the purpose of this street is to make east-west travel across modesto more efficient. making it 6 lanes is good. making the speed limit 50mph is good. having minimal intersections is good. however, all this investment doesn’t have the desired impact because the lights aren’t timed. drivers speed up to 50−60mph between each light and then have to brake as the next light turns red. this is frustrating and contributes to air pollution. the city of modesto can look to many examples for guidance such as Herndon and Jensen Aves in Fresno and any expressway in San Jose.
