Interstates have a lot of options(usually chains), so you would think that something more original would live up to the buzz. I guess it depends what you are use to. If you come from Atlanta(like me), then you expect quality. This place was terrible! The wait for our meal was nearly 30 minutes, just to receive two sandwiches(one pork; one chicken). The chicken smelled and tasted like it was spoiled. My pork was average — at best! I will not stop in the next time I travel this route.

Whoa! First, this place came highly rated. But from a yankee, and lets be honest. What do they know about barbeque? First clue that you’re going to be disappointed: no smoke smell in the parking lot, and where do you keep the wood stacked? I suspect there is no wood smoke at all. You certainly don’t taste it in the wood. Second clue: the meat is SLICED? Sliced bbq? Ever hear of pulled pork? If its prepared right and tender, it’s a pulled preparation. The sauce was the prevailing flavor in the meat. The meat for sure took a backseat. All the sides seemed to be either from a can, or breaded and frozen way in advance and possibly even microwaved for serving.

Pretty good. Went there during the RAGNAR Run Relay. The sides were fabulous, the pulled pork was nothing great, but the new Brisket was really good. A great smokey taste. For the price, you can’t complain.

Not bad. The newly-offered brisket was thinly sliced and relatively flavorful. The service was somewhat lacking, but not bad. The environment is pretty unique. Check out some of the interesting pictures, news articles, etc. that are posted around.

I had the pulled pork with baked beans and potato salad. The pork was quite good; the beans appeared to be out of a can and the potato salad was lacking in flavor but high in mayo. I would not go there again.

I’ve not had the cue here, but I’ve had their ham and cheese sub(to go) and their cheeseburger(dining in). The ham and cheese was a sloppy mess on a hot dog bun. Terrible. The burger I had while dining at the place was room temp, flavorless, tough. They don’t have fountain drinks here. They said they don’t have room for fountain drinks, which is BS. Just avoid this place. There is no way the cue can be good here when everything else is terrible.

Very disappointing. I have much higher expectations for a BBQ joint in TN and this near to Georgia. The meat came out having been stewed in a little sauce — which tells me that it would not have had much flavor on its own and that gives it a bit of a sliminess that I don’t like. I would not be surprised if it had been microwaved. The bun was buttered and toasted, so I appreciated that. I liked both of the sauces but did not get to add much because of the sauce that was already on there and kindof soaked into the meat. For a side, I inquired about the fried pickles but decided to do something else when I learned that they were not house made. I asked about the slaw and potato salad and was told that the slaw was house made, so I opted for that. I found that I probably would have preferred a pre-made cole slaw(and I am not a big fan of those by any means) because it was sorely lacking in flavor. It was very crunchy with chopped rather than shredded cabbage and the dressing was a bit on the watery side. The biggest disappointment came at dessert: banana pudding. Probably the worst I have ever had. I suspect that it was made to order… which is USUALLY a good thing… but in this case, not so much. The instant vanilla pudding was not fully set… reminded me of what they serve in the hospital; the just-sliced banana was a bit underripe, and the generic vanilla wafers were STILLCRUNCHY. Like, fully crunchy. It’s hard to explain, but the way it was served in a small clamshell styrofoam container; I could tell that it had been assembled in the container rather than having been scooped out of another container. I had high hopes due to the log-cabin exterior and the folksy interior with signs that said things like«top of the mountain to ya!» I hate to give a poor review to a Mom & Pop business; I know this is a low-traffic kind of a location and that sometimes cutting tiny corners can be understandable — but I drove away wishing I had eaten at the Wendy’s in the truck stop next door. Come on, though… this is the South… don’t undertake BBQ& banana puddin’ if you can’t nail them, kk?

My family and I stopped here on the way from Nashville to Chattanooga. Instead of the more touristy restaurants we wanted something a bit more local. The place is fairly new, with a clean dining room. The menu has a variety of BBQ and Southern treats at reasonable prices, and sizes to fit all kinds of eaters. I ordered the BBQ Lite plate, which was a good size portion for lunch. It came with a choice o side items — the list was quite extensive. I had their fresh cut potato chips and baked beans. The pork had a good smoked flavor, was just enough dry to add some of their BBQ sauce to really enjoy the flavor. Two sauces available — original and sweet. Original had a little too much vinegar in it for me, but I enjoyed the sweet. Too bad they did not have a spicy. The homemade chips were simple, but delicious. They use a lemon pepper on them as a finish-it doesn’t mix with ketchup real well, so you may wish to hold that if you plan on using it. The baked beans were excellent with pork and other great seasonings in the mix. The plate also came with Texas toast. On the menu, you could get chicken, ribs, and larger pulled pork with either two or three sides. My wife, a «yankee», had a hamburger. The lettuce and tomato were good quality, and she enjoyed the typical burger. She had onion rings-they were ok. My three year-old daughter had a side of Mac and Cheese and truly enjoyed it, along with some of my baked beans. Kids menu needs to be expanded a bit. There is only one high chair in the whole restaurant, so if you have an infant or toddler, you may wish to bring your own portable one if eating during a busy time. Overall, the specialty food-Southern BBQ and fixings was very good, other items were okay. Service was alright, and the folks were friendly. If you’re in Monteagle, skip the highly advertised Smoke House, and eat here-it is worth the stop.

Located in Monteagle, TN right off the interstate, they offer a clean restaurant and friendly atmosphere. I have frequented the restaurant since 2004 and still consider it to be the best barbecue I’ve had yet. The staff is kind and the prices are great. The smokey flavor is top notch. No need to cover it up with any sauces. Keep it up guys. Ill continue to recommend others to your business.
