Beautiful wide trail after a steep set of stairs that will get your heart going. Love the whole peaceful wooded ambiance to this set of trails right next to Veterans Memorial Park. 88 acres of goodness.

If you are looking for a place to walk the dog or get some exercise and you want it inside the city but with beautiful views – this is it. The loop from Veteran’s Park campground is about a mile and half, but it is a steep climb. At the top is a pine forest with huckleberry all around and you can actually see both the Pacific and the Monterey Bay from various locations. If you want a slightly longer hike, start at Quarry Trail and you will climb up to Veteran’s Park, from there you can go up Huckleberry Hill. The whole loop takes about an hour at a vigorous pace. Roadside parking at Via Del Pinar(between Via Gayuba and Hermann Dr.) The whole trail is forested and you will have peaks of the ocean at various points.

Great place to do some hiking. the stairs are always fun just watch out for snakes. You can catch some great views up top on a sunny day. You may even see some deer while strolling around. There is plenty of parking at Veterans park which is a big plus. Like most trails in Monterey watch out poison oak! Overall this hike is always great to get away from downtown and take in nature.

The hike is not for the faint of heart! It’s a wee bit steep, but once you are at the top, its hard to believe you’re only a short hike away from the bustle of Monterey. Take some time to explore, the views of the Pacific and the bay are spectacular! On the list of things to watch out for, there is some poison oak along the sides of the trail on the way up.
