It was time to immerse ourselves in some local culture and The Chartreuse Muse seemed to fit the bill nicely. Very modern in its styling; the paintings, drawings, pottery and other items seemed to fit in well. Much enjoyment befell me when looking at the local artists’ works in that many of them focused on places I know well in and around Modesto. For instance there is a 76 Gas Station out in the middle of nowhere nearly at the end of the dusty Highway 132 trail meeting up with Interstate 580. The artist captured the loneliness and beauty which surrounds the station. I also loved the pottery which I actually could see in my small apartment and they had some great price points too! This in all was a local artist smörgåsbord to buy or you could even get your creative juices flowing by taking a class in the back which is hidden well! I definitely am going to come back and do some damage to my pocketbook because it’s only right to support the local artist community!

I’m giving this gallery 5 stars because of their classes for youth. My daughter has taken two long-term classes here: a Fantasy/Storybook-themed art class, and a Creative Clay class. Both were fun & well worth it. Their new location on 10th Street has an excellent workshop behind the gallery. The gallery itself shows some interesting work from time to time… mostly sculpture and clay works… I haven’t been crazy about the work hanging on the walls(that I’ve seen in the past few years) but I haven’t been there consistently to see all the shows.
