We stopped by this little bakery in Monterey Park recently after getting our dumpling fix at Mama Lu’s Dumplings. It was near closing time. So, the bakery seemed out of stock of many items. However, we picked up some butter almond bars, which tasted yummy with milk when we got home. At $ 4.35 for the bag, these bars are not cheap, but I definitely tasted the quality. YUM!

Been coming here for years for cakes and cool birthday cakes … and today’s birthday cake was a let huge down. My son asked if the picture was as small as it was. We answered yes and he said ‘Whew, I thought I had to go get my eyes checked.” Pictures are worth 1000 words. Also note that we left the actual printout with the baker. They just took a picture of my print out and placed it on the cake. Really?! They have just gotten sloppy and lazy. They could have at least centered it. $ 80 for this masterpiece. See my pics.

We ordered Red Velvet Cake last Thursday at around 7:30PM. We waited for more than 30 minutes before someone help us. A lady by the name of Kathy helped us but everytime theres a customer she will leave and will tell us «I will be with you». Then finally when she wrote our order«red velvet cake» she mentioned if we want cream cheese and we said yes but not too much. We picked up the cake today for my nephews birthday but when we cut the cake the filling inside is not cream cheese but coffee cream filling. We were very disappointed because the birthday boy didn’t even touch or eat the cake. We also found out that the cake doesnt taste good. The cake lack sufficient flavor and should have been more moist, not even worth the amount we paid.

I thoroughly enjoyed this shop! Even though there weren’t any areas to eat our pastries, we just ate them in the car, and had a blast! We got the crème brûlée in a jar and I only had one spoonful because my BF ate it all up! :T RUUUUDE! XD! But at least I had my Hello Kitty cupcake which had red velvet with cream cheese filling inside… YUMMYYYYYY! Soooo good! Prices are average here but who cares! It’s good! They’re also next to the Sanrio store which is well stocked with a variety of items!

I feel like Diamond Bakery must get a lot of business from Tokyo Fried Chicken customers. I stopped in while waiting in line for TFC. Everything in the small bakery looks amazing; they have both American and Chinese pastries, including buns with fillings like red bean, taro, and dates. They’ve got egg custard tarts, eclairs, chocolate cake, sweet breads(I even saw brick toast), macarons, cupcakes, etc. I had a difficult time choosing but picked up an individually wrapped red bean bun so that I could eat it the next day as well as an individually sized tiramisu. The tiramisu, while presented elegantly in its own little white cup with a piece of chocolate on top, was disappointing. The cake part lacked sufficient flavor and should have been more moist. As I was thinking that I’ve made better tiramisu, my husband said the same thing. The red bean bun was okay and generously filled with red bean paste, but the pastry was overly dense and I prefer paste with more texture to it. While everything here looks great, I’ve definitely had better pastries at other shops and probably wouldn’t bother coming back here for a $ 3 tiramisu.

Stopped in the other night while waiting to get seated at Tokyo Fried Chicken, there was a young man working who was super friendly and helpful. We had a birthday coming up in the family so we were looking at the cakes and checking out all the options. They had pictures of past cakes they’ve designed and he explained all the options, answering all our questions. He was really nice. The cakes looked delicious and I’m sure we’ll be back here for our cake needs. They’re very creative and can make anything you request. We got some tarts and smaller pastries to take home and enjoy after our diner and boy were they good!

If you can get here early their Dan Tat(Egg Tarts) are the best. The only problem is they only make one batch and once they are gone they are gone. We have tried a few other things from here in the past and have not been impressed. So only come for the egg tarts and if you are not here by 10 – 10:30am they are usually sold out so don’t come if you are late. The parking and prices are better than across the street at Kee Wah. But like I said they are a one trick pony.

Not a fan anymore, they’ve become cheap. Their chocolate cake with strawberries and custard is just as amazing, but I will not patron here anymore because of its poor quality. I ordered a cake and got charged $ 3 for adding various fruits on top of the cake. They asked me if I wanted to leave room for the writing(birthday) and I declined thinking the top would be covered in fruit and asked for a sign instead. My sister went to pick up and when she brought it back for our party, I was upset with the visual display of the cake. The fruit topping that I paid extra money for was small fruit and not covered up at all. Additionally, the happy birthday sign that they give now is cardboard and small, which looked very tiny and cheap on the 8″ cake. I felt very bad giving the birthday folks this cake because it did not look appealing or anything impressive at all.

