after this revisit-another one bites the dust. as i said to hubby the chips and salsa were the best thing we ate. i got the vegetarian plate with bean burrito, cheese enchilada and rice(asked for the change of red rice for white listed). burrito had a sauce/gravy that just seemed like the salsa(uncooked), enchilada had more of a mole but the cinnamon was too pronounced so didn’t like that. hubby got the spinach enchiladas which were just cheese enchiladas with cooked spinach on top. he got refried beans that were bland and a «salad”-lettuce with a slice of tomato. i see no reason to try them again. probably deserved one star.

Okay… so this place had a little set back last year. Their problem was corrected and so we decided to give them another chance. We are glad that we did. We ate here on a Sunday night and it was busy. No unexpected added ingredients… The food was great. The service was flawless. The cost very reasonable. My husband had three beef tacos on crunchy corn tortillas and I had pork carnitas with rice and beans and a mojito. We will be back!

Love the margaritas the are expensive. But they are strong. Love the hospitality. The food is good… with or without roaches. The chicken tamales are amazing. but can be hit or miss. with the cornmeal to meat ratio. I suggest you live and browse the back of the menu. I’m not a huge fan of rice and beans… but theirs are good. The 2 for 25 $ is a steal. The tortilla soup enchilada plate and fried ice cream were my choice, date got the same but picked the burrito plate for the entrée… wow. Definitely met the price and quality point. Huge portions. The salsa is solid. They keep the chips flowing. My staple is the sizzling fajita plate… the shrimp, chicken. steak…all top notch. The sausage zarape was pure oil coated everything, not my fave. Too greasy. The guacamole is made fresh to order at the table. Super clean and pleasant ambiance. I’m a date night regular here.

Great Food. Better than anything I have had in Mexican town in Detroit(with the exception of Evie’s tamales).

This was my second lunch visit. You can’t beat the value of their lunch specials! They are $ 4.99. They offer 5 – 6 different specials till 2pm at lunch. I had the Taco Salad with beef(it is also offered with chicken) and it was delicious. A couple of my dining companions had the chicken version and they were very pleased and said it was good with plenty of chicken. They also offer ‘$ 2.99 margaritas. I had one on the rocks and it was an average margarita, really nothing special. We also ordered the fresh made guacamole for $ 5.99. That was OUTSTANDING! Fresh(made to order), very tasty, and plenty for folks to share. Everyone at my table enjoyed the guacamole. We plan on returning soon for another group lunch.

As soon as we walked in the door we noticed a server making Guacamole fresh and after trying it we found it to be some of the best Guac. we ever had. We heard that some said they allegedly found roaches in the food. We don’t know if that is true or not or if someone is pulling paybacks. We thought we would see for ourselves. The place was packed. We paid particular attention to sanitary practices. Bathroom was clean, wastebaskets empty, paper products and soap well stocked. We also noted an employee wiping down used menus with disinfectant… EVERY page. It smelled and looked clean. My wife had the chicken enchilada and she said it was very good. I had Sizzling Fajitas featuring Shrimp and Scallop. I asked for this mix because it was not on the menu and they happily obliged. It was very good. My best is still the Grasshopper in Adrian though, but these were great and Adrian does not have Scallop Fajitas. The Margaritas… we found to be average. The pitcher special was well priced and I will say that the alcohol content was as good as when not on special. I will TRASH a place that I catch making margaritas weaker when on sale, like I’m stupid or something. Well, this place does not do that. While the taste was not my favorite in the Margarita world, the Alcohol IS in there! Props to them for that! SERVICE: They were hopping. They were busy and moved faster to keep up. No one had to wait too long for anything. Impressed with speed and effort. The Chips came out in a BIG bowl too, not some little sissy saucer like other places and the salsa was well flavored. Overall. good experience and we did not see any bugs anywhere… lol. We’ve had better Mexican but this Mexican Food was worth our money.

Good margaritas, but when ppl are finding roaches in their food, you have to just go elsewhere. Period. Even if the newspaper says they ‘have corrected the minor roach problem’…gross.

I’ve only eaten here once and the food was mediocre at best. The reason for the 1 star though is the fact that 2 ppl I know personally have found roaches in their food. These 2 instances were about 2 hrs apart, so this is an ongoing problem. Absolutely disgusting.

Not impressed. Very bland for Mexican food. Not the best service. The only reason I give 2 stars instead of 1 is their queso is okay. You really do get a lot of food, «a lot of really bad food!!!» I’d take Taco Bell over this place any day!

El Vaquero is my favorite Mexican restaurant! Their guacamole, salsa, and cheese dip are always delicious! I recommend getting vegetarian #69 with cheese sauce instead of red sauce on it. It’s amazing! My entire family orders the same thing now because it’s so good. Service is always good at this location. They have a wide assortment of margaritas that are very good!

Really good Mexican food! The queso is amazing and they give you enough food for the price. The service is either on or off and some don’t speak English very well. But it’s worth it. Haha. One of the best in monroe.

It’s ok. We have been there a few times. The servings are plentiful and the chips and salsa are good. The food is just ok. The service has always been good and fast. This place would be way better if the quality of the main courses was improved.

While I maybe picky about my food/beverages and service… The waitress was very pleasant and helpful:-). The guacamole was not as I expected, a little bland. The enchiladas made up for it. The salsa was fabulous. When I asked for special made margarita… it was less than expected. Unfortunately for them, I know my alcohol very well. My adult beverage was more than disappointing. So if you want a great meal, this is a great stop. If you enjoy a little tequila will your meal, you maybe disappointed. Hopefully it was just the tender of the evening, and not the liquor that was the issue.

Seriously some of the best Mexican food I’ve had. SO good. Burritos are my life. Only place outside of Pilsen in Chicago I can say that about so far.

Awesome mexican food. Shrimp fajitas are the best and portions are big. Chips and salsa fresh.

The chips are almost always warm, and the salsa is delicious. The food is always to order and usually pretty good. They have a nice patio outside for the warmer weather. If you like mexican food with a large menu and good drinks, this place is very reliable.

Stopped here on our road trip to Pittsburgh. I was craving Mexican because I had just spent a month in South Korea and couldn’t handle anymore rice or BBQ pork :-). I got a chicken and bean burrito — the plate was scorching hot — but my food cold. The cheese was barely melted and the sauce too watery.

Authentic food only if you think Chi-Chi’s was authentic… LOL It appears they are more concerned with attracting the sports bar crowd. Great location, comfortable surroundings, but a food fail.

3.5 Respectable Stars This is the only place to get any decent Mexican-American food around SE Michigan that I have seen so far. I like Sabor Latino, but that’s not strictly Mexican. Also, Los amigos is just plain awful except for their chips and salsa. The food here seems fresh and the atmosphere is ok enough, booths are large and comfortable. Portions are large, but I don’t ever judge something as ‘good’ by how large a portion is. It’s a clean operation with good parking and easy enough to get to. Have a try, you won’t be disappointed.

We had a wonderful lunch at Vaquero’s today, probably the best guacamole I’ve ever had. It was a very fresh bright green with lots of onion and cilantro. The fajita del mar was also excellent, with perfectly grilled scallops, shrimp, tomatoes, peppers and onions. It came with an option of refried or pinto beans, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes and onions and spanish rice. To top it off, we had fried ice cream with chocolate sauce served in a tortilla shell and crowned with lots of whipped cream! Service was quick and attentive, while we were there someone was softly playing guitar. You can eat inside or opt for patio seating, which offers a fine view of Meijer’s. The location makes it perfect for weekend errands.
