The people at Newks are extremely nice and the place is clean as a pin. Also, if you want overrated and overpriced food, this is the place to go. Their menu(if you can call it that) is very misleading. If you’re not careful you will end up with a scoop of mediocre chicken salad atop a VERY mediocre green salad. After I spent $ 12 on what they call a lunch i had to go somewhere else to get some real food. Will definitely not return to Newks.

When you go to a place you like, and the service and food has gone to Hell. It is really disappointing.

My second visit to a Newk’s this year. Today I went with the BBQ Chicken Pizza, side note, apparently my BBQ Chicken went blackened in the oven so an extra 5 minute wait netted our whole party desert… think«Peanut Butter Crispy». The BBQ Chicken Pizza was wonderful, tasty chicken &BBQ sauce covering a thin crust. From now on it’s pizza before sandwich when it comes to Newk’s.

One of my favorite drop in lunch places! My favorite is their Newk’s Q sandwich– love their white BBQ sauce! Also love their crab bisque, lobster bisque and they have an amazing Caesar salad.

Not great but was pretty quick and something at the very least to get me to our next stop on a very long road trip. The reviewer who said there was no issue with military discount was wrong: we were told matter of factly that there is no military discount and it was delivered with a snotty look. Not sure what that was about, but it was not satisfactory customer service. My husband and I also had to repeat our orders ¾ times. I don’t think we were the only ones with this issue as we sat next to a family that didn’t get what they asked for. Ours came out as requested but definitely not according to our expectations. I’m not a fan of order at the counter and seat yourself while waiting for your order, places. It always feels uncomfortable and confusing: is the food ordered to go or is this a sit down restaurant? My husbands grilled vegetable sandwich with goat cheese and pesto tasted ok and was the best item ordered. He also got a bowl of lobster bisque soup that he was not pleased with, which really goes to show that everyone indeed has such extremely different palates at times(another reviewer boasted that this soup was better than in Maine etc)…it not. I had a bowl of cheddar broccoli soup. Mine came in a giant serving bowl and was far too big of a portion. It didn’t taste awful, in fact it was quite reminiscent of Campbell’s canned cheddar broccoli soup, which I can get for much cheaper elsewhere. I had a side of «fresh» fruit that wasn’t fresh at all and left aside after a couple bites. Also it was less than toddler portion. The brewed ice tea is over brewed and obvious by the bitter film that coats your mouth with the first sip. The inside is not comfortable and not very clean although they would like you to believe it is by washing the tables with bleach while you are eating. Definitely not a chemical I want around me while trying to eat. Over all I wouldn’t recommend this place or return. 2 stars for actually serving food.

Good pizza. I’ve never had a problem with the military discount or free coupons here. The inside is very nice and I would recommend this place to others.

For a soup and sandwich type place, it doesn’t get any better than Newk’s. A little background on it, Newk’s was started in Oxford by the same man who started McAlister’s. He’s improved upon the soup/sandwich restaurant greatly. I’ve tried a few of the pizzas at other locations and they were good. I always see my friends order these huge bowls of rabbit food, so I had to try them. The shrimp and avocado salad and the steak and blue cheese are my absolute favorites. They use fresh, quality ingredients and they aren’t stingy with them. Until I became hooked on their salads, I normally ordered the pesto chicken sandwich, which comes with pesto, goat cheese and roasted peppers. I’ve tried a few other sandwiches, and no complaints there either. Their chicken salad and pimento cheese are, without a doubt, the best chicken salad and pimento cheese I’ve ever had. They have different soups on different days. For my soup, I always try to go on a day when I can order the lobster crab bisque. The crawfish bisque, tomato basil soup and loaded potato soup are also great, but the lobster bisque is better than what I had in Maine. It’s that good! They sell the soups, chicken salad and pimento cheese to go in little pre-made containers. Now for the desserts — Oh Em Gee!!! They’re much better than you’ll get at any bakery! Newk’s strawberry cake is my favorite cake in the whole wide world. They have other flavors that are great, but I can’t remember off hand what those are because they’re all outshined by the strawberry. It’s better than mine, and my recipe uses fresh strawberries and no Jello. I’m pretty sure that’s the case with theirs. You can order cakes by the slice or the whole cake. If you’re not in the mood for cake, they have rice krispy treats and delicious rich brownies. I also love their little table with the complimentary shredded parmesan, bread sticks, croutons, and bread and butter pickles. I could eat a gallon of those pickles. The prices are reasonable for what you get, and the service is always super friendly. I wish they would open up one of these on the Eastern Shore. Until then, it’s worth driving across the bay.

