Mojave! Mo’ Fun! That should be their unofficial tag line. This high desert is a sanctuary all it’s own. While others fly through traveling to Vegas or other destinations, us desert lovers stop and admire the scenery. In fact, I often make the Mojave a destination. Have you ever seen the sun rise in the desert? It’s magnificent. Simply something everyone should add to their bucket list. Along with the fabulous night sky, an overnight stay here is a must. The Mojave is huge. Close to 48,000 square miles huge. With something like 2000 species of plants calling this home, this desert is anything but desolate. Places like Red Rock Canyon are incredible and picturesque. The hundreds of old homesteads and ghost towns make the desert an interesting place to explore. There’s always something to find out here, often making you feel like a lone explorer. You don’t have the love the desert life to love to Mojave. Spend 24 hours here with no expectations and I guarantee a growing appreciation will begin to bloom.

This is some of the most fascinating landscape that you may miss if you’re sleeping on the ride to Vegas or any significant area of southeastern & central California, Nevada, Arizona or Utah. The heat can be brutal depending on what time you’re traveling so make sure you have a working A/C and plenty of fluids. It’s one of the few places where you can photograph Joshua trees and coming from a place(Florida) that’s totally opposite of desert, I can really appreciate the arid environment that the Mojave offers. It is thought to be a very spiritual place. If you pass by some random signs to obscure landmarks while driving, dare to be adventurous and stop a while. Perhaps you’ll be able to capture a tumble weed as large as your car or desolate communities long forgotten. Just make sure you have enough fuel in the tank as gas stations may be few and far between.

You might think I am crazy to drive around with you Maybe you think I am Unilocaling to have something to do but I think that your speeding and inside I know its true You might think its boring or maybe its a long drive you might think I am crazy but Im tagging along with you Talk about a dark desert highway in the middle of nowhere. But its a passerway to enter Kern County or Bakersfield and a few other destinations. We have driven this road many many times, and every time we take it, someone we know breaks down. So be sure to keep coolant in your car, so you wont over heat. A jack, a spare tire, power tools and some mechanics in your group. Thats how we roll. But, if your not a car enthusiasts. Then be sure to have the basics… Coolant, a working cell phone and a AAA membership. But beware cell coverage is very limited here. Whatcha get while driving thru a whole lot of cool scenery, energy efficemt mechanisms, old train tracks, tumbleweeds, ect to look at. But most importantly there is a McDs, Carl’s Jr, a diner or two a few gas stations, a Stater Brothers and a couple of hotels. Thats it! You could drive right on thru without stopping and you would not of lost a few minutes of life. But then again, stopping can save your life. I wouldnt wanna run outta gas here. Just be careful and drive safe!!! And remember… water, food, AAA membership with 100 mile tow and warm clothes. It can get cold, but then again it can get hot. review #464