BESTCHINESEBAKERYINSOCALBYFAR! Best Dan Tat(egg tarts) and Portuguese style Dan Tat! Delicious Cakes, Cookies, and Treats! Friendly Service! Seriously blows the breads/treats/pastries at its competitors(kikis, 85degress) out of the water! If you love sweet/savory, delicious Chinese bakery goods, you owe it to yourself to try this place! NOBOBA! That might be a deal breaker for some people but not me. They don’t typically sell boba at Chinese bakeries anyway, so I don’t mind!

Review totally based off their Hong Kong style pineapple buns. I know THE most snobby pineapple bun eater ever. My brother. We have searched for bakery after bakery in LA for the pineapple buns we grew up eating in Hong Kong, and so far, nobody can do it better than Diamond bakery. Not even Hong Kong café’s pineapple bun is just like Hong Kong’s(Too buttery and too much sugar in the topping). For $ 1.30, you get freshly baked fluffy and lightly sweet bun with the PERFECT topping. It’s crumbly, sweet, and flavorful. One bite transports you back to the streets of Wanchai. If you shell out a few cents more, you can bring home the sweet red bean paste filled pineapple bun. LOVE that Diamond bakery doesn’t go light handed on both the crumbly pineapple bun topping nor the red bean paste filling. Trust us. 18 years living in HK and eating those HK style pineapple buns. At least 15 bakeries tested in LA. Diamond does it best so far. If you know a more authentic bakery, hit me up.

We’ve bought pastries, moon cake, and cake here over the years and it’s not bad for an Asian bakery but doesn’t really stand out in a good or bad way. My friend bought us a small(roughly 6 in) fruit tart from here and it was actually pretty good. It was one of the better fruit tarts I’ve had, especially coming from an Asian bakery. I might try getting a cake from here again. I recommend trying diamond for their fruit tarts. Located on the corner of a small plaza with ample free parking. Service is not bad.

This review is based on a cake I ordered from this place. If I could give it zero or negative stars, I would. PLEASEDONOTORDERYOURWEDDINGCAKEHEREUNLESSYOUHATEALLYOURGUESTSANDYOURSELF!!! It doesn’t matter how much you spend on your wedding and how elegant everything else looks, because a cake from Diamond Bakery will mess all that up. And people will remember it forever. If you order a blush and ivory cake, because that’s your wedding theme, you would think that’s what you’ll get. No, most definitely not. Instead, you get a HIDEOUS bright pink and mellow yellow«cake,» which looks like something designed as a bad joke for a 1 year-old birthday party. And if it was for a one-year old, I’m sure he/she will be crying at their birthday because the REPULSIVE colors were just the beginning of the HORRIFIC design. The«lines» on the cake were anything but straight and the«beads» came in all shapes and sizes. Oh, and apparently I forgot to specify I wanted a round and symmetrical cake, because it was uneven, lopsided, and simply APPALLING. Luckily for me, I had an amazing florist, Diana @ Deefined Floral Designs, who used A LOT of her magic to mask all the flaws with her floral arrangement. Lesson learned, do not try to save money on the wedding cake. Pay the extra hundred or two and get a cake from a real bakery. Or no cake at all. Just don’t come here.

While waiting for Tokyo chicken, decided to stop in here to waste some time. The bread selections we’re limited. Not sure if it was because it was a Saturday evening. I grabbed the hot dog roll, the pineapple bun, the black forest cake, and a fruit tart. To use a card, it’s a 8 dollar min. I was never acknowledged by the staff until I went to the counter to pay. I guess it’s nothing surprising since most Asian places in sgv lack in the customer service dept.

Bought a cake here last minute, fresh fruit cake and everyone said it was«pretty good» Visually the cakes all look delicious and got plenty of «oohs» and«ahhs». There was only one lady at the counter already helping others but quickly got around to me and asked me if I needed help. She was pleasant, not rude at all. Parking is in their shared lot. Would come again if I needed a cake. Round cake was about $ 30.

