Great, cheap Cantonese style Chinese food. The dishes are delicious, especially the fried ones. It’s quick, and so cheap, you can order lots of dishes. Taste-wise, it’s good enough to(not the best, but meets the craving).

This place is bomb! The restaurant looks a little older but still clean. Has their own parking space in the back. I only ordered to go and haven’t sat downtown eat before. But didn’t look too busy when I picked up the good for dinner. Get their scrambled eggs with shrimp! Portion is big enough to feed 5 people! Eggs are not over cooked and still a little runny which is what I like. Has good amount of shrimp, pretty big pieces. Smells so good! Garlic string beans. Fried and then stir fried with garlic. Still a little crunchy and lots of flavor! Sweet and sour pork chops. Big pieces of pork chop smothered with sweet and tangy sauce on top. Soft and tender pork meat. Goes good with a side of rice, especially the sauce.

Pretty good Chinese food for the price. The lunch special is pretty good with dishes starting at 5.95 up to 9.95 for some of the more premium stuff. Place is good for a quick casual lunch or early dinner. I can’t say it is the nicest of restaurants(can use a facelift, and the restroom can be nicer) but it is what it is, a place where you can get great Chinese food for a cheap price. We ordered our usual, fried string beans, salt and pepper pork chops, and mapo tofu. They also ordered the fried tilapia and the lobster noodles as well to try. All the food was very savory and delicious. Rice and soup is complimentary. Parking is in the rear with adequate spaces.

«Gotta get that that that boom boom pow» — black eyed peas As king of cheap eats this is one of my favorite spots in all of LA for lunch. The place is a little divey but you cant beat the the price and flavor of the dishes. When you go you gotta get that that … Fried fish **Fried fish(about 80% of the table in the restaurant have the dish) **sauteed green beans — excellent **fried tofu — excellent Come for lunch they have a huge menu all reasonably priced and everything i ate is good

Terrible customer service. Came in today(Sunday 01÷03÷15), it’s completely empty with one table occupied. I come in with a group of 6 adults(including an elder) and wanted a larger table than the minuscule table they offer for parties of 6, only to be turned down. For what reason? I understand it’s typically reserved for parties of 10, but there is no way this place is getting anywhere near capacity. There is one middle-aged, short-haired Asian server, who acts like she is the owner, that turns us down despite our courteous request. Her attitude is spiteful and has no manner whatsoever. We are ordering 6+ dishes and there is no way the small table could accommodate us. Terrible customer service.

I’ve never actually eaten here. I’ve only ordered party trays of Chinese food for my baby shower, wedding, and son’s birthday party. I’ve ordered noodles, rice, vegetarian food, you name it. Price is reasonable and decent portion. I took 1 star off because they open late.

Food is okay. I don’t know what they put on it though but it always leaves me dry mouthed and needing water. Too salty, perhaps? Also, dishes dirty and staff hard to flag down and forgetful. Meh. Skip it.

Lunch specials here are a good deal, as the entrees come with steam rice and a house soup. Food here is generally quite good. Service can be good too. As much as I enjoy the food here, and have dined here a few times with the family, there’s nothing more infuriating than being at a restaurant where the waiter questioned the amount you’re leaving for a tip. Dude, just because I give you $ 45 for a $ 40.71 check doesn’t automatically mean I’m going to stiff you on your gratuity. Let me collect the coin change and drop a few more dollars for you. However, ask me to my face again if I might be mistaken for leaving such a small tip, and you will get no tip.

Lunch special is good here that ranges from $ 6-$ 9 with complimentary daily soup! We ordered steamed tilapia, salty fish with minced pork, fried tofu with black mushroom, stir fried spinach with garlic, squid with spicy salt, and seafood chow mien. My brother is a HUGE fan of salty fish with minced pork and he said that this is the best place he has ever eaten it! It was juicy and flavorful without it being too salty! Everything else was good. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the seafood chow mien. It was full of cornstarch and the noodles were floury and not crunchy at all. Service was good, we went on a weekday during lunch so there were plenty of waiters to attend to us in a timely manner. Overall: For the price it is decent Chinese food. However, I would still choose to go to Tin Tin, which is further east down Garvey because they have better quality food and a larger selection for lunch special.

Wanted to try this place with the restaurant being under new ownership. Walked in and got a huge whiff of wet carpet. I couldn’t take it and walked out. I’m sure the food is great and cheap but I couldn’t take the smell.

This early afternoon my parents and me went here for lunch. We order 5 dishes cause buy 4 get 1 free. One of our dishes is «steam fish». It cost $ 7.99. I thought they would serve us a fresh fish. However, they gave us a dead fish. You can see the pic. And as a result, I only give $ 0.35 tips, our bill is $ 27.65.

