Nearly everything on the menu looked really good and I had a hard time deciding between the sandwiches or tacos. Ultimately, I went with the Parkway Dip($ 10), a sandwich with smoked pulled beef tri tip, onions, and cheddar horseradish crème on a challah bun. It also came with housemade chips. I also couldn’t resist getting an order of Angry Tots($ 5), which are tater tots seasoned in a secret spice and covered with huancaina and anticucho sauces. The sandwich was like an upscale French Dip. The tri tip was wonderfully tender and juicy, making the sandwich get better as it sat because the juices from the meat were soaking into the challah bread. To go along with the meat, the onions were sauteed in a Parkway Porter beer and had a sweet, smokey flavor that was excellent on the sandwich. And if there’s better bread to use for a sandwich than challah bread, I haven’t found it yet. The Angry Tots certainly had some heat. I was impressed with the actual tater tots, regardless of the seasoning and sauce. The tots were light, crispy, and not overly greasy, which makes a big difference compared to tater tots from a place like Sonic. The huancaina and anticucho sauces offer a nice blend of spice and creaminess and it’s certainly an interesting take on typical tots. If you can’t tell, everything at Bruno’s is a step up from typical street food fare. For Bruno’s, it’s not about simply serving food out of a truck. It’s about serving food that tastes great that just happens to be in a truck.

I sometimes plan what I’m going to do that day based off where the gastro truck is going to be parked for lunch. That should say something. They have some of the best food ever! Gotta try«curry on my tater son» if they got it or «not your momma’s brussel sprouts».

This past weekend at the wine fest was made better by the folks from Bruno’s Gastrotruck. The folks there were very nice and I thought they worked as fast as they could considering all of us wino’s needing some serious grub! What we ate: Royale with Cheese — kobe burger, braised pork belly, farm egg, cheddar bacon jam(we needed more of that!), tomato, arugula, pickled onions, sriracha mayo; all on a challah bun. This also came with chips — they were nice and crispy, but needed some salt. Holy Smokes Taco — smoked tri tip, chiles, cheddar, pico de gallo, pickled onions, cabbage, huacaina, anticucho. All of that was served inside a naan-like tortilla with a side of chips. Angry tots — tots covered with Bruno’s secret spices, anticucho and huacaina sauce It was all so good and we devoured all of it! We weren’t necessarily interested in pairing all the food with an appropriate wine, so we went with Williamsburg’s Governor’s White. Good food, good wine, great event(I know, that’s a different review altogether, but I digress). We should have had a Unilocal Booth there. Maybe next year?

Just had their food over the weekend and it was excellent. I am a regular at the landing and was very pleased at how fresh the food was and tasty as well. Excellent overall. People need to realize this is a mobile food truck, which usually means greasy fast food. But this one is not that, while they are limited by what they can make and serve as long as you’re flexible the food is fantastic. Me and my friends loved it and look forward to eating there again.

We do not know what’s going wrong with the food on the truck. For the last few weeks it has been worse each time. We eat at the Parkway Brewery(awesome beer and atmosphere) at least once a week. Tonight was the last time we eat from the truck. The menu has deteriorated, in terms of sophistication and variety. The construction and quality has declined significantly. From no duck fat fries to three julienne strips of carrot referred to as slaw and now tortilla chip instead of hand made chips as advertised. Tonight we had the fish and the pork belly both extremely disappointing, not what we had enjoyed a few weeks ago. We loved this truck, this is very sad. We will take a picnic to the brewery, their beer is still worth the drive.
