A must try! This booth has been at the farmers market for awhile, but I’ve always just passed by it despite the delicious smell. To me, the mini donuts dark appearance alway made me think they were overfried. I decided to give into my curiosity today and I was pleasantly surprised! The donuts had a nice crisp on the outside and the inside was soft and fluffy. I got a large bowl of donuts topped with whipped cream and fresh strawberries for $ 7. It was so good and tasted just like funnel cake in my opinion. Definitely worth a try if your strolling through the farmers market.

Strolling through farmers market a couple months ago, I spotted a new vendor selling miniature donuts. Curious, my friends and I decided to check them out – mainly because we were intrigued by the giant contraption cooking donuts to order. They use one of the Lil’ Orbits machines you can purchase – franchise? – online.(You know, that website that touts they’ve been«turning donuts into dollars for over 35 years!») Basically, the dough goes down a little conveyor belt into, then out of, the fryer, plopping down fresh little miniature donuts. After standing there mesmerized, we finally decided to get an order to find out how the end product tasted. You can order the donuts either glazed or topped with powdered sugar or chocolate. A dozen mini-donuts costs $ 5, with an «extra large» portion for $ 8. We opted for a half and half with plain glazed and powdered sugar. Both were pretty good, actually. The glazed were sweet, but not too sweet. The powdered sugar was applied with reasonable moderation – enough that we didn’t wind up looking like LiLo with sugar all over ourselves. And most importantly, the dough wasn’t overcooked – it was crispy outside, but still light and fluffy inside. On a return visit, we got a small order, split with glazed and chocolate. The glazed were as good as before, but the chocolate were a major letdown. The cheap chocolate sauce drizzled on top didn’t have any flavor. I was ready to make this vendor one of my go-to stops during farmers market – until my friend pointed out how they handled money and donuts with the same gloved hand. Um, doesn’t that defeat the purpose of the gloves? It’s still a new operation, so I figure it was a rookie mistake – let’s hope they’ve fixed that. Lil’ Orbits donuts will no doubt be a welcome addition to the vendors at farmers market for anyone looking for a sugar fix to power through the afternoon. Because let’s face it, who doesn’t like donuts?
