Wow is the food at Joey Thai amazing! My family & I stopped here because it seemed nice & quiet & cozy. Great small business with mom & pop vibes. The owner/waiter was very sweet & attentive. Despite it being very busy he made the time to chat and joke with us. Did I mention that the food is fantastic? My meal was the Pla Rad Prik & the spices were perfect. We will be customers long-term!

We ordered around 9pm on a Saturday via Grubhub. It didn’t take long for delivery. I ordered the vegetarian spring rolls and the fried rice with mixed vegetables. I was surprised to see no forks, napkins, soy sauce etc. in the bag. Other than that the food was good.

Ordered delivery at 745 on Saturday. Said an hour to deliver. It is 945, still no food, and their phone has been busy for the past 15 minutes. Not cool at all. Food is decent Thai. They need to get their act together with the delivery operation or just stop it altogether as it is clear they aren’t capable of executing the service in an acceptable manner — Or at the very least they should just stop taking delivery orders on the busiest times of the week like any other restaurant with their act together would do if they can’t fulfill their orders in a normal timeframe.

Pretty good. Just three stars cuz I’ve only eaten there once. Got the wok fried rice with seafood. Spicy basil flavor. I asked for medium heat and got medium heat. Just enough bite to feel it in your mouth but after you’ve finished eating it doesn’t linger. It’s March and I was thrilled to find fresh seafood in my rice. I just knew I was gonna get the frozen stuff. My seafood mix included shrimp partially in the shell, calamari, and mussels. Definitely returning to try their Pad Thai. March 2016: My second visit in 4 weeks and food is still good. Had the yellow curry and the spicy basil rice. Both delicious. Takeout. Enough portion for two with the spicy basil rice. For curry rice the curry sauce is enough for two but order extra rice. Rice is only enough for one. Substitute brown rice for an additional charge. Worth it.

I order from here quite frequently and I have to say I never get a bad meal really. The food I get is always delicious. I do enjoy the more simple dishes so maybe that has something to do with some of the previous reviews about the quality and taste of the food. Overall, I like this place a lot more than most in the area, and the staff is always super nice when I’m in there.

I ordered delivery from Joey Thai this afternoon and it was horrible. I wasn’t expecting much when the delivery wreaked of cigarette and weed smoke. The panang curry was watery at best. The som tom smelled like it had gone bad and tasted like fish sauce with a bottle of lemon juice. It was so bad, I had to throw it all away. I have never written a review on Unilocal, but this warranted a horrible review. I gave it 2 stars because at least it was on time. Bottom line: it was disgusting.

kind of on the pricey side when i order for deliver, and for sure impossible for me to order enough for just one person, so for sure order with a friend. but, aside from that, the food here is pretty awesome. i typically get the chicken pad thai or the chicken pad see ew, and im more than satisfied. the portions here make up for the price, because one order of either can easily be 2 meals for me.

I remember when this place has kitchen chairs and tables for guests that ate in! They updated a bit since but the food is still as good. The BEST Thai option on Bloomfield Ave and also the most overlooked. It’s cheaper and better tasting than their competitors across and up the street. Far less ambiance but who cares if the food rocks? We ate in for lunch. The owner was so nice and friendly! He gave us a free side salad and we ended up having a 3 course lunch for only 8 bucks. Please pay them a visit. You won’t be disappointed.

We ordered on GrubHub on Saturday at about 6:00. Delivery said 1 hour. I called them an hour and fifteen minutes later, and my food was still in the restaurant. The person on the phone said it would be quicker for me to drive over and pick up the food myself. He said I would get extra and have the food brought out. So I went over, and waited in the parking lot of the STS for them to bring my food out to me. I had to call them twice and ended up waiting there for 10 minutes. So now it had been an hour and forty minutes since I ordered, I had my food, and I was 15 minutes from home. Awesome. I have to agree with most reviewers here that the food was just a bit bland. The pad thai had no peanuts in it, and the Gai Tra Krai was watery. The Thai spare ribs had a great garlic flavor, but there was hardly any meat on the ribs in the dish. The Hoi Joh was cold by the time I got it, but the sauce was good. The Thai iced tea was the best part of the meal, which is not what you ever want to say at the end of a meal.

These people need to be stopped. They’re very confused on what Thai food is. Legitimately terrible

Too small to feel inviting, so I usually order delivery. I’m happy to have Thai food available as an option in town. I go with the thai fried chicken rice(which is by far the best thing I’ve had from here) and pad thai noodles — oh and the skewers of course. Pretty darn good. I can’t get too emotional about it, but it will do the trick when the time is right. The red curry is my real issue here. I taste the spicy burn, but there’s no flavor whatsoever. The garlic chicken has tons of flavor. The red curry should be creamy and delicious, not bland and hot.

First try at Joey Thai’s 2 years ago was great. Good flavor, very reasonably priced, good portions and nice people. Would occasionally order pick up and was always good and timely. However, the past few times I’ve tried it this past year has been dreadful. Missing ingredients or random other ingredients thrown in, namely in the curries. And it has started aggravating my stomach, which Thai has never done to me anywhere else. I kept hoping they will improve again but after my last stomach upset and a very different mix of ingredients in my curry, I will not be returning. I did hear it is because Joey is not cooking as often. If so, I hope he manages to train his other cooks better to return it to its previous quality! I will add that my friend, who gets noodles more often than curry, did tend to have better luck so maybe this issue more generally applies to curries.

