Woman are not welcome at the Chart house in Monterey. We sat down and ordered a martini and a glass of wine, the woman hating bartender made my boyfriend a drink and didn’t pour me a glass of wine, I had to ask a second time. Then the woman hating bartender made up lies about me and had me cut off. The manager automatically believed the lying woman hating bartender and admitted I was not intoxicated but still refused to get my side of the story or serve me a glass of wine. I would hate for any other woman to be treated like this, so please don’t take your lady to this woman hating restaurant, there are many other high end restaurants, especially on the pier that will treat your lady with kindness and respect.

My husband and I came to celebrate our 16 yr. anniversary. We arrived to a VIP table, a card signed by the staff and personalized menus. It was an awesome way to start the night. Our server(Kelly) was very nice and wished us a happy anniversary too. She was very attentive and kept the wine glasses full. The food was delicious!!(I had the prime rib and my husband had the filet) After dinner Kelly brought us a dessert that was on the house. We will definitely be back before our next anniversary. Stellar service and delicious food… you can’t go wrong here!

Overall, I enjoyed the Chart House. Unfortunately we were there on a stormy weekend, so we couldn’t enjoy the view as much, but overall the food and service were pretty good. Pros: 1. Good food. I ordered the prime rib and my boyfriend got the coconut shrimp. You really can’t go wrong in Monterey with seafood. 2. Interesting cocktail menu. Some drinks I’d never heard of, or never heard of some of the ingredients, but they were pretty good. I got a pomegranate mojito and the violet touch, which was very interesting. I enjoyed it. My boyfriend got a mango mojito and something else I can’t remember, but he enjoyed it. 3. Great location, with gorgeous views. Unfortunately we were there on a stormy night, so you couldn’t see much, but I’m sure it’s gorgeous when the weather is better. 4. Pretty good service. Our waitress was very nice and had good drink recommendations. Cons: 1. Food was good, but portions were a bit weird. For my prime rib, it was good, but had a lot of fat in it. Only about 6 oz of the 10 oz cut was edible due to the large amounts of fat. But what I had was still good, and with the potatoes it came with I had plenty to eat. My boyfriend’s coconut shrimp was also good, but they filled the plate really full of those thin, airy rice noodles. I think they did that because there was only 6 – 8 shrimps on the plate and a small portion of rice. They just covered the plate with a huge mound of those little noodles so it looks like you’re getting more food than you are. Again, he said it was good, but it was a bit excessive. 2. Drinks were good but weak. I’m not drinking mixed cocktails to get drunk or anything, but after two cocktails I felt absolutely nothing. Again, they were good, but I feel like they were being a bit stingey with the alcohol. 3. We ordered their signature desert, the hot lava cake. Personally, I wasn’t impressed. I mean, it was good, but if anyone has ever had a hot lava cake at Applebee’s, or any other restaurant for that matter, it’s exactly the same. Maybe I was just expecting more because it was a fancy restaurant, but just know there is no difference between the Chart House lava cake and any other lava cake you have ever had. 4. Slow service… Not so much with bringing the food out, but everything after that. Once we got our food, our waitress never came to check on us. We didn’t have any problems, but I think it’s weird that she never came over to ask how our food was. It also took a really long time to get our check, which is always a bit annoying to me. Once the desert plate was cleared, I expect the check to come decently quickly(we weren’t still drinking or anything, we were clearly totally done with our meal). However, it took 15 minutes for our check to come after we were totally done. Again, our waitress was very nice and friendly, but service was a bit slow. Overall, it was a good restaurant that I’d probably go to again. Just be aware that this is not a place you want to go if you want to eat quickly(we were there about 2 hours).

