Best and most innovative sushi around town, they also have lots of tasty non raw fish options such as duck. I feel they have a modern take on sushi, many other places around town do not have things such as their sashimi appetizer(served on crisp wonton skins and an array of toppings) or such delicious concoctions such as their cooked seabass. They recently renovated it so it has red brick walls and beautiful tile floors. Give this place a try, you won’t regret it. Great for dates or family dinners!

First off, the restaurant isn’t that well decorated and just has plain white walls. I like restaurants to have some style and color to it. There was only one waitress and I saw that she was getting an order from a table there and we just stood there waiting to be seated for 5 minutes, maybe more! So the sushi chef just told us to just grab a seat anywhere. 2 minutes seated already and she was still taking the order from another table. The sushi chef then brought us menus while she was still taking orders. Then she never came by our table until I had to ask that we were ready to take our order after 5 – 10 minutes of not coming to the table. She finally took our order. The food didn’t come out as fast which was surprising considering there were only 3 or 4 other couples. I think she was the one that was cooking everyone’s meals too. I ordered the Neil roll and the Japanese ramen soup! Both very delicious. That’s the only good thing from this restaurant.

Only 3 ½ stars??? This is the sushi place with the coziest, most family like feel to me in this area, and not only is the sushi good, they have some great teas. There are a number of great sushi places in the Montclair/Bloomfield/Nutley area, and this is one of them. If you haven’t been here and are looking to treat yourself to some sushi, this one is well worth a visit. Go and enjoy. :)

This place is absolutely amazing. We Come here at lease three times a month and everything we order is always perfect. No complaints at all. Looks like a family run business and everyone is always so pleasant. Prices are reasonable and this place is just so underrated. Gave up on the competition a long time ago. Nothing compares… it’s a must visit they have sushi and just a little bit of everything. If I could give them more than 5 stars I would.

The food was pretty good. I would’ve rated this place higher if it weren’t for the poor service. The servers were slow with everything. I had to constantly flag them down for water refills because they completely forget about you as a customer. Half the time they were busy playing on their laptops. The food took too long to come out and that along with the poor service it why I’m giving it two stars.

Had a bite here with a group of friends before the B-52s show around the corner. I wasn’t expecting much, but this place turned out to be a real gem. My buddy who’s a regular ordered us a few different types of dumplings. I just stuck with the first one I tried. Holy Moses! It was like eating a slice of pizza from yer favorite pizzeria for the very first time… or losing yer virginity. You know what it is, you’ve seen it before, you’ve tried some from cheap take out spots around the corner, but there ain’t no going back after this dumpling I had here. It was lightly fried with a shrimp and jalapeño filling. The outside was a delicate and crispy envelope holding a delicious invitation to come back for more hot shrimpy pleasure. The jalapeños added the perfect amount of heat without being too overbearing. And then I had the sushi… I tried the spiderman roll and the x-men 2 roll. They must have those Dominican refugees from that one Seinfeld episode rolling the maki. These babies were rolled tight and with the perfect balance of ingredients inside. The only issue I had was with the chopsticks. I tried two or three pairs n they were all bent at the tips. But with those tight rolls it didn’t even matter. I could’ve juggled a few pieces and not spill a grain of rice. Next time yer in the mood for sushi, come here. Exquisite food prepared immaculately.

*seaweed salad(not bad; it’s an average seaweed salad that’s on a bed of mesculen salad; the main highlight was the bowl that it was served in) *edamame(what do you want me to say? It was just lightly salad and served with a lemon wedge; nothing spectacular just edamame but I do have to say that the quality was pretty good and the beans themselves were of a great consistency); *Judge Jerry roll(eel and avocado topped with tuna, yellowtail and peanut sauce; yes!!! omg, I loved this roll! that mixture of the fish and peanut sauce on top was a winner; peanuts gave this roll the crunch that it needed since everything else was so soft; flavors are point so you absolutely do not need to dip this into any soy sauce, if you do you’ll definitely be doing this roll a disservice) *Samba roll(spicy tuna with tempura flakes inside inside out rolled with crispy rice drizzled with spicy samba sauce; OMG!!! this roll was amazing!!! I loved the crispy rice, it was so different than any other roll I’ve had; the sauce was sweet, spicy and salty at the same time; absolutely delicious and I could spoon that sauce onto anything) This small sushi space is a great hidden spot in Montclair. I like the quality of food and flavors are on point. The service is kinda funny with the servers being young college girls in their sweats and casual clothes. The seating is not too tight but not roomy either considering it’s a smaller space. There’s an outdoor patio that is setup when it’s nice out. FYI, it’s street parking like most places in Montclair. There’s a parking garage next to the place, but seriously just park locally. It’s close and worth the short distance walk and you can use that money that you have spent on the garage on the food instead. Would definitely come back.

