Great buffet option. Service can be better since I always feel they are under staffed and we need to wait forever. We had an event here once and their banquet service is exceptional. Although I must add that they need to rethink and cater to small group events as well as not all can have and afford 100+ people at every occasion.

Discovered this restaurant through some friends. I’m not a huge fan of Indian food, but this buffet was very satisfying. It is probably not the most authentic Indian food out there, but we had a great time and good food. The service was very good as well. Great for families.

Amazing shrimp, chicken, goat and even lamb chops. Fresh meats and produce delivered daily and prepared on demand. Not only do they offer a buffet but it is very affordable with 20+ items, with free naan upon request. Highly recommend for a dinner for two or even a large private party !

We went for the Father’s Day buffet. Such a good deal!!! They were slow to seat us and get our naan but I love this buffet. The vegetable korma especially. I ate mostly that actually! Also loved the strawberry ice cream like dessert and they had these sweet syrup dough balls. Great meal especially for the price!

The worst Indian restaurants in NJ or probably I’ve ever been. Very bad food. Anyone around in the area wanting to eat Indian food must visit Spice Rack or Udipi.

Food: good food with lots of variety in buffet but only few dishes tasted good. Starters good, main course not satisfactory, dessert very good. Food was medium spicy Ambience: traditional décor, dim lit Service: fast, bread was being served at the table Location: very good right on route 1 Wait time: plenty of seating Parking: ample parking space on weekend

Most DEFINITELY one of, if not THE best Indian restaurant in NJ! Overall an amazing dinner! To start off with, there was a delectable selection of exotically flavored shooters and cocktails. The papadam brought out to us was wonderfully fresh and didn’t taste like it was fried hours before. Our appetizers were PERFECT! Although chicken bihari s and fried momo are standard fare in many Indian Restaurants, they were executed PERFECTLY here. Many Indian restaurants fall prey to not cleaning and changing out the oil in their deep fryers often enough, which leads to a very oily taste in the fried foods. Not the case here! And the pastry of the momos was SO fresh and delicate and tasty. Same for the Pakoras, they were delicious, crispy, delicate and delightful! The restaurant itself, while it does not look like much from the outside(but what does around here) is beautifully decorated from the inside, with Indian wall hangings, a nice layout with bar and separate rooms, well organised restaurant areas The entrees continued the culinary excellence that was our dining experience: goat bathed in a mildly sweet and creamy coconut and tamarind curry sauce, paneer that wasn’t too dry or too mushy in a delightful creamy curry, and okra sauteed with peppers and onions. Served with beautiful fluffy and crispy edged garlic naan. there is no words to discribe briyani. Desserts were standard Indian fare, gulab jamun and Kheer, but beautifully served fresh Service was TOPNOTCH!!! Always there when u needed them without being overbearing. And EXTREMELY friendly. manager RANA and other gentleman from hyderabad. and all otherstaffs were outstanding 5 star class service… I will go here AGAIN and AGAIN!!!

As a Business owner, I take pride in delivering the best possible product to my customers, whatever it may be. And just because of that, I felt compelled to write this review… If I could rate my experience tonight at Chutney Mary as MINUS5 star, I would. If you are trying to decide between places to go, and this place is an option, please take it out of your options. It’s got great ambiance(will give credit when it’s due) but NOTHING more than that. It was my mothers 52nd birthday and we decided(I wish we hadn’t) to go here for dinner as it is fairly close to our house. It was a Saturday night and we got there about 8:45. Around 9:30 after having the appetizers — which were OKAY at best — the server came up to us and told us that we should get food soon as they are going to clear out the food by 10:15. We got up mid-conversation and went to get food. I put some idli in my plate, got some Sambar, got some rice, some dal makhani(MYFAVORITE), some paneer and brought it back to the table. My parents and sister probably got the same. Once back at the table, I asked for some Garlic Naan(my favorite as well) but they said it would be $ 3 extra. Don’t go to Indian buffets often but when I have, they have been more than delighted to provide most different type of naans at no extra cost. But hey, if that’s the policy, that’s completely fine with me. FOODREVIEW: I tried breaking my idli into pieces but it was SO rigid and so hard that I couldn’t. I then mixed my daal makhani(which was mostly water, barely any of the lentils) with the rice and I could barely chew the rice as they were extremely hard. I took a bite of my paneer and I felt as if I was trying to chew cardboard with garlic on it. At this time, I tried gauging how the rest of my family was feeling about the food and I could clearly see the anger in my dads eyes.(FYI — you don’t want an Indian dad mad) The rest of the night went downhill once my dad got mad at how HORRIBLE the food was… Please do yourself a favor and travel a bit further if you have to and not to ruin your night. I wish I could take this night back and have gone to a different place for my moms birthday night but this place legit ruined the night for us. And for the fact that it ruined our beautiful night, and because I feel so strongly about how BAD the food was tonight, I felt as if I needed to write this review and let everyone know. Worst buffet dinner I have ever been to. Be your own judge.