Gosh, I thought I did a review for this place last year with 5 stars. I guess I just wrote in to the Chart House. Not only is the food DELICIOUS, the view is amazing. The staff here is so nice. Robert was our server but Jordan was more than happy to jump in and help while Robert had a large table. They took great care of my husband and I. The manager Jason was also wonderful and made sure to stop by our table to make sure that we enjoyed our meal, which we did. The lobster bisque here is fantastic. I also love the ahi entrée here. Parking is a little difficult but they do have a lot that you can park in and there is metered street parking. Who cares still totally worth it and 5 stars!!!

This review is solely based on customer service and doing the right thing. If rating their food and ambiance, the review would be much higher. Coming during happy hour as a group of 4, the bar area isn’t totally busy. We ordered 5 appetizers and rounds of cocktails. After not being checked on for over twenty minutes, my drink still hadn’t been delivered. Not some fancy, difficult to make martini. We are talking about a glass of wine! After a reminder to our server, my wine was promptly delivered. Happy hour was now technically over by three minutes. We politely said that we had intended on all ordering a final round, however had not been approached for quite a while. Our waitress assured that their manager should oblige. 10 minutes later, their manager Tony came to tell us that they would not be taking care of us in honoring a final round at happy hour prices. I’m not upset that he didn’t use common sense and offer basic hospitality, rather that he was a total jerk about it. We have come to Chart House many times, and have recommended it to others in the past. This experience was appalling for such a nice restaurant! Our small community thrives on taking care of locals as much as we do tourists. Shame on Chart House and their ‘manager’ Tony.

Fabulous! I’ve been here a few times in the past, but we returned to Monterey this weekend for a little getaway and came back here. So yum! We had the rib eye, filet with bernaise, salad bar, a great bottle of Pinot Noir, and strawberry cheese cake. All were fabulous, along with the free bread and amazing, tentative, and patient service. Pro tip? Request a seat by the window and you’ll be dining pretty much directly over the ocean. Thanks for a beautiful, filling night!

Fantastic views! You have to come here while it’s still light out to appreciate them. Get a table by the window and watch the ocean and the sun setting with a glass of wine and some fabulous food. Life is suddenly really really good

This review is regarding the happy hour. The happy hour is a great deal and I would definitely go back for the happy hour. lowlights: — kimchee vegetables were disappointing, a very generous serving but it tasted like a giant plate of tempura fried vegetables — our drinks came out after our food that being said, the food came out very quickly so good job on that mediumlights: — shrimp taco’s and the prime rib sliders were both good not great highlights: — the happy hour value is fantastic, around 50% per item — ahi nachos were delicious and high level — our server, Dorleen, crushed it, we came in just before happy hour ended and she still treated us like royalty. She even went to the manager by herself and asked him to take off the kimchee vegetables off of our bill since we barely ate any of it — ambience was romantic and intimate while the restaurant still felt like it was hopping

A year in Advance I requested to have our wedding reception here. I emailed and called and left continuous messages to the event manger so that we can start making the reservations and arrangements. I even called the restaurant and ask them when is the best time to have a face to face consultation with her & if not to leave her a message to call me back when shes available. After no reply for the next several months I decided to just change the locations because My wedding planner & wedding officiant who are both locals here in Monterrey gave me negative feedback’s about the Chart house… & they mentioned that they also had problems making reservations here before for special occasions. WHICHWASANABSOLUTEEYEOPENERAND A BIGHEADSUPTOCHANGEPLANSRIGHTAWAY ! Not to far from this restaurant was the«Sardine Factory» whom was very happy to help me that same day I called and emailed them. Honestly I’m grateful things happen the way they did we ended up having better food, better service, and overall better experience ! What Really pissed me off about Chart house was that on the ACTUALMORNINGOFMYWEDDINGTHEYFINALLYCALLEDMETOTELLMEHOW I WOULDLIKETHESEATINGAREASETUP !!! Are u kidding me ?! After I Explained to them that I waited basically a year for a reply then they had the nerve to contact me now? The convo wasn’t pretty… I think that was the only time I was A bridezilla throughout the whole wedding planning process lol The only good perk about this place was the location and the ocean view hence the reason for the 1 star, other then that I highly recommend The Sardine factory for a far better dining experience.

