Amazing authentic Mexican food! This is a not-to-be-missed destination in Montauk for the freshness and convenience. The place is located in the center of town which is great for most who are residing in the splurge of hotels by the ocean. However, this is take-out only. I’m not sure they deliver, I’m guessing not. Also if you are taking your car be prepared to park on the other side of the street in another restaurant’s lot or a few blocks away since parking is slim(on the street).

Great food; take out only. Perfect, inexpensive option after a day at the beach. Steak tacos were really good– the steak was well seasoned and everything in the taco was fresh. Guac and chips for $ 4…eh, I would skip it next time. Guac is watery and some of my chips were stale, but most likely from the humid weather. Even so, I would go for tacos or a platter and get some dessert somewhere else like the bakery down the street(open late!). Great option to take onto the beach and enjoy at night.

First off, it’s a take out spot. There’s limited seating out back in the outdoors so on a seriously hot and humid day, you may just want to do take out. They serve very good basic Mexican fare. Mexico City tacos, burritos, enchiladas and the such. Ordered a grilled beef burrito and it was very good. Equally good was the grilled pork taco. Service is a tad slow but very friendly and prices are much lower than anywhere else in the area.

So delicious!!! We stumbled in here after a few too many glasses of rosè in search of some food and we were so amazed by the quality service and food! We both had a chicken burrito and a side of guac&chips. We are in the back and ate every single bite. Do delicious!!! We will be back!

Ordered take out over the weekend, was pretty good! Got the chicken quesadilla and a burrito/taco combination. Would recommend if you’re in the mood for some Mexican food while out in Montauk. Prices aren’t too bad!

Was looking for a quick bite in Montauk with a friend and stumbled upon this place one block south of the main strip. Great little place. I had a couple of tacos and my friend had a burrito. We got a couple of churros on our way out which were great too! Everything tasted fresh and the woman behind the counter was friendly. There are picnic tables out back in a quiet area. I would definitely come back here any time I’m in Montauk.

On our way sailing, we wanted to pick up some quick bites to take with us on the boat. I came across El Vaquero, and nothing sounded better than burritos on a boat! Food here is very quick and super flavorful! I ordered the shrimp burrito, which was FULL of shrimp, tasty veggies, and a chipotle mayo that had just the right zing to bring it all together. I inhaled that sucker in two-minutes flat… maybe three, after licking my fingers clean. Prices were just right, service was friendly and super fast — it’s only take-out, but if they had a sit-down restaurant you would find me right at the door!

Easter Weekend, end of the off-season, and we were bummed that many of the restaurants that we’d hoped would be open weren’t… Stumbled upon this place and ordered a few of their tacos, which were pretty good. They’d be even better if they were served with a wedge of lime, especially the pork ones. The Wunderkind loved her quesadilla, and the horchata drinks were pretty good, too. Heads-up, it’s only a take out kinda place. Oh, and I think they’re cash only, but I don’t remember…

Off season is a rough time to visit and to find open, let alone decent, places to eat around here. We found el vaquero and thought the owner and restaurant were both very nice! Unfortunately the food(burritos and taco) weren’t made with fresh ingredients and were a bit bland. It worked since we were hungry and didn’t have many options but am hoping the food kicks it up for peak season’ers.

I was surprised to find this place way out in Montauk. I was expecting any Mexican food found this far North and East to be pretty bad. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The food at El Vaquero wasn’t fantastic, but it wasn’t bad either. I had the El Vaquero fries(Crisp french fries topped with chopped carne asada, cheese, guacamole, pico de gallo, and sour cream), this was very good. A nice blend of flavors on top of fries that were pretty tasty. I also had a burrito, this burrito was good, but the flavors in it did not mesh as well as the flavors in the fries. The carnitas in the burrito were pretty bland, could have been better. However, for it’s location, I was pretty satisfied with the food.

Super yummy. Sweet staff. Fair prices. Good portions. They even made something off menu for my vegetarian husband. Although they do have 1 or 2 vegetarian dishes. I got the salad bowl w/chicken. Big and full with fresh food and flavorful chicken in a tortilla bowel. My husband had a veggie burrito. It was huge. And came with some chips. Chips and guac are pass. Guac is kinda bland and runny. But everything else was good. Don’t walk past that fridge with drinks so fast. Stop and get yourself a piece of the most delicious flan. Especially the one with chocolate cake on the bottom. Omg! Yum! It’s take out only FYI.

Ordered the 3 taco combo and it was great. Guy that took out order was very friendly. Food came out fast which was great as we were in a hurry. No indoor seating but I believe there was outdoor seating in the back of the building. Reasonable prices for the food which is rare in some Montauk eateries.

Great, warm hearted, authentic Mexican food. The staff is great and friendly. We went here after realizing La Brisa de Tacombi was horrible. We would come back again. It’s great!

El Vaquero is a great place to grab a quick bite. It’s take out only, reasonably priced, and arguably the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. It’s super authentic and the food is fresh and delicious. The owner who takes the order is very personable and accommodating for people with allergies. If your looking for Mexican food, El Vaquero is a great choice!

If you are a fan of Mexican food and you are in Montauk this is the place to go. We ordered take-out from here and decided to try the Chili Relleno dinner as well as three of their taco’s. Both entrees were served with rice and beans. The refried beans were excellent but the rice was dry and lacking flavor. Just had a fork full to give it a taste because it didn’t look too appealing and it seemed like it wasn’t fresh, day old rice maybe? The chili relleno’s were huge and delicious as were the tacos. We tried a chicken taco, chorizo taco and marinated pork taco. All were excellent. Taco shells were homemade and really good and crunchy. We ordered a side of chips and guacamole and the chips were a bit stale tasting which was disappointing but the guacamole was good. Had a bit of onion and tomato in it which gave it nice flavor. Will definitely come back here again, will just ask them to hold the rice next time. Friendly and quick service. We only waited about 10 minutes for our food.

You know a Mexican restaurant is legit when they sell Mexican candies and treats at the counter. Being from Texas, it’s difficult to find an authentic breakfast burrito on the East Coast, but El Vaquero definitely has it. El Vaquero is a short walk to the beach so you can bring your newfound treasure to the beach. Have them hold the rice and beans, and the chorizo and egg burrito will stack up well against any breakfast burrito from Austin. Add potatoes to it and your stomach will thank you.

Glad to have a casual tex mex takeout place in Montauk near the beach. Tucked back behind the first row of stores in the village and just north of the row of hotels on the beach is El Vaquero in a small two store center. Easy to pass by and not see with all the places you look around at while there… beaches to the south, village to the north etc. lol Nice family running El Vaquero. Good tacos, fish tacos, and somone was ordering a huge chimichanga. looked good. Only tip. corn tortilla’s needed for hard shell tacos. flour is not an option, but have seen that out here a few times… in restaurants as chips. fried flour torillas don’t work… but the rest is good :) And the people nice. so for soft shell and other items all good. saw two locals come in a bit later and one said she takes out at least three times a week there…. they have loyal local fans.
