Glenro Spirit Shoppe

I am done with Glenro in Monroe. There is far too many good beer stores around to want to deal with the self important manager. Owner seems like a decent guy but I refuse to go back while the manager is still there. I may still go to the Shelton store as long as I don’t see him there. I was a big time customer there too, and often spread the word about the store. Oh well, I am sure they won’t care about me not going there anymore.

Great wine selection. If they don’t have it they will order it for you. Great family owned feel and very knowledgable. I am always very pleased to come here. My favorite wine: blueberry port from duckwalk vineyard

I was home for Easter this past weekend and stopped at Glenro because they have a great selection of boxed wines. I used my credit card and realized a couple days after the purchase I was mistakenly overcharged. I called and spoke to Larry, the owner, who was so pleasant and helpful. He assured me he would look into it and call me back– which he did within an hour. What great service! Everything was resolved almost immediately.
Every person that works here is extremely friendly and will go out of their way to make suggestions and help you find whatever it is you are looking for. Don’t be fooled by the outside– this place is HUGE! It will definitely be the only place I shop when I am back home. Thank you, Glenro and Larry!

Glenro is one of the better liquor stores in the area. They have the best sections of beers, and, an outstanding selection of wines. The staff is very courteous, willing to help, and are very knowledgable. The price points are very good, and, at times, they offer a try and buy on selected liquors and wines. This is my favorite place to go for wines, since they carry a great selection from local vendors, US, and international products. If you find something you want to try, and, if it’s not in stock, they will go out of their way to get it for you. Great place, highly recommended.

This is the dustiest store I have ever been in, the kids running the store are idiots and Larry the owner has major anger issues. The Beer guy, Jeff, thinks he is a bouncer or something. Aren’t these the same guys who tried to profit from the Sandy Hook tragedy, remember?

Glenro has the BEST selection of wine Monroe has to offer. I don’t know the new owner but I understand Roy is still there … ask for him… he has expanded knowledge about wine and has never steered us wrong.

I’ve been going there for years and love the place, which I why I travelled about 45 minutes out of my way to make a special purchase there yesterday. I had the displeasure of meeting who I’ve come to understand is the new owner (short, chubby guy in late 40’s). I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone so openly hostile and rude to a customer. It started immediately when I was asking him some questions about a brand of unaged whiskey. Right off the bat he was really rude and short with me, I couldn’t understand why, and then it got worse when I told him what I wanted to do with it. I’ve purchased some oak barrels to do some home barrel aging as a fun little project. Apparently he found this super offensive and became extremely condescending telling me it might be the dumbest thing he’d ever heard of and he didn’t know what the hell I thought I was doing and said «why not just buy some Maker’s Mark?» I asked him «haven’t you ever make a model car or airplane?» («yes») «Well, why didn’t you just buy the toy?» To which he responded «well, I guess what PT Barnum said about people was right.» I let him know I was all set and walked out. Funny thing is, I needed eight bottles, and at 25.00 each he could have made a pretty nice sale.

Hands down best beer selection in all of southwestern CT. Guys are friendly and helpful. The place is small and messy, but what’s not to like about that? It’s all about the beer, but there’s also a great wine selection. Love this place.
