Small book shops like these never fail to leave you satisfied and appreciative of the smaller things in life. While the selection isn’t always as extensive as larger chain book stores, the atmosphere and service make up for it without being any more expensive. The lady that helped me decide between two Walker Percy books knew much about his writing style and influences, something that you probably wouldn’t be able to glean from a worker at a large book store. They play relaxing classical music and have plenty of comfortable seats if you want to come in and read a book. Be sure to stop by if you’re in the area!

Finding a bookstore in the cultural wasteland that is Montgomery is hard enough — the vast majority of places that pass for bookstores here are designed for people who don’t read books. So this place is like an oasis in the middle of a desert. It’s a bookstore that specializes in selling books: what a radical idea! More to the point, it feels and operates the way a real bookstore should. The staff are well informed and friendly, and the selection available in the relatively small space is vastly superior to what one might find in most of the large box «bookstores» out in the suburbs. The arrangement of the place invites you to linger and browse, and it’s easy to lose yourself among the many wonderful volumes available here. On the whole, this place is a breath of fresh air in a city that is not exactly a reader’s paradise.

Remember when book stores had helpful and knowledgeable people working in them? They do here. I love this place! Hooray for independent booksellers. I would go more if the hours fit my life better, but I am a loyal customer even without that accomodation. Yes, Amazon is cheaper, but this place is a gem and Montgomery would be a sadder place without it. I owe this place for the discovery of many family favorites. Frequent book signings with authors.