Chart House is such a nice little find! Located in Cannery Row and overlooking the water, it’s a pretty romantic setting and a great date spot. The bf and I came here for dinner on New Year’s day during our stay in Monterey, and we had a wonderful experience. Although I was a bit disappointed that the cioppino was sold out for the night, our server was excellent at giving us solid recommendations that were all delicious. We started with the kimchi calamari appetizer. Yes, it sounds strange at first, but it’s actually really amazing. It’s a generous serving of crispy calamari cooked with an assortment of peppers and smothered in a creamy kimchi sauce. For our main entrees, I got the Key West Spiced Sea Bass. The fish was cooked well, and it was served on a bed of mango sticky rice and a pineapple habanero butter sauce. The combination of sweet and tangy was so yummy that I practically licked my plate clean. My boyfriend ordered the prime rib, which was served with a side of mashed potatoes. I personally like my prime rib more on the rare side, but this was a little too red for him. Our waiter graciously sent it back to be cooked more to his liking, and the bf was very grateful. All in all, it was a wonderful way to kick off 2016. Plus, I could never really resist dinner with a view, and the excellent service and delicious seafood were just the cherry on top of a successful date night.

My parents and I came here for lunch on Christmas Day. This was our lunch stop on our way to San Luis Obispo. My mom made reservations beforehand, so we were seated immediately upon arrival. It was really sunny, and the sun was a bit blinding, but the view was beautiful. They’re normally only open for dinner, so they never had issues with not having blinds over the windows to block the sunlight. We had 2 servers because our«supposed» server was on his lunch break. Our first waitress who was filling in for him was very professional and friendly. I could tell right off the bat that this restaurant does not joke around when it comes to service. For our appetizer, we ordered the lobster and shrimp spring rolls. It was«ehhh». I wasn’t expecting them to be fantastic, since I read some reviews on here saying that they aren’t that good. Mom really wanted to try them, regardless, so we got them. I wouldn’t recommend it. I saw some other table with the calamari, which looked delicious. For our entrees, my parents both got fish. My mom got the sea bass(baked), and dad got the mahi mahi(blackened). Both dishes automatically come with rice and veggies, but you can substitute the rice with mashed potatoes. DONOTGETYOURFISH«BAKED». It’s pretty bland, apparently, and it just didn’t look appealing at all. Otherwise, they were ok. From what I remember, they have options of «toppings» to make the fish more flavorful, but they cost extra. The most impressive was the Cioppino, which I ordered. Generous portion, and it had so many different goodies in there! Crab legs, mussels, chunks of fish meat, shrimp… it was so good. My parents both kept mooching off my Cioppino sauce, which they poured over their fish and rice for more flavor. For dessert, we got the infamous chocolate lava cake that everyone is raving about. It’s made to order, so you’ll need to tell your server 30 minutes ahead of time. This was the highlight of our meal. The cake itself is not big, but it’s so rich and decadent. It definitely satisfies a sweet tooth, and that scoop of vanilla ice cream on top that is sprinkled with candied almonds makes it even better. Oh, and the edges of the cake had a sugar crust, which was crunchy and sweet… ahhh it was awesome! Overall, I would recommend their lava cake and Cioppino. If you’re going to get a fish entrée, I would recommend getting it «blackened» or grilled with the lemon butter. This was the most expensive lunch we’ve had in a while. Service was very professional, view was breathtaking, but the food wasn’t totally amazing.

So first place we went to dinner after arriving in Monterrey. The ambiance was awesome and the view was as great as reviewed. However, the food was mediocre at best but the service was awesome. This place is what it is… a decent restaurant with GREAT view. Thus making it great for an intimate date night but if you are looking for food quality, there was other options out there.