I used to visit this place frequently back when I was helping my dad renovating our house, but that was many years ago. I recent came here when it was too crowded at the Mama Lu’s across the street on a Sunday evening. There are a few things that are good here. The prices are low, and the food is decent. The fish here is cheap compared to most other places. The Sweet and Sour Pork was also fairly good. It was not too fatty and did not have large bones like some of the other restaurants. Best of all, nothing was overly salty. The place seems to be severely understaffed and service can be slow. Including the supervisor/manager, there was only a total of 3 people and the cashier trying to provide service to the whole place. One of the problems that I had was that I had to flag down one of the people in order to get a refill on the tea. Otherwise, they would just walk by and ignore it. Although they have a lot of specials printed outside, there are conditions placed on them. If you do not eat $ 40 worth of food, you cannot get any of the promotional discounts. This is not written on any of the signs outside and you must go over $ 40 on other stuff before you can get any of the discounts. If you are trying to get that stuff, you should come with at least a group of 6 or more people.

Great cantonese-style food at a great price. Dine in or take it to go. Either way, this place is great! The girlfriend took me here and I have been coming back with and without her numerous times ever since. Their service from their wait staff isn’t that great but the food and price does more than make up for it. Among my favorite dishes here are their sweet and sour fish fillet, stir-fried string beans, beef chow fun dry, orange chicken, whole steamed tilapia, and pan-fried chow mein noodles. Great food with great prices! Also great to bring your friends along too!

Came in for lunch today. Had a good meal with the same shitty service. Check comes out to $ 32.27… I give them 35 and began to leave. Lady waitress looked at the money and took the check back to my table n told us to add another dollar for tip… Seriously??? You gon haggle your customers for tip… Since when was it mandatory for people to leave you tip?! Your service sucks ass n you expect us to give you at least 10 percent? F THAT. I’m done with this place. Beware people… Their service sucks ass and they make you tip them. It’s hilarious.

Came here for dinner last Saturday. I was pleasantly surprised that they have a dinner special menu with dishes ranging from 6.95 to 9.95. What a deal. This may be one of my go to locations for dinner. Ingredients and flavor and variety are great and service is good.

Good, cheap, Cantonese-style Chinese food. Dine-in or pick up Togo orders before dinner(I believe 5pm) and everything is cheaply priced! There are tons of restaurant that compete for the cheap lunch menus(minus the lobster/crab) in Monterey Park. LYL rates up there with their food, their service and their overall establishment(plenty of parking, takes credit cards, cleanliness). Order different a la carte plates and share your lunch family-style. Invite a big party so you can order more dishes. You can easily feed a family of 10 for about $ 60. That’s a steal!

My family and our family friends went here for a late lunch/early dinner(around 3PM on a Saturday) and our table of 9 people were seated right away. We ordered about 12 dishes and food came out in less than 10 mins! It was amazing how fast they cooked the food. As we kept eating, more and more dishes came out and it seemed never ending. Most of the stuff my party ordered are oily and fried and unhealthy but it was all so yummy! Highlights were the fried fish, the house special shrimp, and the pork chops. The food is cheap and quality is pretty good! This is a great place to take your big family out for lunch/dinner. Ballin on a budget!

In most cases when I come to these Chinese places, it’s with my parents. Most of the time they are creatures of habit… meaning they go to the same places over and over. So when we go, we get the Grade A service most of the time. LYL has been around for quite some time now. Whenever I drive by, I never really cared to go in for a try because the establishment looks old and worn down from the outside. I guess it’s because of all the new restaurants coming in and out around the San Gabriel Valley area, every one of them needs a facelift to attract the customers. My mom heard from her church friends that this place was good and inexpensive. So of course she’ll go from the advice of her peers. LYL is actually a decent place for a filling meal and is cheap. You get complimentary authentic Chinese vegetable soup for with their lunch specials. We ordered our usual Chinese Broccoli, steamed tofu with XO sauce, fish filet cooked with Chinese veggies, and a bitter melon with beef and black bean sauce. Every item ordered was quite tasty and has lots of flavor. Believe it or not, my favorite dish was probably the bitter melon with beef and black bean sauce. I was never a fan of bitter melon because it’s simply too bitter for me to eat. But this dish good. The bitterness was pretty much non-existent. Maybe the black bean sauce camouflaged it? But it was delicious! Most of the dishes cooked was on the heavy side… meaning it’s greasy. I wish all the Chinese places would cook their foods will less oil. Yes, the ladles of oil could be seen at the bottom of every plate. I told my mom that, and she says that’s how they cook everything. It gives it a glistening look, and prevents the ingredients from sticking while it’s «Wok’d»(stir fry). So much for it being healthy! haha. The place needs a major facelift. The red carpet is dirty with foot traffic black imprints everywhere, the walls are not the cleanest, the restrooms are wet, and the outside is simply non-appealing. I don’t know about the kitchen, but I could just imagine from everything else I’ve noticed. So I’ll leave it for the readers to make their own conclusions. All I can say is the food is good, and it’s your choice if you want to come. Overall, I will give this place a weak three stars. The food alone is four stars.

Lunch specials are amazing here! Definitely value for money, but this visit wasn’t as spectacular as I once remembered. All the dishes seemed to taste the SAME!!! I think the cook uses the same flavoring on all the dishes. All the Szechuan chili fish was DISGUSTING. It was just fried fish with this fake sweet and sour sauce. OMG… Panda Express could have done better. Slow table clean ups. Had to wait 20 minutes despite seeing 3 – 4 tables open. They need more people during peak lunch hour.
