Location is incorrect. Interstate 40 at hwy 601 exit 170. Not hwy 64. Place is new. At a new TA truck stop. Service was great. As well as the food.

Popeye’s spicy chicken is one of my guilty pleasures. After a hard morning of golf, I decided to stop by this Popeyes in a service station. I was pleasantly surprised at the décor and atmosphere, as this gas station Popeye’s was nicer than almost every other Popeye’s I’d ever been in. Look, I know why people would look down on a place like this. It’s fast food chicken. But sometimes you just need some greasy delicious chicken and some sides. While this place is a little on the pricey side for fast food, Popeye’s will absolutely assuage your longing for greasy delicious chicken. This particular Popeye’s is one of the better ones.

It’s pricey but service here is very friendly. The rice & beans were more beans than rice(which I didn’t expect; I thought it would be more rice) and everything is a bit spicy so if you’re not into spicy food you may not like this. Food was okay though heavy on my stomach. For NC, it wasn’t too bad and if you don’t want to full on eat some of the greasier cuisine there you might want to go here by way of easing gradually into that.

I am originally from Louisiana, just 30 minutes south of New Orleans. I grew up eating Popeyes chicken(which is a New Orleans staple) and let me tell you, the location in Mocksville is TERRIBLE. For one, their menu is very limited. Doesn’t have half of the items that the Popeyes locations in Louisiana does. Secondly, it’s overpriced for the amount of food you get. I was so super excited when I found out a taste of home was opening near me, and then extremely disappointed and saddened after eating there not long after they opened. I guess I’ll never find true Cajun cookin unless I’m back home. I’ll just stick to Bojangles in North Carolina and Popeyes in Louisiana.

Popeyes is basically Bojangles without breakfast. Everyone in the Carolinas knows about Bojangles, but Popeyes is a newcomer here. That said, Popeyes is not new They have been around since 1972, and I would guess that Bojangles’ menu is at least inspired by Popeyes. The spicy chicken at Popeyes tastes just like Bojangles. The chicken and sides are very similar to Bojangles. Below are my comparisons. 1) Chicken — Slight edge to Bojangles. Not on taste but due to the size of the breast meat. 2) Sides — Wash. Both are good. Note, I would stay away form the cajun rice at Popeyes. It is rather tasteless. 3) Biscuits — Wash. I doubt you could tell the difference in a blind taste test 4) Sweet tea– Popeyes. It must be the cane sugar they use because it is damn good. 5) Breakfast — Bojangles. Popeyes doesn’t serve breakfast Regarding this specific Popeyes. 1) It is right off the I40 at the main Mocksville exit(Yadkinville Road) 2) It is inside the Horn’s gas station. 3) I don’t believe there is a drive thru. 4) It can be a pain in the ass to turn left(to get back on the Interstate) out of the parking lot. Lots of traffic on Yadkinville road.
