I am surprised that the library doesn’t allow community members access to wifi. I am a grad student that relies on libraries to do much of my research and writing. The librarian said I was free to read and write there, but that it was policy to not allow internet access to outsiders. I get it, but it is still disappointing. Grrr.

MIIS LIbrary has a great selection of books and a very good selection of journals. I’m not a fan though. The first time I went there, I was studying for finals. I had my lunch in a paper bag, under the table. The librarian saw it, and scolded me for having food in the library. I explained that I wasn’t eating or drinking anything – that I had it for later. That wasn’t good enough, and merited another scolding. The second time I went there I forgot my library card. I asked if they could look me up in the system, using my student ID or my driver’s license. The librarian didn’t even tell me «yes» or «no.» Her reply was«you can’t come to the library without a library card.» What!!! The third time I went there, I went to check out a book. I had my library card this time(yay!). Unfortunately, it was 15 minutes before they closed. The librarian told me «you need to read the yellow sign near the door.» Sure enough! There was a yellow sign that said«checkout services end 30 minutes before the library closes.» If you go there, be prepared for 1,000,001 rules, and be prepared to be rudely informed what they are!