This is a decent place to go if you are just looking for a light lunch. Sandwiches are small. You can get soups or salads that are ok. Like I said if you are hungry keep driving. Go down the street to firehouse. The sandwiches are bigger and better.

Rude about Military Discount… In Mobile a Military Town Seriously… It was a Saturday night at 6pm and there was two people eating. We left and went over to Logans and it was Awesome. Military Discount was offered without even asking. Its the principle of the discount I give my normal 20% tip plus the discount. Mobile has so many places that love military So I avoid visiting a place that is rude and snotty about military so enough said.

They ran out of plastic dishes for the entre size of Pimento Mac and Cheese with Bacon… so guess what… they delivered a small side dish size to the table. I had paid about 8 dollars for this and asked the waiter… was this a mistake. …His answer was that they had run out of dishes… but if I wanted he could get me a second one. The dish itself is Kraft Mac and cheese with bacon bits on it… this is unusual for Mobile that really has excellent restaurants and a wide variety of choices… I suspect that if this continues we will soon see the closing of this restaurant. In the interim… save your money and avoid… also when asked to produce a manager… none was available…

the food is delicious, great portions for your money… the staff NOTSOMUCH. I hate to say it but they are jusp plain rude, could seriously care less about anyone they are serving but I guess thats what we get from a min-wage employee. Give it a try tho you will return because the food is that good and you do not have to spend too much time w the employee which in my mind is a good thing. I had the chicken salad sandwich, homemade, fresh, just plain delicious would have given 5 stars if the staff was halfway helpful or friendly

When I come back home to Mobile from living outside the city, it always amazes me how hard it is to find a simple basic lunch salad entrée. Newk’s makes huge ones that are great. It’s nothing to write home about if you live in another place, but, in Mobile, it works!

Found this place with Foursquare, ordered a roastbeef sandwich with fruit and a Pellegrino water. Service was bare bones, i was given a 6 ounce water cup for my Pellegrino, not cool! I opened my tablet, found«newk-mobile» and it was password protected, I asked what the access was and was told only the manager had access. So not user friendly. The food itself was temperature appropriate.

I wish we had a Newk’s in Houston. It is a similar concept to Café Express — order at the counter style, restaurant quality food. They offer both beer and wine, which is also a nice option. They also have an area that has«help yourself» side items like sweet pickles, roasted garlic, croutons, thin bread sticks, ect. My meal consisted of a Grilled Steak Sandwich and Caesar Salad. Both offerings were very good. The sandwich was a thin sliced steak, topped with caramelized onions and a horseradish sauce. With those components, how can you really go wrong? My only complaint was that the steak was a little overcooked for my taste, but still very good. The side Caesar salad was very large. Just a note, they are heavy handed on the dressing — which I like, but if it is not your preference, you may want to order it on the side. The do have a rotating soup schedule. I was lucky enough to try my girlfriends Lobster Crab Bisque. The soup was savory and paired well with the sweet Lobster and Crab. Prices are about what you would expect for this type of dining — around $ 8 for a sandwich and chips or fruit salad or one of their other selections.

Great spot to grab a sandwich, salad, or soup. Soup menu not the same everyday, but I’m sure they have a soup of your liking that day. Everyone seems to love the loaded potato soup. I know it’s my favorite. The sandwiches are okay(nothing to boast about). The pepperoni pizza is a good choice also. Newk’s have nice variety to salads to choose from. They are of pretty nice size, so I’m never able to finish them. Plenty of seating available and is a nice spot for groups

Good place to grab lunch. Quick, friendly service. I can’t talk about the other items on the menu because I am fully committed to The Royal(formerly The Wreck). A great sandwich. Place they make there own pickles! You can’t beat that. Great place to try out. It easily can become one of your regular stops for Lunch.

Newk’s is a good soup/sandwich/salad type of place for a quick but tasty lunch. I love those crunchy little breadsticks! However, as a salad person(always minding those extra carbs and calories!!) I have to stress, «Make sure to get the dressing on the side!». The literally smother it! Every once-upon-a-time piece of crispy lettuce is now crippled into a floppy mess from the weight of all of that salad dressing. To the people at Newk’s, ease up on that roumelade salad dressing. The shrimp salad has alot of potential, but it’s hard to tell when you get a bowl full of dressing with some veggies and shrimp buried in there somewhere.