I know it is Thanksgiving and patience is a virtue but the wait for the table and the food was very long, Two of our party of four ordered the prime rib and both had to be sent back, cold and under cooked. The waiter Justin was awesome. He made up for a lot of the kitchen mistakes. The food the second time around was awesome. The view that we had from our table was the best.

Our dinner here with the kiddos was fantastic. Yes, dinner here with well behaved kids does work. Lets start with the most important stuff. The cocktail menu. It was great, and very well thought out. We ordered a Side Car and it was made perfectly. I then got the Cucumber Tuaca Lemon Drop. A little fiery a little savory a little sweet. Kind of like my personality. My dinner of choice was the Macadamia Encrusted Mahi Mahi. Wow! So delicious. A large piece of fish with crunchy nuts on top. Like fish with crunchy butter on it. I don’t know how else to describe it. I also had the Lobster Bisque. So rich and creamy. Outstanding. They also have a kids menu. Yay! Five stars right there. The best part of that is they have Coconut Shrimp on the menu. My son only wants to eat Coconut Shrimp at restaurants. He loved it and ate every bite. He also enjoyed my soup. He has great taste for a 4 year old. I cant wait to come back with the family.

Really cool ambiance. This restaurant is a great addition to a scenic place like Monterrey. The restaurant is literally built on top of the water and has an amazing view of the ocean. I was also fortunate enough to see the sunset during dinner. As for the food, I had the seared scallops and they were awesome. The scallops were served on top of a bed of mashed potatoes, wasabi cream sauce and with a side of green beans. well cooked and delish. Overall, a very solid choice to end a day trip in Monterrey.

Several Unilocalers had recommended Chart House to celebrate our anniversary, but I had my heart set on French food at Bistro Moulin, so after dropping our bags at the Clement, we walked to the Chart House to enjoy their happy hour offerings. We sat at the end of the bar, which afforded a great view of the bay and all the sea otters outside. Yay! We got the $ 4 fried artichokes, which were okay. I’m not sure what I was expecting but I think I realized I’m not an artichoke fan via this dish. They were good, but for me, a bit much. We also ordered $ 5 ahi tuna nachos, which were really tasty(and texturally interesting on that wonton, I gotta say). I also rolled the dice and ordered a martini, something I rarely do. For $ 7, I figured, why not? Hubby’s $ 4 beer was GIANT. It really was a great place to enjoy a happy hour snack and to celebrate our anniversary. $ 20 plus tip for yummy snacks and good drinks. I’m not sure that this would have been the most romantic spot to celebrate our anniversary(omg, Bistro Moulin — just get there!), but I could see this being a really fun place to go with a group of friends and hang out, especially for the happy hour deals. Super yum!

This will be one of the few times that I will ask any reader to just look at my pictures. For these are the few times that even my pictures do not properly display the awesomeness that it seeks to capture. FOUR words: Happy Hour; Deliciously CHEAP. You have to understand that my friend didn’t want me to post a review or any of these pictures(not even on Instagram). This was supposedly their secret spot for a long time. However, I don’t think we can really justify being an Elite unless our beans are spilled for the benefit of masses right? So I am sorry dear friend. I need to share and recommend this place to all who have time during their happy hour(which usually runs M-F starting from 1600 hrs to about 1900 hrs). It is a great«sampler» menu that will open your eyes to what their chefs have to offer: creative and DELIGHTFUL without hurting the pocket. I’m going to add a DISCLAIMER though. You probably will be converted shortly after and will most likely come back and break the bank if you have the appetite of an Elite. You will probably eat enough to resent it after(despite being in Utopia during your visit) and notice that you will have to work a little more than extra to make it all back post-binge. I think you will probably resent not making enough to justify your binge and possibly be inspired to work harder the next day. Of course, I’m not sure how anyone else would react but I’m just putting it out there. So *DO* come here. Come during happy hour and at least give it a try. You will most likely be converted and you will also most likely see me sitting by myself or with a friend binging on Ahi Tuna Nachos, sliders, and calamari one plate after the other. 15/13LR