I ordered delivery from here last weekend. –the woman on the phone was very nice when taking our order and that’s the only reason i am giving 2 stars. –she told us it would be 45 minutes. It ended up being an hour probably more. –my boyfriend doesn’t live far it’s a 10⁄15 minute drive we didn’t just go to the location because parking was impossible to find. –my boyfriend called to ask about the order and the guy on the phone was very dismissive –i called again 10⁄15 minutes later the guy again was trying to give a vague dismissive answer i had to keep asking for him to decide to get my info and actually track down my order which showed up 2 minutes after me pressing him about it. — the meal was disappointing to say the least I ordered thd tiger tear which ended up being some wilted lettuce and some peppers with some beef throw is a mess of juice –my boyfriends food looked a bit better because it had noodles. –got dumplings as well which were okay –cherry on top everything was very cool. Not hot or even kind of warm. –and the delivery lady came knocking at close to 11pm because they had written the cc info wrong –i am thankful to the lady who was super nice but i am never bothering with this place delivery or otherwise

I first learned of Joey Thai from a show on The Cooking Channel and since I love Thai food and it’s very close to go and try it out. Boy am I glad I went! Took my folks who never tried Thai food out for a late lunch. We met Joey, the owner and chef, who was the most gracious host. We learned that his mother began teaching him how to cook when he was just 6 years old. Astounding!!! When we mentioned that we heard of the restaurant on TV, he said thank you so much for coming and we made small talk while deciding what to start off with. We went with the Crabmeat Balls which came with a delicious sweet and sour sauce and Thai Spare Ribs with garlic and pepper with a sauce that was excellent but I forgot to ask what was in it. Appetizers were quickly polished off and we were ready for the main course. Since I love Thai food and have had it a lot, I made suggestions for my folks which I think they would enjoy. My mother chose the Pad Singapore Noodle(stir-fried vermicelli rice noodles, jumbo shrimp, egg, mixed vegetables and curry powder) and my father chose the Pad See-ew with chicken(stir-fried flat rice noodles with egg, broccoli and soy sauce). I usually go with a Spicy Basil Fried Rice, a curry dish, or a Pad Thai but I wanted to try something new. Since it’s so hard for me to pick from the menu because I like everything I knew I had to make a choice and ultimately went for the Duck Garlic(sliced boneless crispy duck with onion, garlic and bell peppers). Needless to say, I was pleased with my choice as were my parents. The rich and vibrant flavors in all our dishes were absolutely popping and so tasty. Joey did a great job in making everything. For dessert we went with the Fried Ice Cream(vanilla ice cream inside a tempura shell with chocolate syrup on top) which was delicious and Taro custard(I love Taro bubble tea) which I’ve never had but glad I tried it. The custard was served warm and had a similar consistency to flan and full of the taro flavor. It was a hit with me and we enjoyed both items together. I’m going to bring my friends here and tell everyone I know to come and experience for themselves some of the best Thai cuisine I’ve ever had. I’m glad he sailed across the Hudson to bring us some truly wonderful food. KUDOS!!!

Took my food to go so cannot comment on dining experience. The place is small and a bit hole in the wall-ish but the ambiance wasn’t bad(byob like most places on bloomfield ave) I am not an expert on thai food and have not had thai curries much, but my green curry was good. The beef was slightly overcooked but the flavor and heat were there for a nice kick.

I will say this first: Joey is a 5-star kinda guy, but his restaurant is not. I usually enjoy being surprised by little holes-in-the-wall that have surprisingly beautiful and delicious food — and while Joey cooks some pretty solid Thai food, it’s not really anything to write home about, in my opinion. I ordered the Tom Kha soup and my husband ordered the Tom Yum. This was, quite possibly, my favorite part of the meal. The Tom Kha was the perfect amount of sweet, with its creamy coconut soup stock. Unfortunately, I didn’t have too much time to enjoy it, since Joey quickly brought out our entrees soon after we got our soups. We decided to share the Pad Prik Khing(spicy), since we read on Unilocal that all of the Pad dishes were top notch. We also ordered the Hung Ray Curry. When Joey came with the entrees, we only got one bowl of rice to share between us, which ended up not being enough. Since he was the only person working in the restaurant(I think?), we had a hard time tracking him down when we needed more rice, and ended up just finishing the entrees without it. We also had to ask for chopsticks, and since we couldn’t find Joey, we ended up waiting a little while before we actually got to start on our entrees. The highlight of the meal was definitely when Joey decided to share with us some stories of his childhood in Thailand. He told us about his mother and how she taught him to cook, how he would always make sure to come home with a fish after a day of playing with his friends so he could show her he worked that day, and how when he was 11 years old, he was sent to Bangkok to be a servant for a wealthy family. The food was fresh and spicy(I probably would order medium for the Pad if we ever go back), and the experience was definitely legit, I just wish we got two servings of rice and chopsticks with our two entrees. The man can cook and tell a mean story or two though.
