After reading a number of favorable reviews, I figured this place was worth a shot. Like many of the other Unilocalers have stated, the staff is extremely friendly. Our waiter was very attentive and one of the chefs came to check on us to make sure that everything we ordered was to our liking. There was a variety of happy hour options, but unfortunately we didn’t take advantage of them. The wine list was pretty decent and I was happy with the Malbec that I ordered(disclaimer: I’m not a wine expert by any means). For appetizer, we had the duck empanadas, and while they are more like duck spring rolls, they were quite good. As for dinner, we ordered the balsamic salmon and the rotisserie chicken with jalapeño jelly glaze. Both came out quickly and did not disappoint. Portions are decent, even for a pig like me. The overall atmosphere is nice. I suppose for the Mobile area, it is a bit contemporary and quite comfortable. I was happy with visit and most likely will be back to explore more options.

I normally get a great overall experience when I come into this restaurant but lately the service isn’t up to par like it used to. The food still amazing even though they’ve changed the menu. If you do go, their corn grits is the best side dish! You must try their Thai ribs and rotisserie chicken as well.

Road tripping on the way back home from Nashville. We needed a good place to eat dinner that wasn’t to far from the interstate(5 mins from interstate) Zea has a very modern contemporary feels to it. Really nice bar once we walked in. Host was pleasant while seating us to our booth. This would be a nice place to take a date. We have been to a Zea before so we were really here for there best side dish ever and that would be the corn Grits! Corn grits is a must! Even two orders of it would be good! I had the rotisserie chicken which was perfectly cooked! Super tender and super juicy! Mouth watering! The pineapple jalapeño glaze with some of it on the side complemented the chicken very well because it was sweet, tangy, and a little bit of spice! Can’t go wrong with this dish! Zea is a spot that you can’t go wrong with if your looking to get a little meaty lol

I have always liked this place. It has great food, good atmosphere, and good portions for the price you pay. The corn grits are a staple here. However, it seems every time we done here after awhile, the menu has changed. There used to be a sampler plate that was a great option for a little bit of every thing, but it’s no longer offered. Just an observation, but the food is still as good as ever.

Really good. I’ve not experience another Zea location, but this one appears to operate as though it were its own entity. The food options are great, interesting, and still classic for the everyday restaurant goer. Servers there have always been exceptional. The only reason it gets four stars is basically because, well, it’s still not the best I’ve had in this category. Unilocal’s fifth star prompts the quote«Woohoo, as good as it gets!» For a mid-level, upscale place, there are better restaurants out there. «As good as it gets» may be a bit of a stretch, but this is definitely a great place to go for any adult occasion. For Mobile, I’d say this place is definitely at the top half of my list.

Zea is a really nice restaurant with a wide variety of foods. They specialize in rotisserie, with a different course each day of the week. They also have a wide array of apps from wings to hummus plate to crab cakes. All excellent. I usually get one of two dishes for my main when I eat at Zea. My favorite was the bronzed salmon which I ordered with a salsa verde that was remarkable… tart and tangy it was perfect with the sweet salmon. About a year ago they changed their sauces and as my luck would have it, no more salsa verde. They have a passable pineapple jalapeño sauce, sweet with some nice heat, but it’s not the same. Now I frequently get the red beans and rice finished plate. It’s an island of rice in a lake of red beans with two pieces of crispy friend boneless chicken breast. Filling and delicious! It can’t be good for me, the chicken glistens with oily goodness, but I keep going back for it. The restaurant itself has a large dining area and make tables in addition to a couple rows of booths. The tables by the front windows and in a small side room off the bar can be pulled together to accommodate large groups. I’ve been here with coworkers for dinners or lunches with 10 — 14 people with no problem at all, never feel cramped. Wait staff and bartenders are all friendly and personable. When I come alone I often eat in a booth in the bar area, and overhear bartenders dispensing a lot of knowledge about the menu and offering recommendations to patrons. They really know their stuff… every recommendation I’ve overheard has turned out to be spot on when I tried it on my next visit. Sweet potato bread pudding, key lime pie, cheesecake… perfect ways to end a meal here. Access from Airport Blvd can be difficult when travelling westbound, very difficult left turn across three lanes of Airport Blvd traffic… so I recommend turning onto University and using the back entrance through the shopping center parking lot, or continuing past Zea’s and hitting the left at the light into the shopping center behind Zea.

I really do love this place! On all three of my visits here, the food has been great and the service had been equally awesome! I appreciate the variety of fusion-fare and my husband appreciates the beer selection. The shrimp & grits were to die for, in my humble opinion, and the prime rib special, although not exactly what we were expecting, was good as well. The crab cakes and spinach salad make an awesome light lunch duo. Service = awesome!

