Jan called us personally and apologized for a mistake on our takeout order, and our next trip in she gave us free bread pudding and fried green tomatoes, our favorite appetizer and dessert on the menu Some of the best seafood in town, locally owned with great customer service. Live music most nights per week. You really can’t go wrong here

Jan’s is a neighborhood institution. A pulsating, throbbing gem in a city otherwise completely devoid of anything meaningful. I’ll tell you why. Upon entering, your body begins to ascend to another level. Try an appetizer– they are probably half off today. I recommend the fried pickles. The rest of the food slowly slips into the realm of the less-important as your senses are taken over. You will see ghosts from your past in the movements of your server(Katie). You will hear melodies long forgotten when the guitarist takes his bathroom break at 7:30 and management switches on the radio to cover for him. You will choke for a moment on your Beach Grill salad, but it’s okay; it’s only a piece of almond. Your time isn’t up yet. A visit to the restroom reveals paintings of things that seem strangely familiar– as if the collective unconscious went on a long-ago vacation to the seaside(which is, of course, hundreds of miles away). Jan’s Beach Grill: Where Is the Beach? Where Are You? It’s Cute That You Believe Time… Behaves This Way.

I come here alot and most of the time the and service is pretty good. However, the kitchen apparently can’t handle larger crowds. I come in behind a group, for lunch and have to wait 40 minutes for my food. The group no doubt has longer than an hour for lunch, but I don’t. …won’t be coming back for lunch anymore. This is very disappointing!

I usually do not eat anything fried, but the Fish and Oysters here are done right. Grilled and Blackened are also available. Really family friendly place which is clearly a favorite with a more mature crowd. Good Meat and 3 for lunch. The entertainment that we have seen was fun. Nice Place. We will be back.

Great cheeseburgers. Great seafood. Great crowd at the bar. Live entertainment every night. Tonight we enjoy a couple of cheese burgers and fries along with a bowl of seafood gumbo. The dance floor is crowded as a dude sings karaōke to Elvis and other classics from the past. We love this place! Nothing disappoints here. You will not go wrong with any of the nightly seafood specials. Also a great showplace for local musical talent. Don’t miss this place.

First time visitor today. The décor is beachy but the menu is more southern comfort food. I had meatloaf with mashed potatoes, creamed corn, and potato cakes. The plate also came with cornbread. The food was not bad, but it wasn’t something that tasted so good I would come back often for it. There is a full bar, 8 draft selections(that are the coldest I have found in this area!). I came at 12:30 and the place was packed, everybody seemed to want to check out at once(they have a register pay station) and the line for that backed up across the room. Service was quick and friendly, even with a packed dining room. There are several TVs but they are all on mute with closed captioning on. At the time of my visit there was 50’s/60’s doo wop music playing. Interesting note… I stuck around a bit after the crowd thinned out. The owner, Jan, spent some time speaking with me. She tells me they have live music every night except Tuesday’s. In asking about the menu, she showed me there is a separate dinner menu that starts at 4:30. It includes filet mignon, crab claws, shrimp and oyster dishes too. I think I will try it again one evening…

Great food, great family atmosphere and good prices. I like the fried shrimp. This is a locally owned and operated restaurant. The meat and three is always quality. I have even sat at the bar during lunch and watched the World Cup — eating shrimp!

So much fun! First went here for a quick bite and had the sausage & navy bean soup & fried fish fingers; both were wonderful. Met Jan as well as several regulars who made us feel right at home. Second stop was for dinner which was just as good plus there was a singer & dancing!

Decent food, but not note worthy by any means. The ambiance is very plain as well. This place does southern meat and three if that interests you. This place could be a better restaurant if they put some dollars into remodeling the place. Although you could says that for half of the restaurants in Montgomery.

Two of us came for lunch today — for the meat and three but decided we didn’t want the roast beef or tilapia which were offered. We both decided on fried shrimp — 6 «jumbo» which were actually large at best. They were OK — frozen I am sure. Sides were black-eye peas and squash both warmed from a can. The fried macaroni and cheese wedges(poor choice on our part) were terrible! It reminded me of school lunchroom food. That’s my complaint with Jan’s. The food is all frozen or canned or if not, it tastes like it. There is little seasoning or WOW factor. The«grilled» shrimp i’ve ordered before were pale and limp. Seems as if the kitchen doesn’t know there should be grill marks and a tasty hot«crisp» outside to bite into. As another reviewer put it, the food is «mediocre» and I agree. This is my fourth time here(because it’s convenient and my friend likes to come) — first time for lunch. Don’t think I’ll be back. The music at night is nice and the older crowd really has fun. But when I go out to eat it’s the food that counts! Too bad… This place could be a real gem with good food.

We have been here many times before, and we always come for the entertainment. The food is mediocre to good, but the service and the music usually makes up for it. Last night our server was exceptional, but after we were done with our meal but I still had a full beer and were waiting for desert, another server told us we needed to leave because they needed our table. We thought she was moving us closer to the band because we had requested it earlier if something came available, but the server got nasty and said that we weren’t getting any closer, then she stormed off. We told our server when she brought us desert, and she said she would take care of it. She came back in a few minutes and said she had handled it. This exceptional server saved the evening for us.

We started our lunch with a delicious crab claw basket appetizer. Our party of 5 had fish filet lunch baskets(fried, grilled, and blackened). Sides we ordered included hush puppies, green beans, fried okra, potatoes, and strawberry pie. All were very good. Soft drinks were large and refilled when needed.

Outstanding! This restaurant has a very nice and friendly staff and more importantly very good food. This restaurant is in a re-purposed Shoney’s, but you would never be able to tell because they did a good job with the design. It has a good sized dining area inside, horseshoe shaped bar that hosts a lively regular crowd and outdoor seating. Drinks here are strong, plentiful, and served with a smile. The rest of the place(and separated from the bar) is a sit-down area with tables(no booths.) I’m not from here but visit for business and must say that this place is a diamond in the rough. The food is excellent and services is equally good. They have live music every night except on Tuesdays and the two times I’ve been there the musician was great. Lastly, there is actually a Jan and she is a very friendly and gracious host. This is exactly what kind of people and place I think of when I hear the term«Southern hospitality».