The restaurant has nice bar and very nice ambience. But taste of food is worst. I went to their buffet on Thursday and got excited by large variety of choices. But when I start eating food I found it very poor quality and least tasty. I would not recommend their food. But if anyone wants nice ambience and a place to pass time and have some drinks then it is place to go.

The gravy came out before the bread, and once we finally got the bread to eat the food was already cold. When we tried to tell the waiter he laughed at us. I would definitely not come back again, there are a lot better restaurants in the area and I would suggest going to those rather than wasting your time and money on this place. My family consists of very experienced diners. We have eaten at multiple lower and higher end Indian restaurants. This place has to be the absolute worst. We can accept that the food was not tasting the best today but the service was absolutely discussing. How dare you lough at a concerned customer. The food… was so bad I do not wish to discuss my experience. Cold, late, disappointing.

I have been here a few times for the dinner buffet, mostly because of the location convenience. After visiting them a couple of times, I realized that the options for the buffet are very limited and repetitive. Upon repeat visits I felt that some of the food items in the buffet were not tasting fresh — seemed like the food was reheated several times? Some items tasted Ok and there was nothing exquisite about their chutney’s. The staff is laid back and take too much time to serve. And this is so very typical of sub-continental eating joints. Last time I visited them for buffet, I had not finished my dinner and when I got up to help myself with the main course, I saw that they had wound up the buffet without mentioning a word to me. Every time I have visited this place in the evening, not more than 3 or 4 tables are busy and they have a daily dinner and lunch buffet. During a recent visit a month ago, with friends and family, we chose to go a-la-carte and the manager seemed to repeat that food will be «freshly» prepared! Aaahaa! After the buffet experience, I am not willing to experiment with this place anymore. Drive a little north and there are many more Indian food options, minus the«dinner buffet» places…

This is my first time here for lunch and the food is very good. The staff here are very nice and welcoming. I love their bread which goes well with their stew. I’ll look forward to coming here again soon!

If you have never tried their buffet or have not tried recently you are in for a surprise. I have been to Chutney Mary multiple times over past few years. But, I was really amazed by how they have changed their buffet offering. They had so many dishes on buffet(20+) that I could not even try them all. All the dishes(I am vegetarian) that I tried were good including 4 desserts. Our server Rana was extremely friendly and attentive. He made sure to bring Hot Naan/Roti on the table and also asked if we needed more. We had a weekday lunch buffet last week. You can not ask anything more for $ 10/-. Give them a try and you will be happy that you did…

My family and I came here to celebrate my little cousin’s first birthday party. We had about a group of 60 people and were in the banquet hall. The hall was decorated very nicely, and looked classy. As soon as you walk in, there is a big statue of Ganesh, which was very nice. The food however was not so great. They make a variety of dishes from pani puri, to idli and dosas, and the obvious punjabi dishes. For a restaurant that has great variety, it really does not excel in any food from any region. All of the food is pretty bland. I had the paneer tika masala, which was loaded with paneer but had very little taste in the curry. I also had the Gobi Manchurian, which actually was pretty good. The rice and dal were mediocre, and the Naan was too crispy at some parts and too chewy at others.

I went here on a trip to New York with a group of 7. We went here with a recommendation by a friend and were glad we tried it out. The ambiance was good. Service was okay and they were hurrying us because we reached half an hour before closing. But nevertheless, food was really good. We had ordered chicken tikka makhani, chicken kadhai, lamb korma, shahi paneer masala, garlic naan and egg fried rice. I fell in love with the egg fried rice(similar to Indian chinese egg fried rice). The tikka masala tasted good but felt like it had more color than required, kadhai was also made well. All of us enjoyed the food. We also ordered sweet and mango lassi. I liked the mango lassi, but others in the group didn’t like both. Overall, good food and I would like to go back again.

My fiancé’s friend has his Indian wedding here. The food is good, the ambiance(especially for the reception) was pretty good. The service people were decent. The location is pretty much in the middle of no where, so there isn’t much to do in the area. Overall, not too bad.
