Holiday Inn Express & Suites Monroe

Very clean and new hotel. The staff who made the reservation and checked us in was very pleasant and professional.
Nice hotel and I will stay here again

I’ve stayed at many Holiday Inn Express hotels, but none was as classy as this. I felt as if I was staying at a posh establishment in Los Angeles somewhere instead of in a small town in North Carolina. The housekeeping staff does a superb job there with keeping the place spotless. Also, the room had smart design touches like a hideaway mini refrigerator in the TV stand and wall mounted reading lights for each bed. There was also a small refreshment area equipped with a nice model microwave, coffee machine, tea, coffee and condiments.
The omission of a safety bar in the shower was the only thing I found to be of concern. The complimentary breakfast biscuits were a bit hard and overdone, but nothing major. The other available items were okay.
All in all, my stay there felt like a vacation in and of itself, particularly since it is located near lots of food options and shopping. Golden Corral and CVS Pharmacy is in walking distance!

Welp — one year later and I still like the hotel but it has a couple of issues.
1) The breakfast is crap. Holiday Inns in general are all going to the same (bad) breakfast spread so I don’t fault this one location for the selections … but at 7:55AM they were OUT OF EVERYTHING. Very poorly maintained or replenished. After I had eaten my cold sausage biscuit they put out some «fresh» cinnamon rolls. Except they were hardly warm (let alone hot). I suggest hitting the Chic fil A across the street!
2) The shower had very obvious hairs on the wall — right at eye level.
Overall I was ready to give this place high marks again but the issues above were disappointing and definitely left me reconsidering if I’ll come back.
