Vile. Turkey burger looked like a microwaved piece of play dough that I wouldn’t even want my dog to eat. Boyfriend got a Club sandwich with avocado– also pretty gross but he ate it only because he was starving.

Worst diner I’ve ever been to. The turkey burger was definitely not turkey meat… don’t even want to know. The avocado was likely something out of a bag… honestly it didn’t look or taste anything like avocado. Places like this just bum me out. I mean, I get it… you have a huge inventory and not the highest volume. So most of your offerings are frozen. Fine. But you can go for things above the bottom of the barrel from suppliers. And shrink your menu to a manageable size. This just comes down to laziness and no care for quality of food. Disappointing is an understatement… especially for such a cute town. And your history in the town should be something to live up to, not take for granted and use as an excuse.

Blegh. This place is not worth your money. I’m not one to send food back, but I did here. I thought ordering a simple salad would be a safe bet, but I was wrong. Half of the lettuce was old, wilted, and slimy. I was very turned off even after they made me a new one. My boyfriend’s tuna melt was all wrong and not very good. The only reason I’m not rating this one star is because the waiter was very nice and accommodating. Good service, not so good food.

Food is average but service and feel very good. The owners are gracious and welcoming. Many people are greeted by name. Decent food, reasonably priced, great service, nice town. What a NJ diner should be.

Put it this way, if you’re going to go to one of the diners in Upper Montclair, go to this one. On a quiet weeknight the food was better than expected(warning: obviously still just diner food) and the servers were very nice. Old-school atmosphere to the extreme. Prices are characteristically fair.

Local diner has only one other review?! Kind of nutty. Friendly staff, mediocre food. It was desolate on a Thursday night, but picked up with families and regulars before we left around 8:30pm. I think our waitress was only serving us when we first got in, and I still had to ask again for something I’d initially asked extra for when we placed our order. Had a burger deluxe, pretty standard diner burger except the bottom bun was chilly to the touch, and my dude had eggs and toast. He wanted a Taylor ham, egg and cheese sammie but thought it was stupid that every part of the sandwich was extra, i.e. cheese alone was an extra 75cents, so just the sandwich would have cost more than an egg platter and almost as much as an omelette, which comes with potatoes and toast. Is that normal for diner fare? Sounds a little weird. The rest of our food was cheap though — total under $ 15 for breakfast, a burger and a soda. I’d come back but would probably want to give another restaurant in the area a shot too if I wasn’t craving diner food. PS I think this diner is BYOB?! A family near us had a six pack. BYOB diner never heard of such an awesome thing.

VERY surprised that I’m the first to review this spot! Montclair Diner is an awesome place for a classic breakfast. The owner(smaller, Italian guy) has been one of the best diner owners I’ve encountered — always working and talking with the people, making jokes, telling stories; It’s a rarity nowadays, but adds to the place’s vibe. The prices are great. $ 3.75 for two eggs. The food is fresh, service is quick, and it runs very smoothly.(Sidenote: thr OJ isn’t a hole in the pocket! BIG +). **THEYDONOTTAKEAMEX** Come here if you’re in Montclair for a good start to the day. Published via iPhone
