The chicken kota origanti special is delicious. It comes with the best pita bread ever. I could eat a bag of the pita. The green beans are great, and I don’t usually like green beans. Some days the potatoes are a bit undercooked, but never too raw to eat. The flavors are so good that I can forgive the potatoes needing just a bit more cooking to get a top rating. All portions are generous, so the prices seem reasonable.

The best Greek restaurant in Maryland! I have been eating here for over 10 years. If you like Greek food you should definitely try this place and you will not disappointed. The owners and their daughters are genuinely nice people. I love everything about this place and of course the food is amazing. My favorite is the Lamb Souvlaki Platter. If I could I would give this place 10 stars :)

Based on the food alone, I would give Athens Grill at least 3 stars. I had their Olympian special today, with a beef tenderloin stuffed with feta, cooked perfectly, large portion of beef. And they have quite possibly the best Greek lemon potatoes ever conjured anywhere. My daughters got the special lentil soup, which was also amazing. On the other hand, the pork and chicken souvlakis were nothing remarkable, except possibly for being stingy with the portions of meat. But a restaurant meal is a whole experience, and that’s where Athens Grill really fell down. We’ve been there before, so we knew not to expect any sort of dining ambiance. The most notable issue is that the exhaust fan for the place is not working properly. It’s seriously bad. We almost had our food packed to go, we were having such a hard time breathing. But then checked out the other side of the dining room, and it seemed a bit better, so we packed up all of our food and moved. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough better. Our family of four ended up leaving with four headaches from the fumes. We also had sore throats. And clothes smelling so atrocious they will all need to be laundered. I can only imagine how awful the guys working there must feel! I’m wondering if that’s approaching some kind of health code violation level. Then two of us visited the restrooms. Let’s just say: incredibly dirty with sticky, blackish floors. If I wasn’t already sick from the fumes, the bathrooms would have done me in. Add in the constant and odd loud buzz every time the front door opened, and you have the recipe for a place we never want to return. Not even for those heavenly roasted lemon potatoes.

This is my all-time favorite lunch spot. The food is so authentic and delicious it’s very well worth the wait. The homemade desserts cannot be beaten, my favorite is the baklava. My wife absolutely loves their salad dressing available for purchase by the bottle. The dressing is a little pricey but you can’t make something that delicious for less by yourself from the grocery store. For lunch the gyro and the pork souvlaki are my favorites they are more than enough for a full meal without a side.

There must have someone to let everyone know that how delicious the food at this place is. It is really good with a reasonable price. would love to be back

I’ve lived in the area for a couple year, but never would go into Athens Grill because of the décor outside was a bit of a turn off. However, I decide to try it one day. The food was amazing. I typically order the family picnic which is a wood grilled whole chicken with salad and freshly made Pita bread all for $ 20. You’ll have to try their deserts as well! The staff is also friendly which makes up for the décor of the restaurant. This is one of Montgomery Village’s hidden Gems

The food here was just ok. I ordered the lamb souvlaki platter, which includes a heaping pile of salad, fries, and pita, and one small skewer of lamb kebab. The lamb kebab was actually pretty good, I just wish there was more of it and less of everything else(see photo). For dessert we got the peach pastry, which looks delicious but was kind of average(see photo). The reason for knocking this review down from 3 to 2 stars is the owner’s attitude. My friends and I bought our meals, and sat and talked for a bit afterwards. At some point the owner comes out and asks us if we need anything else. Then he tells us he needs this table — very poor taste for any restaurant owner. Having this one table is worth losing customers? You can have it. 2 stars.

Great local Greek food! Amazing shaved meats and so much to pick from. Love going there! I would recommend trying I!

I love this local authentic Greek restaurant! In my opinion, this is the best Greek food in Gaithersburg, and possibly east MoCo. The gyros are the best you can get. The pita is fresh, soft, buttery, and fragrant. The vegetables are fresh, and tomatoes perfect. The Tzatziki sauce is cool, crisp, and balanced with spice. And the meat. That meat! Hot, tender, juicy, and so much of it! The only problem you will have is eating it — it is huge — I dare you to eat it with out spilling contents out of it and making a mess of your face. The chicken souvlaki platter is a great lunchtime meal; plenty of food and the chicken is always fresh and fragrant. If you feel like something very hearty, I recommend their moussaka. Give it a try! Do NOT miss the dolmades. I would go just for these treats! Everything is baked fresh daily, by the same Greek family. Do not miss this place. Just don’t go on Sunday, because they are closed. Enjoy!

