriguing flavors. The biscuits were a good(heavy!) leftover, split and reheated at home in my cast iron pan. Honestly, the Black Cow is stoner heaven. Every food group craving can be satisfied. Perfect for brunch, I imagine. Bring your appetite –and not too much cash. This place is a great value. I will definitely return.

What a lovely little café! A perfect spot for Sunday brunch, Black Cow Café satisfies the morning cravings like no other. Start off with fresh French pressed coffee(hot or iced), or an amaretto latte. I had them bring me a hot chocolate with amaretto, and it was definitely one of the best life decisions I’ve ever made. I ordered the Nutella French Toast special: hawaiian egg bread crusted in frosted flakes, stuffed with nutella and bananas, along with extra bananas and strawberries added on top. Each bite was so satisfying! The frosted flakes stayed crunchy the entire time, and the fruit kept things balanced when the nutella got too sweet. We also ordered the breakfast quesadilla, filled with scrambled egg, avocado, bacon, ortega chilies, pico de gallo and jack and cheddar cheese. Someone commented that there was a bit too much cheese, but it is a quesadilla, so… It’s hard to argue against too much cheese in a quesadilla to be honest. We finished everything down with a bottle of San Pellegrino and a smile on our faces! We will definitely be back.

Hmm I probably ordered the wrong thing. I got biscuits and gravy. The gravy and biscuits were ok. I liked the sausage it came with it. But besides that I would not order it again My best friend got the breakfast sandwich and she said it was good We also go the Nutella crêpe. large size. It didn’t look large. Overall I would come back and maybe order something else.

I’ve never been to Montrose, but it’s got quite a cute small town feel going on in this area. Going by the pictures on Unilocal, all the food looks amazing. Which made it quite difficult to pick what to eat. I ordered the Corned Beef Skillet. It was pretty darn delicious. The eggs were perfectly poached. It also comes with a cheddar biscuit which is pretty good as well. Parking isn’t too bad. There’s street parking, but that’s probably full especially on Sunday mornings when they have a farmer’s market down the street. There’s a free public parking lot across the street from Black Cow, behind the pet store.

From NY, and I’ve been here twice already in less than a year. It’s pretty great. Staff are so friendly and personable. A bit pricey, but definitely go for breakfast. They serve breakfast until 11 on weekdays and weekends it’s til 2. Weekends are pretty busy, but the wait is worth it. Great drink selections and even there black drip coffee is amazing.

I’m not in Montrose very often — but now I have a reason to come back! Black Cow Café was great! Of course, like many other restaurants in L.A. — when they’re good, they’re popular. We did have to wait about 30−40mins for lunch, but it was fine. They were very accommodating with our group with included two strollers for our young children. Service was friendly and quick. Almost everything is handmade and you can really tell. I had a hard time choosing what to order, but I settled on the BREAKFASTQUESADILLA and it was PERFECT! The buttery tortillas were filled with flavorful cheese, guac, bacon and chilis and the side of pico de gallo was just great with it. My husband let me have a bit of toast with their homemade jam and it was DIVINE! I also tried a bit of the sausage gravy and it was rave-worthy too! I’d make the trek out here just for Black Cow — however, I’d need to pick a less crowded time.

Dear Black Cow Café, Our first experience meeting each other was a very decent one indeed. The Apple Brie Sandwich you offered me was delicious and tasty, as a handful of caramelized onions, sliced apples, and melted brie cheese were all being put in between two harmonious layers of toasted Brioche bread. The sweetness of the onions matches well with the fruitiness of the apple and as well as the creaminess of the brie. The brioche bread, in addition, was toasted to perfection. Paired along with the Butterscotch Latte that was neatly prepared by you, my taste buds and sensations were in a state of culinary satisfaction. As for the zucchini bread, it reminded me of the tasting qualities of the bread pudding, a very wonderful blend of qualities indeed. As a result, I will be looking forward for our next culinary date on the peaceful streets of Montrose, and together we can advance to a wonderful foodie-food relationship. Thank you with love, Eric

Was here checking out Descano garden and swung by to grab a quick meal. Quite busy during the lunch time. Plenty of parking in the back lot if you are unable to find street parking. Dunno why you would pay for the meter when there’s free parking. Had to wait a bit but was fairly fast. Sat down and the waitress was pretty nice and attentive. Food came out really fast. We ordered the weekend wrap which was a juicier than i expected. It was a bit soggy as it kept dripping out. I thought it tasted a bit bland, not a lot of seasoning. It had the ingredients and potential be good had they salted a bit more. Also got the chile skillet which was pretty tasty as well. Overall service was great but the food did not really make an impression.