A very clean place upon entering and the prices are perfect! It was $ 5 for 1 roll of sushi and they give you 8 pieces! Over by me, 1 roll is like almost $ 10 and they only give you 6 pieces. So I was extremely happy with that! The staff is super friendly and greets you at the door. I cannot wait to actually eat here since I ordered for pickup this time around. Also it’s super easy to get to… it’s within walking distance if you are in Montclair.

Spur of the moment encounter. We actually thought they were out of business. We sat at the bar — great ambience and music.(We were the only people there) Ordered a few of the interesting things on the menu. Scallop ceviche — great presentation but they added too much slices jalapeño for color and it made the dish way too hot. Salmon skin salad. I’m still burping it up. Expected the skin to be a tad bit more fresh. It was chewy and well it just lingered in my mouth for what seemed like an eternity. We then has a spicy tuna roll with no rice. It was wrapped in cucumber. Would have been fabulous except it tasted like cream cheese was used in the tuna and as a dressing on top. The best and last thing we had were the Peking duck dumplings. Fried. Quite tasty and came with 3 dipping sauces. Overall I can’t say I’d go back.

Been here a few times and their food is great. Especially love their speciality rolls and their bento box is to die for! Portions are usually better than you would get in most places so I definitely recommend this joint.

Sushi Hana is one of the best sushi restaurants in Montclair! As a vegetarian, I feel like they have tons of options for me. My favorite is the Jodi Roll — vegetable tempura sushi with peanut sauce… SOGOOD! I also like the sweet potato roll and avocado roll. The edamame is always good, too, as is the vegetable tempura. My only issue with Sushi Hana is that no matter how empty the place is, it feels like you’re waiting forever for your food. That being said, they were extremely accomodating when I made a late reservation for a group of 8 people.

By far the best Japanese food in Montclair. The service can be a little slow, only reason I didn’t give it five stars. Although not speedy in delivering food, it is well worth the wait. Sushi is fresh and delicious. Hot dishes are yummy as well. I love coming here.

Excellent shrimp shumai and I’ve become addicted to their weekend sushi and sashimi lunch specials. This has become my favorite North Jersey sushi restaurant and it is comparable to the best sushi restaurants in NYC such as Tomoe Sushi on Thompson Street in the Village. If your issue is service come at off-peak hours and sit at the sushi bar. On top of everything else the prices are very fair.

Best sushi in montclair. Hands down. Only place in town I will eat. Their sweetheart salad is amazing. Samba roll and temptation roll would be the two that I would recommend. The family that owns this restaurant all work there. The sushi chef/owner is always behind the sushi bar. You will never leave unhappy

I really don’t like giving restaurants a negative review, because I am aware of the various challenges that owners face. Having said that, this was the most awful, mediorcre experience imaginable. There were two parties in house when we were seated(and only two parties throughout). It took 15 minutes for them to bring any water; there were 7 of us, and 3 entrees came out… followed by the four remaining about 15 minutes later. The sushi was horrible and mealy, and the waitress never came over during the course of the dinner to ask us if everything was ok. Advice: try Toro in Upper Montclair, it’s very, very good!

Came back here about 2 weeks ago and noticed they’ve renovated the place, looks great. I do have to say I miss the piano and aquarium, but it’s still a nice update. They did take away the enclosed group room they had and opened it up to more tables on a higher level. The exposed brick looks pretty cool too. The sushi, as always, still tastes soo good. It was my first time here for lunch and noticed they have lunch specials. But since they only had one of my rolls on there, I didn’t end up ordering from their lunch specials. The menu looks like it’s changed a bit too. This is always my go to place when I’m in the mood for sushi. Love this place!

Fyi This is my 1st review. I just started adding this place into my local sushi rotation and it is an unique place. I had the dumplings last few times and really good esp when you share a few different ones. The dumplings with soup inside are awesome. Miso soup here is one of my favorites. As for the sushi. Definitely fresh and balanced flavors. Not an expert but i have been eating sushi for many years and definitely a place I can trust. I noted other reviews talk about the slow wait time. Yes a few times it took forever. Only time it got to me was when we had a show to make at the welmont. This only has happened to 2 of my visits. Other times service was fine. Definitely has a slow and home-like vibe. I kind of like it. Relaxing. Overall food is great. Nice environment. Comfortable

I’ve only gotten black tea lychee bubble tea here, and it was disgustingly sweet, like they dumped half a jar of sugar in it… First off, it took them about 15 minutes to make this one drink… Never mind the fact that I came in on a Monday during the early afternoon, and I was the ONLY customer there. The tapioca pearls were made well, and chewy enough. I ended up just eating some of the tapioca pearls and throwing the rest of the drink away.