A little out dated when it comes to the decorations but the BESTFOOD! I have been here multiple times at different times of the day. Absolutely everything is AMAZING, the staff is always kind, the owner is one of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of speaking with. When you are there the owner makes a point to try and get to know you(if you come in multiple times) and once your a regular he seems to know exactly what it is you want(observation). Not a fast-food joint and you can tell the difference in the freshly cooked food. Worth the trip every time.

This place was GREAT! I would definitely come again. Tried it out because of the reviews that it had on it. And it lived up to the praise. Can’t wait to go again!

Not sure how Athens Grill got such high ratings, I was largely unimpressed. There are many other better choices out there for good Greek cuisine. The chicken souvlaki platter was a small portion, and lacking in flavor. The spanakopita was bland and just generally not good. Just simply a disappointment overall.

I have been eating at or taking out from Athens grille for 20 years. Consistently delicious. Best take out in the area. I like the gyros souvlaki and my husband usually gets the chicken souvlaki. Always excellent and perfectly cooked. I try to stay away from dessert but they are right in front and freshly made every day so I do indulge occasionally and they are as good as the food. Dominic, the owner is a pleasure.

If I could rate lower than 1 star I would. A friend brought us Athen’s Grill a few weeks ago and we loved it so I decided to stop in and pick up food tonight. Ugh that was a mistake! After feeling like the chicken texture was funny I cut into a piece and it was pink in the center. I continued to cut and my kabob was raw in the center. Not only is this gross but it’s totally unacceptable. 3 people ate some of the chicken and I am praying no one gets sick. Called the restaurant and drove back 20 minutes. The owner was nice and refunded the kabobs but I wish he could have refunded it over the phone as I paid with a credit card and had to drive back the food they didn’t cook. So we ate undercooked chicken, drove out of our way and now we are hoping we don’t get salmonella. Not happy at all.

This place is within a shopping center, it isn’t very big, so don’t go with a large group. But it is definitely worth a trip if you enjoy big portions of delicious Greek food. The owner is a nice gentlemen, there are definitely regulars and he does remember them. When you come here, you order first, then you can carry it out or take the food to a table and sit. The biggest combination of tables is 4 chairs. This place isn’t super great for a large crowd, but it s great for take out if you need more space. I went with my brother and one of his friends who lives down the street. I got the gyro sandwich, my brother got the gyro platter, and his friend got the chicken orzo. My sandwich was HUGE, where was no way I was going to be able to eat it in mouth bites without a fork. So I just started using a fork to it it all together. I didn’t end up eating any of the pita, and I feel like I should have just gotten a salad, but that might have been a little too much. The lamb was cut in long strips, and tzatziki sauce covered the top of the lamb and lettuce. There was also this vinaigrette on the lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. It was a mouthgasm. The platter has the components of a gyro on a plate, but the pita is cut into quarters and placed on the side. It also comes with french fries too. It is a huge plate. The food here is really good. At the counter where you order, there are desserts in a glass case. They look amazing, I haven’t had the pleasure of trying them but I definitely might the next time.

This is the best Greek Food in Gaithersburg! I have been coming to Athens Grill for years and they are truly the best! I get the same thing all the time, Beef Souvlaki platter, extra salad, no fries(they are delicious, just trying to be good), Yum! All other dishes are just as great, i just love a good Greek salad! Deserts are homemade to perfection, the Baklava is outstanding! Service is great, they are family owned and are just the nicest people! Its addicting, trust me, you will find yourself craving Athens Grill, Love it!

Two and a half stars. I always regret cheating on Plaka Grill. Athens takes oily pita bread to a whole new level: supple and decadent while fresh, stiff and greasy as leftovers. Hummus and chicken avgolemono were just okay. Baklava was a skip for me: the abundance of honey weighed down the flaky pastry layers and there was no structural balance to the crushed pistachio layer. I’ll give them one more chance with chicken livers, and maybe lamb chops or imam.
