Stix Ride Shop

Great locally-​owned Rideshop in the heart of old town Monrovia. Stix is the only shop I’ll frequent when looking for a new board or fresh digs. The co-​owner, George, is very friendly and sincere. He always has clothes that are ahead of the curve and keeps his hardgoods stocked deep. Not to mention the great service I’ve seen out of Danny, the helpful rep I met the last two times I was there. He had great tips on my new board setup and even put it together for me while I finished up some facebook scrolling. Thanks dudes!

Great environment, they really take care of you and know what they are talking about I’ve been going to this shop for about two years and they always have good deals. It’s a must go to skate shop

I was shooting in the dark when I called George about buying a very exclusive limited edition backpack that was sold out everywhere else. George didn’t have one himself but knew who might, made a couple calls and got it to me at a cheaper price than anywhere else and then shipped it to me. Not only is George super professional but he went the extra mile to coordinate shipping with me while i was working crazy hours far from home.

This is my review of the customer service I experienced via phone and e-​mail of Stix Ride Shop as I live in New York and I have not been to the physical store.
Through their website, I ordered a Jansport Adobe bookbag at a discounted price. This is the sole reason I chose to order from their site, as even with 2 day priority shipping (total came to about $ 70), it was cheaper than buying it directly from Jansport or Urban Outfitters.
First time I tried to order via the Stix Ride Shop, my order was seemingly declined with a «Gateway Error Message,» but when I checked my online bank statement, the charge went through. When I called the shop to clarify (after first calling my bank), the person who answered the phone basically told me he would have to check int with his manage and/​or tech person and someone would contact me again, or maybe it was just a glitch in the system. Waited to be contacted again, was not.
Since I needed the bag as a present for someone else, I tried to order time and time again on the site, and randomly it went through once — despite the fact that I did not change any of my card billing or shipping information, or any other details. Guess it was just another «glitch in the system.»
Finally got my confirmation order, but up to Monday and even Tuesday, the order was labeled as «processing.» On Monday when I called, someone at the store told me the bag would be going out that day.
When I called on Tuesday after having checked my online account, I called again, and the guy nonchalantly told me the bag was still in the store.
I probably called another 4 – 5 times to ask if my order was IN FACT being processed and WAS going to be shipped that day, before it was actually done — at the very last minute, and after being reassured multiple times that I would get a call or e-​mail back.
LESSON OF THE STORY: CALL A PERSON BACK WHEN YOU SAY YOU WILL. GIVEN THAT I AM THE CUSTOMER (WHO HAS ALREADY PAID), IT’S COURTESY TO CALL ME BACK RATHER THAN HAVE ME HOUND YOU.
pathetic, but maybe that’s the way business is done in California.

Ive been shopping at Stix Ride Shop since it used to be Styx Boardshop on Foothill. Love this place, awesome environment to shop/​just hang in. The owners and employees are always friendly and ready to answer questions. They have a great assortment of good brands with items not usually seen in other stores. When shopping here you can generally assume that the items you get are not going to be in every skate shop in the SGV. Large OBEY, Brixton lines along with a bunch of other brands… Some you may not expect… IE Red Wing Boots.
I came in last week looking for some Red Wing Boots, the boots I wanted were not in stock but George assured me that he was able to special order them. Sure enough a few days later the boots came in and were exactly what I wanted. Stoked he was able to get the boots for me I left a happy shopper.
Ill definitely be heading back to Stix for years to come. //

Stix is awesome, George is the man, he’s one of the owners. He’s there everyday and really loves what he does and appreciates his customers. They have really become a trademark for the city of Monrovia, so much so, that I don’t think anyone has or will ever try to open another skate shop. Their merch is awesome, they carry specific stuff that you won’t find in PAC sun or some corpo shop. Their prices are good too, they basically give you a locals discount every time. Bought my first deck from STYX*** when they first opened on Foothill like 17 years ago, or so. I hope to see them in Monrovia forever.

Customer service was amazing. First time shopping here but won’t be my last.
Ordered a mini board for my son and it didn’t arrive on time. My son needed it for an early morning class and vendor said it was delayed a few days.
George called stores and a few hours later he located one. That was nice enough, but he actually had it picked up (40 miles RT in Friday traffic) and Taco assembled it in the evening. Service like this is unheard of anymore.
It was a small order and could have easily blown it off or tried to charge me extras. Instead, they went the extra 40 miles and made my son’s day!

After cleaning my noisy bearings and finding they were still noisy, and after discovering my daughter’s board was still a lot faster than mine, I decided it was time for some new bearings. When I went online I could not believe that Stix had Bones Reds for $ 15, the same price as Amazon. I prefer to shop local IF the prices are reasonable, so when they’re not only reasonable but comparable? Hook me up!
Sunday arvo I found the doors open but the store devoid of customers. Of course the only people up at the crack of noon are poseurs, Dads trying to recapture their lost youth at the cost of some skin, and Chris, the dude chilling behind the counter.
Chris greeted me with a smile, and didn’t lose it when I said I needed new trucks… um…I mean… bearings! Yeah, bearings! I flipped over my board. And some new wheels, I added, after seeing just how pitted the old ones were.
No wonder I’d been going nowhere fast.
One set of Bones Reds and one set of Stix & Bones shop wheels, coming right up.
Chris seated the new bearings in the new wheels then installed them for me. Sure, it was only a few minutes work, nothing I couldn’t have done myself, and maybe par for the course at all decent skate shop. But I still think it’s AWESOME customer service to get your new wheels «professionally installed while you wait» at no additional charge. Chris gave my new wheels a test spin and they spun, and kept spinning, and kept spinning, and now it’s Monday and I’m pretty sure they’re still spinning.
I went for a ride when I got home and yep, I definitely needed new bearings and wheels. Next up, a new deck… and maybe some new trucks ;)

I worked with Bill, one of the owners, many years ago. Cool guy. I like the store, too. Good selection, had some great Obey window displays before. Check em out!

This place is cool, but it has one major flaw. They employ some guy called «taco» who is completely rude. I’ve been in there twice and both times he’s been rude and obnoxious. I asked him about a fixie they had in the display window, and it was like I was bothering him or getting in the way of something. Correct me if I’m wrong, but shouldn’t employees or any other person involved in retail services be friendly and helpful? Not rude and obnoxious?
Maybe I wasn’t «hipster» enough for him, and it wasn’t like I was rude to him, he came out of the gate with his attitude and it put me off from wanting to spend my hard earned money there, so I went to the mall instead. At least the employees at zumies and boarders don’t cop gross attitudes like «taco» does. Either they get on him about his attitude or fire him. His attitude hurts that place.

I can’t believe that this place doesn’t have any reviews yet! This place kicks ass.
It’s always stocked with dope clothes and shoes that you can’t find at chain stores. And the owner George is super chill.
