The food is above average, but the service is so poor I feel I can’t go back. Background: I live in the neighborhood and have eaten here 15+ times. 3 weeks ago on a Thursday night, we came with several friends(8 total) and waited close to 2 hours for our food. The bar service was also poor. Several trips to the table from the«manager» apologizing, but failed to do anything about the check. Tonight I gave the server heads up that 3 weeks ago we were VERY disappointed and she assured us she was going to take care of us. Appetizer of chips and queso took over 20 minutes to arrive as our iced tea glasses continued to stay empty. Asked 2 different servers for more iced tea and finally took our glasses to the bar for a refill. Food arrived after an hour and fifteen minutes. It is obvious to someone not in the food service industry that the Woodforest Bar and Grill hires«servers» that claim to have experience and then don’t train them. Suggestion to them: TRAINTHESTAFF and stop having to apologize for your horrible service. Update: neighbors, who have been back, say that the service hasn’t changed… Still subpar. So much potential and such a disappointment. Sure wish the super convenient place would get it together.

So I’ve been once and returned a second time, so I must give it 4 Stars, but I also must say that I’m concerned: Management seems a tad… inexperienced. For example, there is a Sunday brunch, on SOME Sundays, but don’t count on it every Sunday. I asked the staff, «How do I know which Sunday’s to come for brunch?» They did not know. Staff also seems remarkably poorly trained: They are young and eager to please, but no one seems to have taken the time to teach even the most fundamental of service standards to them. I ordered the bacon grits for breakfast. They had placed shredded cheese atop the serving that did not melt. Some may have taken the clue that this meant the dish was cold, but not my server. Marketing is an issue: Recently I picked up a flyer: JOINUSFORSTEAKNIGHTEVERYSATURDAYNIGHT, it exclaimed: Why? Because I cannot grill my own steak on a Saturday Night? Because I cannot find 6 oz Filet Mignon in the local Kroger? Happily, there was a picture of a steak on the flyer in case I got confused. Instead there should be a picture of the beautiful landscape scene off the veranda. This place has a wonderful view(if you can see over the ill-conceived railing surrounding the deck). There are plenty of fans overhead that work great when you remind the under-trained staff to turn them on. And then there’s the piped in music which, according to staff, the astonishingly unimaginative management has limited to Classic Rock or Country, guaranteeing that at least 50% of the audience will be annoyed. Have they heard of Spanish Guitar? Instrumental? Celtic? I suppose I’ll keep my ear-buds handy. Does Management know what a happy hour is? It has been know to be promotional in a few bars on planet earth. How about $ 3 Gin/Vodka Tonics and 50% off beer 5 – 7 every night? Maybe offer free peanuts, chips? Well, I’d like to connect more dots for you; hopefully I’ve done enough so Woodforest Grille can remain In The Black while I enjoy the veranda during the next year.

The new Woodforest Club House & Restaurant is quite simply gorgeous! We stopped in for a drink before dinner out somewhere, but ended up staying & inviting friends to join us! Wine on the wrap-around veranda with breath-taking views of the green & toasty fire in the outdoor fireplace was the perfect spot for relaxing. The bar & main dining room have multiple big flat-screens for great game watching, so we decided to dine inside. The menu was surprisingly reasonable for a golf club & most entrees included a couple of sides. My grilled salmon was good but the guys really liked the pork chop & steak dinner. My only issue would probably be that the kitchen closes at 9:00 – which is fine for most folks. The restaurant is open for lunch/dinner and nice brunch on the weekends. Very pleased with new building & so glad it’s finally opened!