Monterey Park, CA: Not first time here but first time since becoming a very active Unilocaler. I had forgotten that I had visited this shop a year ago. Customers pick up a plastic tray to place their chosen baked pastries on before seeing the cashier. We were surprised to find their prices slightly better than a similar shop located across the street. The items we purchased were fresh, soft, and flaky. The individually wrapped pastries seemed to keep well. I enjoyed my generously filled, red bean pastry on my flight home. The taro cake was not too sweet and delicious. They also offer cookies, macaroons, whipped cream cakes and individual dessert cakes. Friendly staff. They preceded 85° Bakery. Sadly, there are no drink services, just pastries to go.

I was expecting more from Diamond bakery. They had a small selection and everything was pretty dry. I know most Asian desserts are on the dry side, but there was really nothing out of the box of goodies that I got that I enjoyed enough to have again. Service was fine, the prices are cheap and there is plenty of easy parking out front. Don’t think I would bother to be back though

In the beginning, this review was strictly for wedding cake inquiry and the pricing however, I just recently tried their Crispy Skin with Spongecake, so I’ve decided to do both review at once. Wedding cake inquiry — Although there’s lots of photos of wedding cakes in their booklet, but they all seems really out of date. My girlfriend and I were checking out wedding cakes for her upcoming wedding and they gave us the price of around 430 dollars for about 200 guests. In the beginning, I thought the price was reasonable, but after inquiring at other places, Diamond Bakery was quite expensive. Crispy Skin w/Spongecake(Su Pi Dan Gao) — I usually get them at Cathy Bakery on Las Tunas because their crispy skin spongecake is nice and fluffy. However, I was able to tried some because I found a box just sitting at my house! I don’t really like Diamond Bakery’s version of this. The crispy skin is very thick, not thinly sliced, so when you take your first bite into the cake, it’s not as crunchy. What really disgusted me was the whipped cream that came with it, the whip cream just don’t taste good. Other than that, when I stepped into Diamond Bakery, I expected lots of pastries or hotdog buns or pineapple buns or even their specialty breads but all I see was leftovers and seems like they don’t keep them breads coming out. Compared to other bakeries, they always have their breads out and kept making fresh ones. A total turnoff for me. Parking is plentiful. The staffs were nice, don’t get me wrong. Just the bakery is not really well maintained. They need to step things up!

I grew up eating mooncakes and have never been a huge fan of them because after a few bites they would always taste like too much. Nevertheless, it was the mid-Autumn festival and after a hasty search on chowhound for the best mooncakes in LA, I found myself at Diamond Bakery. I opted for one lotus mooncake with egg yolk and one pineapple mooncake. Pineapple is not very traditional, but I love FengLi Su and hoped the mooncake might taste like one. Both mooncakes were DELICIOUS! I shared them with a friend who was skeptical and insisted on only eating the tiniest slice. She ended up asking for more almost immediately. I can’t figure out why the mooncakes at Diamond Bakery are so good. They’re definitely as dense as your regular mooncakes, but when you eat them they go down so easily. Maybe they’re more moist? Maybe the outer breading is somehow better? Either way, these are by far the best mooncakes I’ve had in my life and will definitely be back the next time I need mooncakes!

Diamond Bakery saved my wedding!!! Less than two months before my wedding, the bakery that we were going to go with lost their lease and therefore any chance of making me my wedding cake. In a panic my wedding planner, husband and I went through a huge lists of possible alternative bakeries. We decided to go with DB because 1) they were available, 2) they said they could replicate the design that I wanted 3) I liked the way their cakes tasted(always super light and fluffy and never too sweet) and 4) their price was ASTRONOMICALLY less than any other place we had seen. I was a little skeptical when we ordered the cake but at that point I was willing to just go with the flow. On the day of our wedding I was pleasantly surprised with the results. While it was not exactly the way I had imagined my wedding cake would look, I could not argue with the price and the fact that we were able to book them on such short notice. And of course the taste was excellent(we went with alternating tiers of coffee and vanilla with strawberries).