Fun, bright & welcoming. Very cute breakfast /brunch café with lots of options for food, bakery, drinks and dessert. The line was ridiculously long… so recommend either coming on the weekday or avoiding peek hours. What struck me most was that there were so many families with kids! Love it. A kid-friendly restaurant with good food deserves two thumbs up.

Crowded. Clueless hostess but very nice waitress. Food was… odd. Corned beef skillet tasted like pizza. We couldn’t figure out why. Filet steak and eggs was wretched. What a waste of a filet. Cheese biscuits definitely stood up to the hype. I’d eat these for breakfast with some coffee. Don’t need much else. Prices are higher than I’d like to pay for food that leaves me needing to eat again. Wouldn’t come back, though that’s not to say this place isn’t good. The crowd was impressive so I guess you should try it. I won’t be returning.

Fun, funky find in Montrose. Just minutes from Descanso Gardens. Thanks to Unilocal reviewers, stopped in for the first time last Saturday for an early dinner. Found parking in back, and were seated right away at a cozy table by the front window. Menu had many choices to mull over, with many comfort food items. Seemed appropriate for a misty afternoon. Dear Hubby had the Reuben. I tried the chipotle grilled cheese sandwich. Each came with a side. The house salad portion was extremely generous, as was the fresh fruit. Service was quick, friendly, and on point. Note to selves: Narrow down the choices and only order one dish, as portions are very large — enough to share. We also shared a French onion soup. Savory broth and lots of Gruyère and onion. A winner! Ordering a mocha meant no need for dessert. It comes with whipped cream and chocolate sauce drizzled on top. For $ 3?! Who does that? We took home lots of leftovers and left the charming interior to go for a stroll on Honolulu Avenue to walk off some of the filling deliciousness.

Came here for a late lunch on a rainy Sunday and waited less than 5 minutes to be seated. Yes! I ordered the chicken cilantro sausage omelette which came with house potatoes and a side of toast with jam. The omelette was not really an omelette. It was basically a scramble with melted cheese on top. I’m not sure why they call it an omelette. Despite this fact, I enjoyed my meal, especially the bread and jam. I’m not sure what it was about the jam, but everyone at our table loved it and someone even poured all the leftover jam into his takeout box. So yes, it was that good. Service was good for the most part and our waters never became empty. Parking was easy to find in the free public lot nearby. I’m not sure if it was because we came during a downpour. I could totally see how parking may be difficult to come by on a Fri/Sat evening.

I’m not really sure how I felt about this place. We arrived at 11:10 am. We had to wait almost an hour to be seated inside, but that’s somewhat understandable because it was Sunday. I had a coffee and chilaquiles. The black coffee was fine, but the milk had dust in it(which I scooped out with a spoon). The chilaquiles tasted very plain. Nothing special, really. The tortilla chips were already soggy when it arrived. Service was very nice, but the wait was not worth the food.

This is a solid local breakfast spot in Montrose. I’ve been here a few times and love their breakfast. Food quality is excellent, everything is fresh and well prepared. The small restaurant has an old fashion country appeal and cozy atmosphere. It has both indoor and outdoor dining where one side of the restaurant is actually coffee bar/pastry shop, perfect for those on the go or want something quick and light. Menu has a lot of good options and is reasonably priced. Their omelets was absolutely delicious, especially spinach and chicken sausage omelet. Every element perfectly done with generous fillings of spinach, chicken-clilantro sausage, pico de gallo, salsa ranchera and cheese. Slightly spicy and so flavorful. My usual ritual of reaching for the hot sauce or ketchup to infuse flavor into my meal was hardly warranted, good as is. It comes with breakfast potatoes and slices of wheat toast /w fresh strawberry jam. The house made wheat bread was thick, tasty and addicting. Spread some jam and butter was all she wrote. It goes down nicely with their fresh brewed coffee too. MMMMM! Regular coffee refills included to accompany their friendly and hospitable service. Always enjoy my visits here. Hits the spot every time and nice way to start your day on bright note. The area also has a lot of great shops and ample parking, makes for pleasant experience.

Holy Moly! This place is just amazing. I had Sunday breakfast here. There were several parties waiting but because we had a party of two there was a table available and was seated right away. I started off with a black iced coffee. After looking over the menu several times I finally went with the Southern Skillet. I didn’t think I’d like it so much. It came with biscuits which are to die for as well. Please take a look at the photos I attached. the biscuits were so soft and I couldn’t help it but smother them in butter. The dish itself has a layer of corn bread below the eggs and bacon. The service was very fast. Our drinks were refilled by the waitress without having to ask. Can’t want to go back and try another item on the menu and have a food-gasm.