Husband and I went in 2 weeks ago for lunch. We had recently been cleaning at my moms and found a $ 50 gift card that had never been used. We figured we’d give it a shot since it had been almost a year since we’d been back. We ordered our usual appetizers we had all the time when we frequented more often, Asian almond shrimp and duck empanadas. The shrimp came out missing one of the sauces and we had to ask for it to be brought out. Not a huge deal, mistakes happen. We order our entrees, the honey island chicken sandwich, and the dinner pesto trout. When our meals finally came out we were missing half of the Pesto trout portion. The first fillet was dry and missing half of the pesto it was supposed to be covered(how I’ve had it every other time). By the time the second fillet came out, we didn’t even want it due to the lack of flavor and quality of it. We boxed it and took it home. When it came time to pay, we explained to our server about the gift card. We knew it was old and had probably decreased in value(the fine print on the back Said the value would start to decrease $ 1 a year for every year the card wasn’t used). So after waiting 10 minutes our server came back and said his managers were working on finding out what they were going to do about the card because they couldn’t find a balance on it. That’s fine we waited. Never saw a manager, never had anyone beside our server try to explain what was going on. After 35 minutes I guess the managers just decided they didn’t want any part of it and sent out the server to tell us they weren’t honoring the gift card. I understand where they can’t magically come up with an amount if they can’t find it, but I found it very rude and dismissive for the managers not to try and come explain why they weren’t going to honor it. They kept the card and holder it came in. We emailed corporate and ever heard anything back from them. Their customer service was really disappointing and not reassuring they had their customers best interest at heart.(Something we really enjoyed about the establishment!) The decline in the food wouldn’t have been as noticeable if they had tried making up for it in some form or fashion. Last time we’ll spend our money there.(Spent $ 72!) I’ll travel to a Louisiana location before dining here again. (Side note, our server Scott was awesome in trying to accommodate the mess when nobody else would!)

This place was recommended by a person from Evident here in Mobile where I was doing some training for work. I am so glad she did! Excellent spicy shrimp for appetizer, corn bisque soup & ribeye served with corn grits was to die for! The bread pudding was amazing end to a super meal. The service(Tracy) was amazing treated me very well. Would return in a heartbeat!

Hubby and I had a Sunday evening meal at the Mobile location. I was surprised at how quiet the restaurant was with no wait. We were seated in a nice booth and had the section to ourselves! We started with the spinach dip appetizer followed by the sirloin entrée. Everything was great. Good service, nice atmosphere. I would go back there again.

We love this place, early 2014 they started slacking on service, cleanliness and other aspects but they have recently cleaned up the place and revamped the menu and employees and is a place I would recommend to everyone! The best things to me is the twice cooked crispy duck, roasted corn grits, zea potatoes and corn bisque soup! The garlic herb chicken is really good too! The list goes on lets just say everything I’ve tried I liked.

Crowd pleasing menu. Convenient location. Portions are generous. Pretty good service and consistent food. It’s one of the better dining options among the chain restaurants, especially when there is a picky eater in the group.

I went to Zea’s this past Thursday for dinner the quality of the food was not up to the standard I had in the past. I had roasted chicken with roasted potatoes and asparagus. The asparagus was the only fresh thing on the plate. We ordered dessert the sweet potatoes bread pudding was cold in the center. That lets you know it was not prepared that day and heated in a microwave. It will be a minute before I return

Had a business lunch here today. The luncheon menu choices were varied and not the standard fare. Choices like trout, grits, edamame, etc. were available. Food was very good, cooked near perfectly and fresh. A great place to go when you want something different than standard fare, without too much risk. A bit pricey, but consistent with the varied menu choices. I will return here when I’m in the area.

Everything was fantastic. Service was fast and attentive and the food was wonderful. We will definitely come again. I wouldn’t suggest this place if you like the normal basics like cheese sticks or chicken fingers. The flavor pallet is a little more refined here. We had fried goat cheese for our appetizer. For my entrée I had duck empanadas from the small plates menu and my husband had the roasted garlic and herb chicken with grilled cabbage and corn grits. We finished it off with a nice piece of praline cheese cake, which was big enough to share. This place is a great date night dinner place and their lunch menu looked great, but a little pricier than an everyday lunch.

Love the Thai ribs and corn grits… best desserts too. Ask for Brooke. super server. Back AGAIN on 12÷15÷11. Brooke no longer is there BUT Neal is great! Ask for him. This time I posted many of the pics from our lunch. I tried their lunch size chicken and it was still too much for me but oh so good. The large cheese cakes slices are great for sharing. Always enjoy a meal here.
